Re: 1983 Chevy lwb slow build
Yeah, Flowmaster 10 Series makes you appreciate noise haha I just put some on my truck about a month ago, sounds beautiful headers just make it louder, awesome build you got going man!! Keep it up.
Definitely do the flowmaster 10 series if you want serious noise. I can barely tap the gas and it'll cause my car to chirps it's alarm its beautiful haha when they first go on there going to be stupid loud but as you drive and break them in. If you want to here mine go to my build you can hear them, but my idle was high that day so it sounds a little louder but when it mellows out its music to my ears. Page 4 Post #78 where I have the videos

Legally yes you can have I no, as long as your not trying to be a badass or anything most of the time cops won't screw with you, but there are some areas more strict than others too so that plays a part in it too

Re: 1983 Chevy lwb slow build
Spindles are here! Gonna get this drop rolling on Saturday, hopefully can have it done by the end of the weekend. Should be a 3/5 drop when I'm done.

Re: 1983 Chevy lwb slow build
Got the flip kit done on the rear. Started tearing into the front and realized that I am going to have to replace some of the front suspension, will hopefully have the drop finished tomorrow! The flip kit dropped it a lot more than I thought it was going to. I put the stock shackles back on and even then it was pretty low. I didn't have to do a c-notch but I did cut off the bumpstops. Here are some pics.

Re: 1983 Chevy lwb slow build
The rear actually looks a lot lower than it does in the pics. Will have some more pics of the truck once the front is lowered. I may have to buy some drop coils for the front as well or else I might end up driving up a hill all day

Re: 1983 Chevy lwb slow build
Front end dropped! Still a bit lower in the back... Going to buy 2" drop springs and put them in soon... Should be at a 5/7 drop then I think. A little lower than I wanted but I actually kind of like how low the rear sits and want to go a bit lower in the front anyways. For some reason, after I put all of the front end back together the wheels weren't able to turn.... Anyone know why this might have happened? Decided to call it a night. My dad's going to get someone to come look at the brakes tomorrow. Here are some pics

Re: 1983 Chevy lwb slow build
your rims are probably hitting the lower control arms. have to grind it back a little. it is an issue with 15" rims.

Re: 1983 Chevy lwb slow build
Turns out that the spindles I put on are causing clearance issues with the brake calipers... making the rotor not able to turn... anyone heard of this?

Re: 1983 Chevy lwb slow build
You got the right spindles for your rotors right? There are 2 different sizes of rotors from the factory. Can't remember what they are exactly. You might have the HD brakes and non-HD spindles.
Nice truck by the way! |

Re: 1983 Chevy lwb slow build
Got it all resolved... ordered the correct size of calipers for these spindles... I was pretty sure I ordered the right spindles... I measured the rotors and they were 1 1/4" rotors and that's what size spindles I ordered. Seems to be working now though. Going to replace a few more front suspension parts tomorrow then get it realigned the next day. Then I'll be able to drive it again! After that it's a bit more body work and then paint!

Re: 1983 Chevy lwb slow build
Drop is done! Got it out and rolling today! It sits a little lower in the back... I either need to raise the back about an inch or so or lower the front a bit more...

Re: 1983 Chevy lwb slow build
I agree with tinydb84 drop the front, just go get some coils for either 1" or 2" whichever you want and then there you go the flip kit should have given you about 5in. in the rear so you would end up with either a 4/5 or 5/5 but either way it'd look more balanced since that's what your going for

Re: 1983 Chevy lwb slow build
I think you may want to do both. Lower the front so the top of the fender is just above the tire and same in the rear. Perhaps slightly higher in the rear if you ever plan to carry some weight back there.

Re: 1983 Chevy lwb slow build
Thanks guys.... gonna try cutting one coil off the front to see if that's where I want it... If the rear is still to low I may have to raise it about an inch or so. It seems that just the flip kit got me about 6 or 7 inches of drop lol. I had drop shackles on before but took them off for the stock shackle and it's still waaaaaaay low.

Re: 1983 Chevy lwb slow build
Some updates: I cut a coil on the front and that about made the truck level. But, with my 255/70r15 tires with this amount of drop, they would rub on the tops of the fenders when I hit a bump. I bought some new tires all around for the truck. All BF Goodrich Radial TAs. 245/60r15 for the front, and 275/60r15 for the rear. I think it looks a lot better now!
