Re: Big Red Dog
Seems that even when someone says they have found a good supplier for tin, they have at least one that doesn't fit right and requires mods.
Based on the amount of hidden debris you found in the rockers. it may very well be termites. Or their alien cousins. Humm, I wonder what color "The Big Red Dog" will be painted? Dave. |

Re: Big Red Dog
I just wish there was more of these products manufactured in the US where quality control might check 1 in 10 pieces for specs where as in say Taiwan might be 1 in 50! I did manage to get the floor mostly done just need a toe board piece I will fab tomarrow and then extend the inner rocker. I have the piece cut just need to get rocker on and weld it in. Then cab corner, back of cab, doors and then...

Re: Big Red Dog
rmvlt1100 points out a key reason why Troy is doing this for me. Time. I am fortunately able to provide him with the funds and support that he needs and he is able to provide the skill. I joked with him that I could learn to do this, I just wanted to finish it before I die.
Troy, I sure don't want to be the bottleneck of a delay. And, we are light years ahead of any concept of a delay. Looking good, as usual. I'm not scheduled to go out west until the end of May, so I might make a trip up in a week or 10 days. Just to gander. Dave. |

Re: Big Red Dog
I'm not sure about middle Kansas but in northeast Kansas and western Missouri, we had a blizzard yesterday. So what else does Troy have to do but go out to the garage and work on my truck!
I can see that some of those patches are not on the re-pop list, anywhere. Nice job, Troy. Man, every time someone mentions color, I see red. Must be a personality thing. Dave, red 1998 T/A, red 2002 RAM 2500 and soon to be red 66 WonTon. |

Re: Big Red Dog
The big storm missed us! It was cold and rainy but no snow on the ground. Hopefully tonight the cab will be close to done then its on to the doors... Might be going to look at your paint tonight and see what ppg runs! DuPont was $650 and nason was $250. Wonder what color it will be? Hum... Hey did you want the fuel tank saddle's cut or left like we talked about and do you want both holes on the trans tunnel holes filled also or just the shifter hole?

Re: Big Red Dog
Cut the tank brackets where they come up in front.
Fill both holes. Shifter and e-brake. I don't think there is any way I'd use the e-brake floor mounted, but I can always cut a new hole if I change my mind. You going to be around this weekend? Dave. |

Re: Big Red Dog
Well cab rust repair.... Done! 42 hrs later! I really wish cab corners were extended to under the first rib on the back of the cab! Good thing I've made some of those before. So I filled the holes on the trans hump and smoothed a little mud on the cab and also found another spot on the front cowl that had a hole so I repaired that too! Next up sand, sand, sand then we sling primer on cab!!!

Re: Big Red Dog
When you said that you would make some templates and cut patches for the hump, I had no idea how tight a fit they would be. They look factory fit, no better.
Sorry that I didn't get the PM before I came by. I would have brought them originally, but the procrastinator that I am, I didn't know what I wanted to do with the interior. I will not be leaving it pure stock but am not trying to make a Rolls Royce out if it either. For sure the Heater/vent controls will be after market A/C, the ash tray blocked off and probably the radio also. I'll get the interior panels to you next week. Troy has done a great job. There is a floor, rocker panels and cab corners that don't look like the Swiss cheese he mentions above (plus other areas that contribute to the structure of these). He pointed out that it appears that the cab top has been painted before. He showed me red primer under white, under grey primer, under white. Didn't see metal damage, as in no impact damage though. Dave. |

Re: Big Red Dog
Thanks Dave! These were just rough cut and fit perfect.. I was surprised. The shifter hole was the same size as a partially used grinding wheel and I used the trim that holds the seal for the slotted area for that piece. Trace inside the trim piece and cut on the outside of the line and they fit perfect. I'm going to get paint and clear tomarrow then maybe try to wrap up the bodywork on the cab and start on the doors! I'm still on schedule for my date I have in my head... Can't wait to start slinging some shine on this thing.
I think I'm the king of procrastination!!! I get in modes where I can't get off my but to do anything them when I do I'm like a dog looking for a place to.... Feel better! Lol Lots of views on the build and want to thank everyone for checking it out and feel free to comment or ask questions.. I tell you what Dave, I hope you don't have another diesel that you will pull up in next... Even my neighbor asked if you'd got another truck. Haha I just want one! I'll see ya soon. Re: Big Red Dog
Well, yesterday started off with the end of this epic of procrastination. Mow the yard. Dodging the rain only left me with 1' high weeds, hiding a chunk of frame. Not good for the almost new mower. So this morning, I pulled it apart and welded up the break and tried to finish the mowing. Felt like a Zamboni (or whatever they are called) with nooo traction on wet grass. After a few hours FedEx came by with a package that needed signed, notarized and re-FedExed today. I should have noticed the hesitation in the voice of the new FedEx driver when I asked her where the nearest drop was, but I didn't. Drove for 2 hours around Doniphan county to determine what I suspected. I will have to drive 36 miles to St. Joseph to a FedEx drop. The address FedEx is going to deliver the package to is in St. Joseph.
I have a large enough family that I'll be buying pre-07 Cummins dodges until I die. Procrastination/frustration it's about the same. Dave. |

Re: Big Red Dog
Note to self... Don't judge a book by the cover! Well I found out there is a couple spots on the roof that have had bodywork done on it. I finished the bodywork on the rear of cab and firewall and am almost ready to spray some primer!!! Just need to finish stripping inside of cab roof and sand the rest of roof. Also Dave, I'm going to have to put door bottoms on both doors... I think that's the last of the cancer in the truck... Doors will be the last thing done. Oh yea got some stuff today but I'm not telling what hehehe

Re: Big Red Dog
I assume that the pic above (points up) is 1) the result of sanding and 2) preparing to spray some primer. Least with no other explanation, that's how I'm reading it.
Troy, if I recall, UPS does deliver to your house, right? If so, PM me your address and I'll send the missing dash parts by UPS. Can' be much for such small items and it'll be 2 weeks before I'm that way Dave. |
