I thought about that....

In fact, they sell them for your drill, but I think a DA would be better...

Re: '62 GMC Suburban "Rust"oration, Patina Build.....

Looks like you are having fun there.

My truck has slowed down also. Waiting for an under dast harness from Greg so I can do some of the wiring. Need a upper radiator hose which is hard to find so I think I am going to order a stainless flex hose but don't know if I want the chrome ends or just hoses. $78 with ends and $41 with rubber hoses.

Personily, I like the flex hoses with just the rubber couplers. One word of caution, the hose clamps that come in those kits suck. Replace with decent ones.

I think for the way my engine compartment looks rubber ends would be better. It keeps the theme. Plus at almost $37 less more appealing.

You didn't have all of them crossed, did you ??

Well I recieved bad news from Gary the machinist.

He measured the pistons (.060) over ... but the block measured out .062...

He felt it was .002 too much ....

Guess not close enough for the rings to seal ??

Really sucks, as this was the OG engine to my '63 C-10, and wanted to use it as a temporary Burb engine...then stick it back in the truck when the time came...

It has !

I got these last night from my machinist ...

He enlargened the openings to except the previously made bungs to convert to 88-98 LBJ's....

Weld the rings in and weld/smooth out spotweld drill marks (from removing the super tall, drop restricting, bump stop mounts)....then off to coating !

Re: '62 GMC Suburban "Rust"oration, Patina Build.....

You have to use the '88-'98 lower ball joint if you are going to run the '88-'98 spindles and the factory style 6 lug rotors. Most guys that use these conversion parts, use a '67-'72 C20 lower control arm. But Chief wanted to use the '73-'87 control arms with the rubber bushings, so this is how to make that happen. I will be doing the same thing on my '66 Burb. The Chief just beat me to it.

Dude! I haven't been on the forum for quite a while. This is the first time I saw your build. Excited to see what you're doing with this thing. It might even be a little motivation for me. Hopefully we can get these burbs back together and on the road soon.

Well ... I figure I work on my own stuff a day or so every couple months...

I dont have too much to report, other than I sandblasted and painted my spindles, oooooweeeee ! :
-
-

-
-
And most Importantly, I finally had the extra $$ to have the pallet of Suburban seats shipped to me from OKC !!!

I used "Uship" to get some quotes, and it was actually pretty reasonable !!

Should see them within 5 business days, cant wait to get them.

Rocktonka took the time to make sure they were well wrapped...

Well last week I contacted "U-ship" to get some bids going on shipment of the Burb seats I purchased from Rocktonka....

After about 2 weeks total (bids accepted/shipping), they made it safe and sound !!
-
-

-
Rock swears the drivers seat was perfect when it left him ....
-

-

-

-

-

-
-
I went from NO seats, to all three rows !
-
-
Turns out, this material is still made....Might have to look into that soon.
-
-
One step closer...
-
-
BIG THANKS AGAIN TO ROCKTONKA FOR ALL HIS HELP AND PATIENCE !!!!

Re: '62 GMC Suburban "Rust"oration, Patina Build.....

On Saturday, we made it to my shop ....
-
-
Loaded and ready to go...(pic from my desk at home)
-

-
Twisted wifes arm again to help push ...
-

-
Found the perfect spot for it...
-

-
-
-
Couple other GM's currently in shop:
-
'67 Delmont (awaiting more money from owner for exhaust, alignment then paint)
-

-
And an early '65 Impala SS '409' 4-speed (evidently, the early '65's were being produced with 409's)
-

-

-

-
-
And the "Z069" fresh from paint a couple months back...
