Re: Restoring 1980 C10 big ten.
Got some more goodies, head gaskets to be specific so I got the heads installed again.
The new gaskets did not have all the same coolant holes as the old fel pro. Victor reiz/clevite 5746. So after searching the interweb I had 2 options, cut the gasket up and add the holes or run it as is. I chose to leave it as I felt I would bugger it up worse if I attempted to make new holes. Made a nice home made thread chaser to get the head bolt holes cleaned out. |

Re: Restoring 1980 C10 big ten.
Ordered some new parts as well, decided I will be going with a Fitech fuel injection setup and ditching the carb so I ordered up the fuel tank and such.
The plan is to get the wheels on and place the engine and fire it up where it sits to set the timing. Once the timing is set I will sell my Summit carb I bought a LONG time ago and get the EFI setup going. Also Intend to hit the wreckers and look for A) Serpentine belt setup B) Electric Fan Darn project creep. |

Re: Restoring 1980 C10 big ten.
Progress has been slow as the kid is in too many sports so I am spending my free time dragging him around the city every day. Did manage to get the engine painted and put mostly back together.
Need to check pushrod length with the new rockers but other than that it's almost time to set it on the frame. |

Re: Restoring 1980 C10 big ten.
Progress, still waiting on the summit order the fuel tank and sending unit have been on back order. Price was too good to cancel. Oh well I keep adding stuff to it like an x pipe and some different fittings. Supposed to ship tomorrow... We shall see. I have to go to the border to pick it up.

Re: Restoring 1980 C10 big ten.
Hey guys haven't posted too much but I finally got back in the swing of things after some busy time at work.
So what's new. Found some amazing prices on body panels from amazon.ca. I think they screwed up as they had free shipping and really amazing prices. After I got my delivery they removed all the listings for the stuff and it is no longer available at the same deal. I picked up some paint and started that component by painting the inner wheel wells in the gold color and for my first time painting I was very amazed at how it turned out. Aside from a few lint spots that landed on it I ended up with no runs and minimal orange peel. Very suprised with how I did with a cheap spray gun. Also ordered up some new fuel line for the c10. www.hotrodfuelhose.com had great prices. |

Re: Restoring 1980 C10 big ten.
Those inner fenders came out really good. Is the gold original to how those trucks were, or is that a custom touch?

Re: Restoring 1980 C10 big ten.
PSA- don't drink beer while painting or errors will result.
Had a tough go on painting the hood, Painted gold and then covered it but while painting the black my tape let loose in a few areas and I covered the gold in black. Tried fixing the gold and ended up screwing up the black. Restart,,, Screwed up the gold again. Ugghhhh. It's all good. tomorrow will scuff and repaint the gold and then clear coat. Regardless it's gonna look sweet. |
