Outstanding truck for sure - love the fan setup! Those rims are sweet - 17" would be fine but I'd stick with that look if it were me.

So how do those rear breaks work for you? Did you use the 3" steel hat or the aluminum hat? The price seems right thats for sure... Looks great though..

lvscott - They are Doug Thorleys and I've had em for about 13 yrs. They did hang a bit low when I put em on. I heated them up and used a floor jack to get the collectors closer to the frame. I have to be carefull, but they aren't too bad. Right out of the box with truck at it's current height, I think they would be more of a problem.
mattsz - sorry, but I tossed em quite awhile ago....they were pretty beat up.

itsmike2k - I've had that sway bar since like 92!! Bought it from a company in Oregon called SoLo Suspensions. I don't think they are around any longer. Made a huge difference...think it's 1.25" and I had to make some new mounts at the frame because it cracked one of the old ones!

The truck is looking great!
I hope you can help me with something. My core support does NOT have the hole for the A/C lines (and the vintage air directions have no dimensions for where it should be, their instructions assume it's there ) anyway, could you give me some dimensions from a body line to the center of the hole, something like I've shown? I don't think it needs to be perfect, but close would be nice Also, any idea what size hole I need to drill for the grommet to fit? Thanks so much for any help. The grill is on my truck, so I'll have to drill from the backside.

I'm at work, so it's a little difficult to get too detailed. centerline of the hole is 5" (horizontal) from the radiator opening and 12" (vertical) directly down from the top of the radiator support (almost in line with the bend at the top of the support). I measure my grommet at 1.5" so I would drill a 1.25" dia. hole.

3.73 gears and about 2000 stall on converter.
Motor makes a ton of low end torque so I don't need much stall, which works great cuz cruz RPM is a little above stall RPM. Thanks!

These have been posted before, but wanted to add to my build thread.
Haven't done a whole lot lately except continue struggling to put the front glass in. First a buddy and I tried it then I had a glass guy come out and he failed, then another glass guy that was out changing glass in one of the company vehicles gave it a shot and bent one of the mldgs trying. So then I found the factory stuff, worked some dings out of it and polished it up and my boss and I gave it a shot and ALMOST made it until....CRACK!!!...SON OF A B.......! Cracked the glass at one of the upper corners. ......and it's been 8 fricken weeks since I ordered my "not so American" racing wheels and it could be another 2 weeks or so!! I wish they would hurry up and get here cuz having to wait this long has got my rethinking my choice. patience. The last pic is the wheels I have on order (photoshopped).

Hey Sacto,
Great job! I've been watching your progress, and I love that truck. Hope you get that windshield in soon, it sounds like a real pain to deal with. Is it the trim in the rubber that's giving you grief? I know there are two different sizes and two different rubbers available. Something about the groove depth in the rubber I think. Great choice on the rims. You won't be dissapointed. It's a racey look. Mine took a little over 8 weeks to get here too. Say...those red calipers look familiar, Cheers, Pete |

Yeah, I stole the wheels off your brother's truck...couldn't help myself and I will return them soon!! I do have the correct molding and rubber (checked and rechecked), but the aftermarket stainless had a little bit different curvature than the factory piece. The leg that extends into the rubber is a tad deeper on the factory molding as well and seems to hold the rubber in better during install....either way it's been a HUGE pain in the @ss!! Now I gotta buy another piece of glass and talk about being "gun shy" during the next install attempt. They say it's not the destination, but the journey that counts!......after 6 years, I'm getting a little tire of the "journey"!!! LOL!

A pain in the "glass" for sure...groan.
What about sourcing a nice original set of stainless? I want to change my rubber out soon, and replace with the stainless version. Now I'm a little spooked! Where did you get your rubber and stainless at? I have an original set of stainless I might use, but it's not perfect. A little dent here and there Cheers Pete |

Got both trim and rubber from the Car & Truck Shop. My Factory mldg had some dings in it as well, so I thought I would try and fix em. Basically I just tapped out the dents so that they were "high spots" and sanded them down just like I was cutting and rubbing out a vehicle. Ended with 3000 grit and finished with a metal polish....they actually turned out very nice.
If you can make the factory pieces work, that's the way to go. The little bit they fit better seems to make a big difference. The reason my glass broke during install had nothing to do with the quality of the rubber or stainless.
