SDWolf,

Should your temp sender be before the thermostat? wouldnt it kind of defeat the purpose having it after the thermostat? Im just asking.

Re: 1964 GMC 3/4 ton build :D

Got some more work done on the engine wiring in the last couple of days. I am waiting on some grommets to come in at the moment to start getting this setup in the cab and check the wiring lengths that I am going to be seeing on the engine. Here are some pics of what I have got done so far. Cheers!!

Re: 1964 GMC 3/4 ton build :D

Ok got the hole in the firewall cut for the harness to pass through. I cut it below the engine/frame harness in the firewall. I will prevail on my machinist to make a stainless steel filler panel to go between the two assemblies which will allow the grommet to seal all the way around the 1 3/4inch hole I cut in the firewall.

You're doing some nice wiring work.....looks like you've done it a time or two before.

If I may ask, where are you purchasing your electrical components and supplies?

Re: 1964 GMC 3/4 ton build :D

Hey Captain,
After getting some stuff from del city they got great prices but the relay mounts and the fuseboxes they sent me were mehhhh quality wise. So I went to O reillys and started catalog surfing lol. the fuseboxes they have on the floor there and the bosch relay mounts I found in the catalog and orderd they were a little pricey 16 a piece but much much better than the other set I have. I am going back friday night and pick up a 3rd fusblock and rewire the injector and coil power wires in my harness..
Lol actually this is my first time doing a injection harness so we will see. After i finish up friday night will putting power to it and see where I stand with it.

Re: 1964 GMC 3/4 ton build :D

Hey Sean, thanks for the info. I'll have to check out my local O'Reilly's and see what they have. Yeah those relay mounts are a little pricey. I like the ones of that style, where the mount is secured to the body and the relay just plugs in. I have bought the Painless relay mounts from Summit before. They are that same design and are less $$ although those that you are using look to be heavier duty.

Re: 1964 GMC 3/4 ton build :D

Hey captain,
Will keep those in mind for my future toys and projects. Yeah these relay mounts there is very little play in the wiring connector inside the terminal itself which why i wen twith em. I live nearby to painless so if I need more will go pester them in the shop. I am currently adding a third fuse panel to mysetup and will get some more pics up tommorrow night. I seperated out all the power circuits with the excepetion of the fuel injectors ( I kept them bundled together) that way I can check each circuit individually

Re: 1964 GMC 3/4 ton build :D

been busy last couple of days. Bracket system is just about finished up waiting on powersteering pump to come in at the moment. Belt length is 108 and 3/4 inch outer diameter and fits nice and snug and the tensioner is right in the wear marking where it is supposed to be at. The z06 exhaust manifolds are coming along as well. I got the passenger side one in at the moment it fit without too many issues just had to remove the tin cover plate and it dropped right in place. the driver side on the other hand I am having to clearance the mount. I will be working on that tommorrow night when I get the mount pulled out of the truck and on my vise for further work. So far the exhaust touches slightly on the outer edge of the exhaust pipe mount at the end of the manifold.

Will be finishing up all this tommorrow night and dropping it in. Should have my gaskets tommorrow night also.

Re: 1964 GMC 3/4 ton build :D

well got the driver side in as well. tapped the engine mount with a hammer and it slid forward enough to clear the manifold. Now the fun part will be for the exhaust shop. The collector is really close to the suspension caps on both passenger and driver side so they will need to setup the collectors with a couple of extra bends for clearance issues.

Re: 1964 GMC 3/4 ton build :D

Maybe it will be a good thing to go with headers, might help keep the engine cooler under loads, pulling rice burners or whatever you need to pull. I'm installing the headers on mine, only because they are what I have. I got the right side on, and to tell you the truth, they do look cooler. Those manifolds look like headers. Do they turn a 90 degree at the bottem?

Re: 1964 GMC 3/4 ton build :D

Hey Trev,
No these exhaust manifolds angle down at near 45 degrees at the collector. Yeah they are basically cast iron headers that are used on the 2002-2004 corvette Z06 they perform as good as smaller headers and are much cheaper I paid 100$ for the pair of those.
I am going to be trying the 2005 ls3 z06 manifolds as well I think I will get much better clearance from them since they are tight tuck factory manifolds.

Re: 1964 GMC 3/4 ton build :D

well after some muddleheadeness got the exhaust manifold issues worked out. found a set from a 2005 ls3 that are just sweat had to trim my frame a slight bit to accommodate them but the turned out very nic no interference issues on the exhaust pipe either. After that went back to the engine wiring and it is complete now. Sweet thing about these factory exhaust manifolds the o2 sensor is on top of the manifold right in the collector so no crawling around underneath the truck to get to em now. That lead to moving the o2 sensors connectors in my harness and much more. Got my corvette throttle pedal in today and will be working on that next. Another thing that has been bugging me is a cneter console..... Welp just found some thing that I am making work so far it is turning out very very nice.... Take a look and see what you think . The only truck based center console I have seen with a high mount transmission shifter built in. So after about 30 minutes of waiting at a junkyard broght it home and dropped it into place there. I had to raise the back of it about 3 inches due to slope of the floor in my truck but just finished sitting in the seat and checking out how well it fits. Now I have storage cup holders and shifter all taken care of for less than 200$... It came from a 2005 up f150 lariat or king ranch model. Either of those trucks area good source for them. Another bonus I am going to take advantage of is the fact it had rear ac vents on it . I took the back cover off it for right now and going to weld some plastic to fill the spots in then pull the vents and use them in the rest of the console I will have done by a fiberglass guy I know that does some awesome work.

