Re: 1970 Chevy Longbed CST/10

This is a cool truck and I like your approach. Great job on the renderings, clearly you've got some skills there. One design idea I would forward is that your hockey stripe either terminate into a definable line or element, or that you stop it short of the edge of the panel where it terminates. Hopefully that makes sense. I like to see a stripe either continue a line or be its own element, personal preference. Look forward to seeing your progress.

Thanks, I will keep that in mind. I draw (on a computer) a lot of car and truck designs (more can be seen at my website www.RPM-ART.com . It's one of my favorite pastimes when I am not working on the truck.

Re: 1970 Chevy Longbed CST/10

Got the scoop and placed it on the hood. I love it. In fact, I like the old school scoop forward so much I decided to go that route. Then I thought "might as well make it functional" and started cutting. A little welding (please don't judge), grinding, and some filler work and it is ready for first coat of primer.

Re: 1970 Chevy Longbed CST/10

After countless days of sanding, I actually am starting to lay down some color. First coat of epoxy white sealer on the inside, the jams, and under the hood. Second coat soon and then I get to start on the outside. Then a guide coat, a bunch more sanding, and finally the real paint. I can't wait.

Re: 1970 Chevy Longbed CST/10

Thank you. Can't wait to be able to post more. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I ordered a new tilt steering column, Bench seat cover, foam, and some new lenses for the marker and brake lights. Oh and new glass all the way around. With luck I will be driving it this year.

It's gotta be a great feeling to see the paint go on!

Nice work, Rg

Kicking ass brother. I like the truck. Your timline has been a little longer than mine and it's super motivating to see you ticking along on your build. I gave myself a long term timeline of 5 years. 04-2023 is the limit of my original goal, and I'm also hoping to be on the road by the end of this year. Aiming for August as a very aggressive sub-goal but likely December.

Neat build. 70s are the way to go, but I am a bit biased.

Re: 1970 Chevy Longbed CST/10

The truck is finally a single color again. It's an epoxy primer sealer and it needs more coats (after some more sanding) but for the first time in over 10 years it is one color. Feels good. I learned a LOT of what to do and what NOT to do when painting this. I am grateful that I am going to shoot it again with more sealer before I attempt the final finish. I will post more as it happens.

I know it's right but spraying a guidecoat on that white paint feels wrong.

Re: 1970 Chevy Longbed CST/10

Happy Fourth of July everyone! Guess what I did this long weekend. WE HAVE PAINT!!! I am going to need to be doing a lot of color sanding, some touch, and of course buffing but the big part is done. Feels good to have the truck in the driveway again. It's been years.

Re: 1970 Chevy Longbed CST/10

I couldn't help but do a comparison shot for motivation. Now I feel energized to get the rest of this done and on the road.

Re: 1970 Chevy Longbed CST/10

Glad to see you reach this milestone! I mostly dread bodywork and it takes a lot of motivation to jump in, keep going, fix your mistakes, and get to where it's in paint. All of that hard work and feeling like it'll never be done and then, all of a sudden, it's done! Now the fun part - reassembly.
