Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN ** The truck Chevrolet should have built.

I took some better daylight pictures when we moved outside to work. I'm trying to do all my sanding outside the paint booth to cut down on trash in the paint. I am also rushing to beat the pollen tsunami that is going to hit any day now.

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN ** The truck Chevrolet should have built.

I sanded down all the insides of the hood, fenders, and doors, readying for edging them in tonight. I was about to go ahead and paint it all, but then I realized I would be done for the day and it is only 4 o'clock. Can't waste precious time like that!!! - so I started the final blocking on those parts. I have sprayed them all with a polyester high build primer that is so thick it is almost like spray-able bondo. It sands really well and with a long block like this pictured is the key to getting ultra flat panels. Ultra flat panels allow for ultra flat paint which is the path towards a mirror finish. Here I am trying to get out all the orange peel texture and find any blem/chips. Last pic - I found one. Add more primer and block this spot again.

That paint looks like it would taste good. Have you tried licking it Drew?

I got some glass media I may try. I can let you know my results if you want.

Check around with one of your electrician contacts (I'm sure you have them being in the building industry) and see if one can come over and help you out. Some of them really like doing it (crazy, huh) and will help for free or cheap. I had a guy offer to help on my last project but I got it figured out myself before he was available....

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN ** The truck Chevrolet should have built.

I just noticed something in one of the pictures I posted. It's a perfect example of orange peel/dry spray. Notice the light reflection on the door bottom is really clear and glassy, but that same light reflection is fuzzy to the left. I knew that the door panel covers this area, so I hadn't really spent much time sanding the primer well or worrying while I was spraying what it was looking like. I was concentrating on the lower part of the door that shows and didn't even look up to see I needed a much wetter pass here. Since it is covered it won't matter, but it just shows how drastically different the paint can turn out just by trying, watching, practicing.

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN ** The truck Chevrolet should have built.

Looks great. Most people won't paint their own trucks. It can be overwhelming. I took my time and my truck has 12 year old paint now, only a couple of issues after all that time.

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN ** The truck Chevrolet should have built.

Does anyone know where the upper trim locates on the fender? Can someone get a flexible tape measure and measure for me from the top edge of the fender (at the hood) to the middle of the upper trim near the front of the fender? It should be 3 to 4 inches?

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN ** The truck Chevrolet should have built.

I'll do an actual drawing for other's reference in a minute but the first hole is centered 1 7/8" from the front edge (same level as trim) and 4 5/8" down from the top edge

the next hole is 9 1/8" away and 5 1/8" from the edge.

Last hole is 5/8" from the back edge and again 4 5/8" from the top edge. 6 total holes

should be able to mark the two end ones and run a straight edge/tape between them if you're planning from the paint.
