Re: 1966 Chevy SWB Gasser influenced truck
I've always wondered if I should move the front wheels forward and inch or two. The front wheels always seem like they're set to far back toward the rear and the space in front of them bugs me. I'll either move it or fill the whole space with rim and rubber. Probably the latter.
Great lookin' truck.

if you move dropmember forward and not motor motor will have to raise atleast 1 1/2inches more than the 2inches it already does. If you slide motor with dropmember motor gets close to rad electric fan a must. Thought about all this briefly then nate told me dropmember centers wheel in wheelwell when air out I decided not to mess with it. Hope this makes sence not good at typing better at talking |

Re: 1966 Chevy SWB Gasser influenced truck
The DM does move the spindle C/L farther forward vs. the factory (1.5" IIRC). Did you want to move it another 1.5" forward?

Re: 1966 Chevy SWB Gasser influenced truck
Wow.... That's a bunch. I wonder how it would look? I guess in pics your front wheels look just about right to me. Do they still appear to be too far back in person?

Great thread. Everytime I see the dropmember in action I fall a little deeper in love.

Keep in mind that everything attached to the trailing arms is affected when the rear wheelbase is moved.

Re: 1966 Chevy SWB Gasser influenced truck
Sweet truck, love the gold motor.
I don't get the title "Gasser Influenced" though. I was anticipating a front straight axle, nose high attitude and lotsa motor. Whatever you call it though you do nice work. |

Re: 1966 Chevy SWB Gasser influenced truck
Big & little Cragars, gold motor, period valve covers & air cleaner are all period 'correct' items from the 'gasser' days so 'gasser influenced' sounds right to me. It's just not a straight axle & has a modern lowered suspension which is much better for driving.

Pick a NHRA class of that era, nearly all were running big a littles and aftermarket valve covers. What sticks out in the minds of those who saw gassers run was the nose high attitude and the straight axles. Like I said I really like Hardwaa's truck.... it's all good, but I still fail to see a gasser connection. Last edited by lakeroadster; 01-04-2010 at 07:16 PM. |

I've seen many 'support' vehicles for gassers that weren't running straight axles. So would a gasser-influenced 'support' truck work better?
