Re: Fashionable Fever! - 1969 Chevy C10 Build

Got the missing piece welded in! Still got to clean up the welds and then I can reinstall the drip cap.

Re: Fashionable Fever! - 1969 Chevy C10 Build

I got my 67 running and drivable. Drove it over to the alignment shop. Should be done next week sometime. Not too worried since it gives me more room in the garage!

Couldn't wait to get back at this cab work! Finished up the drivers side drip rail and I made the missing piece to go on the inner roof. Hopefully tomorrow I can weld the piece in!

Welded in the last piece on the drivers side inner roof. Almost ready to flip the cab upright!

Re: Fashionable Fever! - 1969 Chevy C10 Build

Managed to get the cab flipped upright after sanding all the paint off the interior roof. I need to purchase some insulation for the roof before I weld back on the outer roof skin.

So in the meantime I just started to work on the lower pillars and kick panel on the passenger side. The kick panel is a really doozy for some reason. It took awhile to get it cut to fit and tacked in place. Still got a bit more welding to do on the panels.

Here is the lower "B" pillar patch. Of course it needed some modification to get it to line up correctly. I'm curious why there are two holes vertically in a line where the back cab support matches up with the b pillar. I thought these were spot welded in place, but it seems the holes are for bolting the b pillar to the floor. Is this correct?

Passenger side kick panel mostly done. Need to clean up some welds and such. The A pillar is also tacked in. I also hung the door in preparation for the cab corner and rocker.

Re: Fashionable Fever! - 1969 Chevy C10 Build

I moved on to the drivers side after looking at the passenger side corner and rocker. Wasn't ready to tackle that. So I got the drivers side kick panel done and B pillar tacked on. I also got the A pillar all ready to be tacked on just ran out of time tonight.

Re: Fashionable Fever! - 1969 Chevy C10 Build

Finished with the drivers side B pillar. Also cleaned up the cab corner area in preparation to get that done.

Last night I hung the door and screwed on the cab corner and rocker. Got it all to line up, but I'm left with a 5/16" gap along side the bottom of door. The vertical gap along the cab corner seam and up look pretty good and the area just below the drip rail looks okay. I know these didn't have the cleanest gaps back then so I'm not that worried. I'd just like to get the rocker up a bit more, but if I do that, the bottom of the rocker and cab corner don't line up. I can't move my cab corner up any or the body lines won't line up. So I'm stuck with a little bigger gap below the door unless someone has any ideas?

Looking good on the cab repairs. Glad I'm not the only having to do the same repairs. Now if I found this thread earlier I would of got you to bend me a couple of those above the door pieces aswell. Were they tough to do with one part being square and the other one rounded.

Yea it's a lot of work but worth it. I'm glad I took the skin off. There was a ton of metal rusting under it and I could do a lot better job on the inner roof.

As far as the part above the door - do you mean where the drip rail attaches to or the inner roof where it ties into the door jamb? The inner roof was actually easier than I thought it would be. I took a piece of 20gauge and used my welding tank to bend it and then used my air flanger for the door jamb. The piece where the drip rail attaches was a bit tough since my metal brake doesn't do those back to back bends. I actually had to weld a piece of 1/4" round to the metal and bend it by hand. It's not as tight of a 90* bend as the original, but it works and it's pretty hidden.

I saw your pics on another thread. I still got to check out your build thread, but it looks like your going all out on yours! It's gonna be sweet!

Re: Fashionable Fever! - 1969 Chevy C10 Build

The piece in post 135. The one side is non existent and the other side is half there on mine. Looks good though but tough to bend I bet.
I got a door and a fender I'm going to carve up for most of my patches. The curves look pretty close to the same as the roof skin. I'll have to track down one of those air flange tools, looks like it did a good job and would be handy to have with the amount of work I'm doing.

