Re: Lucky Find

You should leave it as is and just upgrade the drivetrain. The paint is great, how many people in Michigan have a truck with California patina. Anybody can have a fancy paint job but yours is one of kind.

Well said! You don't see patina like this up here. The tailgate is bowed and has holes drilled in it for a newer trim piece they had on it....so I would really like to replace it with a different one. The shop that is working on it feels the same as you and wants to replace the rockers and blend all the patina together. They are good at it. My buddy is headed to Fort Wayne IN tomorrow to get a different hood for it.

I was beginning to wonder if these "new" parts were gonna ruin the natural patina look you currently have, especially if they're a different color. If the shop can blend it all to look right though, I guess that's the answer.

I'm positive they can do it but I am going to save the orig. hood and tailgate.

Exactly.

Glos55, there's a guy on craigslist down the road from me who has an original 283 - 1963 model and a powerglide transmission. He's got the whole setup posted for $800, ad says the engine runs. You want me to inquire on it for you? Casting #'s?

Let me know. There's a few other 283's in my area too around your year range.

PO wanted 5000. because of all the factory options. The rockers don't worry me and my buddy's shop quoted a great price to replace them. The sheet metal is very straight and it drives out great! I would dive into it 100% but I'm restoring a 72 Charger and that's getting kinda pricey.
