Well yesterday we test fit the speaker boxes under the seat.... they work... depending on what position the seat is in hahaha



Finally got the dash pulled out, had to cut that damn oil pressure line but it was in pretty rough shape anyways so IM not too mad about it.

Splashed some paint on the bezel and cleaned the inside of the glass.



painted the glove box too but the ****ty part of mixing old and new paint is sanding close enough to the old paint when attempting to mix the new with some accents of the old....

Looking good keep up the good work . I too purchased an engine stand as they are also great for doing the gearbox , and an engine crane since owning my truck .

Question for the crowd:

I've got a 350 sbc with the smh465 four speed, now I'm getting ready to pull the motor and want to pull the trans with it. However the trans cross member seems to sit so tight to the trans that I would have to cut all my insulation and sound deadening out and remove the tunnel to get it up and over. Has anyone dealt with this combo before or have any insight? I can't seem to find anything in the old search.

Most of what I have heard folks pull them separately cause the tranny weighs a ton. I am sure it is done, but that is what I normally hear on the board.

Love the speaker boxes. Are they for 6x9 speakers... any chance you would post rough dimensions I am keeping my original gas tank so speakers under the seat make sense...

Ok thanks, I had originally planned to just pull the motor but a mechanic friend of mine warned me against it due to alignment issues when trying to mount it back in there. Maybe he was just paranoid but the last thing I really want to do is cut into my floor now that I'm this far along so I think I'll deal with those "alignment issues" if they arise haha

Thanks, that picture is still a messy me I promised I sanded them after and smoothed all the edges out because they will be wrapped in black trunk liner to hide them nicely. They are for one size smaller than a 6x9 I think it's like 4x6 but I will check again for you tonight when I'm at the shop and take some pictures of the speakers too. Of course I will try and draw you up a template of sorts with all the measurements, they tuck nicely under the seat and hide away. My only issue is I should not have welded the mounting tabs to the floor under check fitment with the seat in the cab in my driving position, now I may have to figure out how to move the back mount forward an inch or two. Oh well live and learn

Right on!! I've always wanted an oval... one day. Mine is actually my grandpas, I pulled out of his barn a few years back. Ive got the original 36hp in that bad boy and man does she fly!! hahaha

WELL LOOK WHAT I DID!!

lol i know just when i feel like I'm getting some where I pull it more apart, but that god awful looking block was screaming for a facelift and a good cleaning.

Now since I'm new to the SBC (always been more of a diesel guy personally) but.... i know these are about the greatest motors when it comes to aftermarket parts. So I am planning on doing all the seals, but I was wondering on what people recommend for:

1. waterpump
2. starter
3. distributor
4. clutch for the smh465

I should clarify that none of these parts are currently giving me issues. But i am of the opinion that if I have this thing pulled out I might as well do some preventive maintenance since the PO cannot be trusted for anything he told me lol.

My 2 cents, will be the water pump starter get stock from your local auto parts store. The distributor get a hei that will do away with your coil. It will clean up your motor nice.

Working on cleaning all morning, blew up a wire wheel and spent the afternoon picking it out of my thighs. Fun.

Ok so I picked up one of those street fire msd distributors.... This thing is huge!!! Anyone else installed one in a 65? I'm concerned I won't have clearance on the firewall.

I have a stock hei in mine.My motor is all the way in the front.I got about 2 or 3 inches in the back no problem.

A large cap HEI will fit with a small block in the original location. Some guys freak out about it being close so they go and move the engine and trans forward. I don't think it is close enough to be worried about.

I would stay with the original style short water pump and also an original replacement starter. No need for any special clutch, just a stock style 11" clutch should be fine as long as you have a 168 tooth flywheel. Oh and have the flywheel surfaced.

When you say original style do you mean flow rate as well. I know edelbrok makes the same short style in a high flow, and I'm a sucker for black parts so I sure thought about stretching the budget there.

Well I know its been a day or two but I've been grinding my butt off trying to get this ol girl on the pavement come spring time...

So lets see here when I last left off I had just pulled the tired looking 350.



Now that its out of the way I had a chance to cane down the firewall, fill any misc. holes that are not in use, and giver a nice shot of gloss black for now.

A new gasket here, a new gasket there... overall as ugly as it looked the motor is in good shape, one small crack in the intake manifold that I had to weld and repair... other that that just hours of wire wheeling, sandblasting and cleaning

don't tell anyone but I used a ford colour here... I've never been the biggest fan of chevy orange-red so I decided to go a little darker and get a different look... I'm sure I've said this before but I HATE CHROME so I've had quite the time searching out engine trim that all works with my new colour scheme. I think it turned out well...







New street fire hei dizzy installed (can't wait to hopefully stop at a red light and not have my truck die)



Edelbrok high flow water pump for $370 or napa stock pump for $85 and $10 worth of engine paint......


and another part or two ready to rock once the engine is back in... going to pick up the flywheel in the morning from machining and get the new clutch installed... I'm getting excited over here boys and girls.