Yep that's the piece that was a bit hard for me to do with my harbor freight 36" brake. Like I said I bent one 90* then measured out to where the next 90* would be and welded a piece of 1/4 round steel along the line that I measured and used a wide vice crimp to bend a 90* in it. It took a bit of time, but turned out pretty good for not having the right metal brake. Also it will be mostly covered in the end.

The flange tool did an okay job. I'm sure they make a better one than what I have. I bought mine at a Napa a few years ago. It was probably $50. Funny thing is is I don't even have an air compressor... it's on my list to get!

Re: Fashionable Fever! - 1969 Chevy C10 Build

I finally got my drivers cab corner tacked in. That thing took awhile to get fitted. I've spent a lot more hours on it than I thought it would take. I figured I better make it look good since it's a piece people like to look at! After I tacked it in I tested my rocker and it dropped right in so that's always a good thing! Hopefully I can keep working on the cab for another month or so before it gets too cold.

Looking good man! I knew you would be done before me. I was working on my truck today too....ok so in an indirect way. I am actually trying to make a home for the truck in my yard so it doesn't end up under a snow drift in a field this winter. Hopefully the weather holds up for a few more weeks.

Any updates recently? Figured you would have had the cab primed by now

Ha! Funny guy! No I haven't been working on it since my last update. Not sure why - have all the time in the world, I guess I have just been lazy lately. Just wasn't ready for the cold this year I guess. I had to park my 67 and my car in the garage now too so I don't have as much room to work on it which kinda sucks.

I've been watching everybody's builds and getting eager to get out there again soon!

Re: Fashionable Fever! - 1969 Chevy C10 Build

It's been quite awhile since I've worked on this pickup. I've spent the last few years remodeling my house. Took many evenings, weekends, and money, but it's mostly done. I'll wait until it's cold out to get the final touches done.

Spent last Saturday cleaning out my garage from all the saw dust and putting everything back in there. I finally hooked up my new air compressor so now I can buy a few more tools to help with the pickup.

Last couple days have been spent trying to figure out where I left off on this cab. Tonight I hung my front fender to check my rocker panel gapping. I thought the gap between the door and rocker was too big (measured 5/16") but after hanging the fender it seems everything lined up well. I'll probably ponder it a few more days to see if I can close it up tighter, but after looking at the door and everything else I dont believe I can move anything to make the gap less.

Still have to figure out how I'm going to get my inner rocker panel back in. I cut it out when I was last working on it a few years ago. The only thing I can think of why I cut it out was my outer rocker won't fit with the inner installed. Gotta figure out how to put the inner back in without cutting it up too much more.

Shoot, forgot all about the pictures being rotated. My apologies. I'll have to remember to turn my phone sideways when snapping them. I believe the home button needs to be to the right?

Ive been wondering what happened with your build. Glad to see your back at it. Mine is also taking a long time but I'm getting to some more interesting and fun fabrication. Good luck with your inner rocker fitment. And yes home button on the right for pictures.

Thanks man! I've just been lurking the last few years. Had to stay focused on getting my house projects done. I checked your build periodically to see when you were going to get that cab primered. It looks great!

Hopefully in the next few weeks I can get back in the swing of things on this pickup. Just trying to figure out where I left off. I'd love to get my cab to the same point you are at. I also would like to get my frame set on a set of wheels so its a little safer (its sitting on jack stands, set on tire dollies).

This is my first time seeing your thread, and reading it through, it was easy to see your skills and resourcefulness develop as time went on. It's going to be a great truck. Good work getting so much done on your house. That value will always be there.

Appreciate the words. It feels great to get my house to this point. It also is nice to be walking on carpet. Most of the house was plank flooring. Grew up with carpet. Also the lack of sheetrock dust is a nice change.

Been working on the windshield wiper/washer pump motor mount for a few days. After removing the mount found it was alot worse than I thought.

Had to cut out the whole back of the mount and a little bit of the side that was very pitted/rusted. Just waiting for the primer to dry so I can weld it back in the cab.

Bit the bullet and bought one of these. Thing works wonders in tight spaces. It also does a nice job on cleaning up the welds.
