Re: #3 The Sickness Continues

Hey Jeff,

Nice ride! I looked at that truck when I was looking for one. I almost purchased it, but then found mine the next day. I got lucky and was the first to look at mine, so I didn't hesitate...

You did a sweet job on it. I like the ride height. I'm gonna have to drop mine a little more like yours.

I need to get a radiator for mine and I'll have to take a trip to the East side and check out your rides in person

Thanks guys.....mechanically this truck has been maintained but needed to have things updated. Bodywise it's a little rough but not horrible...at some point the welder will be out

Re: #3 The Sickness Continues

Looks good Jeff

Did you use the relay kit from LMC? I had my wifey get me one for Christmas and I just spent all day today installing it and trouble shooting because the lights were dimm unless I hit the high beams... After while, I figured out that they had the high beam wire and ground wire in the connector swapped on the outer two lamps which was powering up the ground... I should have just bought new lamp pigtails and wired it myself... I figured this would be the easy way out, but was wrong...

Sorry for the rant, just wondering if you had the same kit and troubles.

Great work, keep the pics coming

Tony, the kit I got was from Classic Industries and looked like it was for a 'tuner' or something....yellow braided covering, etc. I checked out the harness and found I didnt understand the way it was set up. It appeared as though it used switches that ground, like a horn circuit, for eg. I cut off their connector and grounded 85 or 86 to the body(cant ever remember the damn #) used the other wires to plug into the the original plug. It came with the headlite plugs wired correctly and everything worked. So my original headlite switch sends power to ground thru the relay which in turn sends juice from the battery to the headlites(30 to 87).

Thanks mosesburb....still have the 'burb. I drove it around this summer a bit and it wouldnt start. I think I fried the ign module as I had a bad alternator and was only running on 11v for awhile before I figured it out. Due to frustration I havent touched it since that day. Needs a new harness badly!!

Re: #3 The Sickness Continues

I just saw one of those heater controls sell on ebay for about 30. I need to do the head light thing. What's the keyed switch fuse panel?

I was cleaning up the wiring as I started finding wires that do nothing, wires hooked to the fuse block and going nowhere.....you know how it is. There was a section of wire with about 3 crimps, tape, and six different wires going every which way and it was all hooked to the ignition switch. I wanted to clean it up and add some stuff so I made the ignition switch turn on a relay which then powers the fuse panel fed from the battery. I relocated the switched stuff to the fuse panel so it doesn't draw power thru the switch anymore; plus I can add if I need to do so later.

Re: #3 The Sickness Continues

OK, a weeks progress and I'm just about done with everything I want to do to this thing. Mounted the tool box up on 4'' stands so it has clearance underneath and is flush with the bed sides.

Today I took on the sway bar install. Cleaned it up and painted it gold. Why? Cuz I had 1/2 a can of gold hammertone.....picked up some new bushings and grade 8 bolts.

Got going on this and ran into a PO's project. 1/4'' plate hoops on the front frame. This made drilling a real PITA. Yet once again, I managed to win out over the truck.

Re: #3 The Sickness Continues

Still plugging away!!! Pulled the tailgate and I am going for the fauxtina attempt to match the truck. Using all Rustoleum products.....fun anyway. Also started cleaning out the drip rail around the roof. I will add new seam sealer and then paint the roof.

What color do you think it should be?? I was leaning toward white but thought maybe silver, or metalflake white??

Drilling sucked. Everything was fine except for the front bolts thru those hoops. I have no idea what they were for..... The gold paint keeps you from driving like an idiot and scraping it on stuff

This was my first thought; I'm leaning toward white.

Silver was my second idea. I like it a lot but the sun out here kills silver paint. It lead me to the middle of the road with a metallic white or flake clear over white......it's all for fun and practice!!

NO LIMIT ENGINEERING in San Bernardino California offer a kit for a little over $400. ( nolimit.net ) is their website and there's an interesting article about it.

Here's a link: http://www.classictrucks.com/tech/04...ows/index.html

It's in their technical section as, Project Old School-Building Out the Doors.