Re: 1964 GMC 3/4 ton build :D

ok more progress on the interior as yall will see . I started working on the front section of the console yesterday while waiting for more money for the rear brake machining work being done. Should have some progress on that in the next few months once we get a cruise and a motorcycle purchase out of the way. On that note here are some pics of the work on the fronthalf of the center console in progress picked up a cheap sheet of 1/4 inch abs and started making the intial pieces for a test fit and so far coming out very nice. Next step will be the face panel where the radio and recycled ac bezels from the back of the console will go into. Then once all that is done can get some synthetic leather stuff and cover the panels to match the seats and console. From there mount the ecm and wiring setup under the front sectoin of the console.

Re: 1964 GMC 3/4 ton build :D

Ok here is some of what I have been up to of late. I just got the disc brake adapter plates today and will be installing them sat morning and will get pictures when I do so. Also have been insulating and sound deadening the cab with some stuff I found from a local texas supplier.
Will be picking up some thin abs sheeting to sover the insulation on the firewall and make it look nicer here soon. They have 1/16th inch thick sheeting for 21 bucks for a 4x8 foot sheet the extra will go into a storage attic until I have a use for the rest.... *eyes on the dart*
Here are some pics of the insulation progress to date:

Re: 1964 GMC 3/4 ton build :D

Also been working on the shifter. I didnt like the factory ford shifter that came with that console. So I got to looking at newer consoles lol. The factory shifter for the 07 trucks on has 3 drive positions on the shifter and detents grrrrr. But as luck would have it the 10 up ford trucks have 4 drive positions on the shifter . So off to ebay I went and 35$ later I had a 2010 for shifter lol. I had to make a mounting plate inside the 08 console so that it sat flush with the console top but it worked out nicely as you will see. I also got to looking at the shifting cable the ford one wouldn't work with the chevy transmission so I went looking thinking and hunting around and came up with a bm 6 foot shifting cable from a unimatic setup. More on that later!

Next Project after the insulation is done is junk yard hopping for some carpet out of a later model chevy truck and a little judicious heat application and remold it to my floor board ifn I can and add insulation where I cant for support. First things first measurments alot of them lol. Preferably going to grab a crew cab carpet so I have some extra material to play with and possible do the back cab wall with the estra left overs!

It looks like your console project is going to look exceptionally cool. I am going with the same transmission in my '81, but can't go the console route since I'm sticking to a bench, so I haven't gotten a handle on my shifter woes.
On the hunt for carpet; I'd suggest looking at Surburbans as well. A lot of carpet in those for sure. Looking forward to seeing your brake brake brackets. Your interior is going to be awesome!

Hey Zilla,
Yeah looking at the suburbans as well just not as many of them on car parts.com to go and look at lol. Going to be interesting no matter which route I go.

Re: 1964 GMC 3/4 ton build :D

been busy the last few months doing little things on this truck the cab insulation is complete now. Will be ordering carpet for the truck this friday to install then will start reassembling the interior here very soon. On the 6l80 I have it a trans shop and they were trying to convert it to a 2wd with a donor trans they had that has a cracked reverse drum in it. They kept telling me the shaft would not work lol... Good reason why their donor trans is a 6l90e not a 6l80e. So now they are getting a new drum for the 6l90 and putting it together for me instead of the 6l80 lol. They replaced the clutch discs and valve body in the 6l90 already so will have a very fresh trans when all said and done plus being a 3/4 / 1 ton transmission to boot!. Working on the engine covers and e brake cables today. Got to go back to the cheby house and find a little piece called an equalizer for the e brake cables for my disc conversion. Looking at the parts diagrams the passenger side cable is much shorter than the driver side and the equalizer is part of that assembly. now all I need is that peice and figure out how it intergrates the two cables and should be just about set on rear disc brakes sean style..... The engine cover turned out beautifully with the older gmc emblems I had floating around in a box in my garage. *chuckles* I paid 50 bucks for a truck that had them on the sides of the hood not realizing they are from a 56-58 gmc but oh well found a use for them so nothing wasted. Once I get the trans home will be reinstalling the engine and trans so I can find out where the trans shifter cable needs to go through the floorboard and start reassembling all of the interior, wiring harnesses etc. Then on to the cooling system and drive shaft. Once those two are finished painless is gonna send me there new test harness and computer for the 6.2/6l combo to do a test fit and run on it!!!! I dont know what the rewards is for helping them in their rnd but looking forward to having this thing up and running. I have the tank and all the fittings reasy to go plus a ford fuel pump that puts out up to 90psi and the corvette filter/regulator assembly. After that on to the bed get it lifted off the truck and replace the wood floor and strips and get ready for inspection and drive time :{) .... cant wait 13 years and I am more than ready to load this beast up with a 20 foot trailer and get to movin into a new house with 5 acres for more toys!
