Re: lets see your custom touches

I'll be leaving them chrome. Those Ringbrothers handles are very nice as well, they were actually my other choice. I have their black anodized 'Air Frame' hood hinges and they are sweet! They make top notch pieces but they are proud of them.

same concept as the Kindigs, they are from a '69-71 Pontiac Grand Prix.

I probably could've save a bunch of money had I known about those!

Not so sure you would have saved a *bunch*, these apparently have a cult following in certain circles and command a more substantial price than you'd think they would. The handles themselves are reproduced though quality of the reproductions is eh. Originals tend to be in pairs of one pretty tight one and one really loose one. They are riveted together so rebuilding is not so easy and the door cutouts are pretty much unobtainium as are the backing plates in decent condition. I have a pretty decent set assembled now, but it took me 6 months to find all the right pieces to get that set together and in the end was not so cheap.

On the plus side, I felt for my project that it had the right retro feel to it while smoothing out the doors on my retro racer inspired Jimmy. The originals are just not racy looking and later lift handles would have just been too modern and probably would have been a difficult thing to adapt the mechanism. The Grand Prix handles worked with the same kind of latch the push button handles use so it's really just a positioning thing.

I haven't decided yet whether I am going to leave them chrome are powder coat them body color. It really also depends if I decide to smooth them out some by trying to rebuild them and maybe put a bronze sleeve bearing in them. If I do that they'll be apart and it'd be easy to powdercoat them at that point. My tuck is going to be powder coated entirely and later get wet paint matched to the powdercoat so the match would be good.

Re: lets see your custom touches

I tried mounting the 1st gen camaro ring bros handles without the cutout.....wrong move ....so i ordered 2 '69 door skins and cut out the recesses....so my handles were not cheap!!....and i probably would not do it again....but i like em.....and i thought about the grand prix handles a couple of years ago when the kindig-it handles came out......Whoops i'm showin my age (had a grand prix almost new with those handles).....i like em both....jim

Re: lets see your custom touches

My interior door panels were looking like they were 40+ years old.... so I used some laminate flooring to make new panels. I used some chrome pinch on molding around the edges so it had a finished look. Now the door panels have a similar look to my oak bed.

HO70 why not put it in the ashtray? Like the use of gas tank space, sounds like a good idea.

that mod from jus2qwk is one of my favorite in this thread so far. If my bodywork wasn't already complete I would've stolen it!!

Re: lets see your custom touches

Haven't done a single one
But if I had theoretically done any I think this would be the most useful one hypthetically. A tow hook mounted low enough that you can hook onto it without messing up bumper or scratching anything.

Built the front end the way it should have been for a 71 GMC. Just enough chrome to blind you when I am behind you.

The chrome is nice, the new ones are just plastic in your rear view mirror.

Yeah! that's sweet! My Dad had a '66 Caprice two door with the 327 4 speed, console w/gauges....it was bad ass! I've only seen a couple of those in my lifetime, a Big Block would even be better! I knew a guy back home who had a 427 4 speed Biscayne, that car was a monster! Sharp car you have there!
