Re: deer gets another one

justcuz, thanks for the info....................I will definitely look into this and set the truck up with it. The only thing own to drive are trucks and I am usualy very good at being cautious since i know their light rear end characteristics...................this accident was actualy my first highway accident and has made a believer out of me. I pick up the shoulder belts next friday and they are on the topof the list for things to do right away!

Re: deer gets another one

Darn right sexy!

I will have more coming up this weekend as I have 4 days off and plan on major progress
I found out today that insurance companys can decide to total your vehicles if you have a collision coverage package and the frame is tweaked in any way.
So since in my case I was on Liability coverage only, I get to bring the truck back to life..otherwise it would have been decided totaled....................................I am never realy used to crashes but I have gone through some of this stuff back in the day of 4x4s and competition and some banging around and twisting of the Jeeps...............never made much since to have comprehensive insurance on something you plan on thrashing out in the woods.
This truck was nevwer planned for that and I had anticipated getting a "value" coverage for it if and when I got it cosmeticaly finished.................but now it is coming back as jusa good old truck that I will still use carefuly but not worry too much if I get a ding or two.

A co-worker just crashed his Harley last Thursday.....going home from work.rounded a corner about 50 and a deer stepped out in front of him. He is realy lucky that all he has is some nasty road rash.

Re: deer gets another one

Kinda ironic.................but when I returned to work after the wreck , I had told the bike dude that I probably wouldn't daily drive my Chevy after I got it put back together and he said that we can't live in fear and that he rode his bike every chance.

Re: deer gets another one

it's amazing that you're even attempting this repair. Not something i would do, but it's awesome that you are. can't wait to see it back on the road when you're done.

more time than money!

Actualy I had put too much of myself into the truck in the last 4 years to just scrap it. I als started looking around at what was available to start over and i just don't want to go there again. I will patch this back and keep it as a truck to use pretty much as a truck. If I ever get my life settled down again I might part my stuff into a short box truck.
Truthfully I am not so sure if I am ready to get back into any more long term projects. ie: I spent almost all of my spare time for the last 4 years on this truck and then it was all over in a split second.
If I sound discouraged......................well yea I guess.

Re: deer gets another one

the corner is good as it'll ever get for this beast.

I plan on using this truck as a truck..........keep it in primer and someday utilize my driveline............still barely any miles on the engine, trans/transfer rebuild, new gears in front diff and a good tight eaton rear end.... new exhaust also and brakes.

Any way maybe find the ultimate short wide 4x4 that need s all of the above and just retire the K-20 frame and body..............

Re: deer gets another one

heck, for that matter, I have over a grand invested in just glass and exhaust..................not to mention all of the inside cab goodies like seals, regulators, mat, replacement OEM style speaker, a Sun tach that is a real Sun tach from the late 50s early 60s upgraded to modern ignition capabilitys (that was almost 500 to do)

What can I say...............the truck is me!
