Today's progress. Grill fitted properly and straightened, it had a smirk before
Both headlights in, makes such a difference with headlights in place, Looks much less abandoned. Decided to clean up the rear bed by welding up all the random holes. I guess many years or different tie down clips and carrying frames no doubt. In total 43 holes down both sides and the tailgate.

I had a chuckle about all your holes. That's about how many were in my floorboard that I welded up. Good job.

Fuel sender arrived today, many thanks to MJH1965
Our local delivery lady made me laugh, she leaves any parcels in the truck for me, but I guess she's colour blind and cant tell the difference between a car and a truck lol brass float rotted out, but luckily here's one I fixed earlier (it's handy when your're a hoarder). before after

No it was a tight grip around the brass float, my Apache is the same. When i get some fuel in it I'll see if the sender works, if not it's the bamboo cane method

Re: Uber Cool's 1963 C10 LWB Fleetside in England
No pictures updates for today but lots of progress over the weekend
1. Got the silicon radiator hoses installed, connected the heater hoses 2. Converted from generator to alternator and got my head round wiring it up and removing the voltage regulator box. 3. Got the 8 way fuse box installed, with 3 perm live feeds and 5 switch live, so can now start to wiring equipment up. 4. first to be wired up are the wipers, working off an original wiper switch I got imported from a junk yard in USA along with the headlight switch 5. Had a good hour just staring at the wiring with cup of tea in hand whilst I work out my 'head plans' for the indicator wiring and all light wiring, so planning on having that completed before next weekend. 6. oil drained and new filter fitted. 7. Painted the inner wings (fenders) matt black as they were a bit scruffy and starting to annoy me. 8. all flex fuel lines replaced. 6. Engine should be ready to fire up this week too, needing just oil, coolant and fuel more pictures next time i promise

Here's some pics of work to date, engine bay looking more filled and like an engine bay from this to this, not restored by any means, but functioning for sure wiring sure easier with the dash and steering wheel out the way, fuse box installed on the left, but fuses can be changed without the need to remove dash, but its nicely tucked up high

Re: Uber Cool's 1963 C10 LWB Fleetside in England
The headlight adjusters were all seized up, so replaced with new
Friday night filled the rad with water, tank with fuel and engine with Oil, No leaks and fired up fine, nice result Saturday morning didnt start off as well. Ran the engine again and ran for a short while then stopped, no fuel to carb, filter bowl dry, so suspected fuel pump, this was ok. Next up check the tank, urrgh , old fuel sludge in tank and mixed with new fuel and made a thick black gluppy sludge and blocked the sender unit filter. So no option but to remove tank and have it cleaned. Set up a Jerry can and hose to run the engine again, all ok for a few mins then water pump fails and leaks everywhere. Could easily have walked away for the day at this point, but determined to always finish on a up. With two setbacks I need at least 3 wins to keep me ahead. first win, was having a spare water pump on the spare engine of which I remember martin saying was a recent new pump on his engine. see the tell tale rusty stain mark from the hole under the pulley Old and new next to each other Ran the engine up and no leaks. Next up to make an exhaust system, from this to this Nicely tucked up inside the chassis over the trailing arms Next up moved onto the wiring, removed the previous owners terrible use of mains cabling to rear lights Pulled in a full new loom I'd made in fire proof sheathing from cab to rear lights rear lights need new lamp holders, so replaced with this new ones that need to be inserted and then peened over and by 11:30pm had the rear lights and brake lights working

Re: Uber Cool's 1963 C10 LWB Fleetside in England
Looking good . That water pump was only a year old because I got it after I purchased the truck , and I only drove it for a year before I took it of the road . I got it from LMC and when you pick up your prop shaft from mine and if you remind me you can have the invoice for your records

Re: Uber Cool's 1963 C10 LWB Fleetside in England
Got some more done on Sunday, ran the wires for the front indicators, rewired the column switch, installed a new flasher unit and working indicators.
Stripped and cleaned the OE light switch, got all the contacts working and worked out the switching order to wire up rear tail lights, next up the headlights and dimmerable dash lights (what luxury) My poor 59 Apache which has become a bike park to give me some more floor space. if the weather is good Friday off to the local Hot Rod meet, so will need to clean it up ready for that.

Re: Uber Cool's 1963 C10 LWB Fleetside in England
Also got some info re previous owner from a member on here (Average Joe). He kindly offered to go to the address in Eagle Point Oregon, and see what he could find out. I would have hoped it was the classic 'they had it from new story'. But somehow I knew it wasn't, as it had too many of the choice parts missing which to me said it was a parts truck to keep another one going. Turns out the elderly couple bought it from a junk yard a few years back and the husband was going to do it up, however reading between the lines it appears the old boy is no longer with us and hence why it was sold. The wife was mighty surprised it had found its way to the UK and Joe showed her a photo of its current primer red state, so she was pleased it was being brought back to life.
How does the US title document work re the date? Does it get renewed every year? The reason I ask is the reg plate shows a sticker on it with a '9' in the bottom LHS and an '03' on the RHS, so I always guessed that meant road tax upto Sept 2003, which seems to tally with the title that says expiration Sep 30, 03. But the process date says 092704, which I assume means 27th Sept 04. Does this means it's been off the road since at least 03 or 04 but in the previous owners name? So they must have got it from the junk yard prior to these dates? Any help appropriated!!

Re: Uber Cool's 1963 C10 LWB Fleetside in England
Tuesday's nights job was getting the headlights wired in. Ran in new wires for sidelights, headlights and mainbeam. Had an apprentice tonight. My 9 years old daughter pulled the wired through, added zip ties and assisted with the crimping.
Also installed a new floor mounted headlight dipper switch as the old one was shot. Bit of thinking required on the wiring as to which terminal was main and dipped beam Thinking time over and on with the crimping Daughter impressed with our handy work She also thought the fuses were pretty colours Tada..............job done and in before dark.
