Re: My suburban's Twisted Little Sister
Well Friday went well and we finished the rear frame turn downs. Today however did not go as well. First the air compressor blew a head gasket then my mig welder screwed up. The wire keeps getting jammed inside the nozzle. We did manage to tack the reenforcing plates over the joints

Re: My suburban's Twisted Little Sister
Nice! I had a rough shop day Saturday with the air compressor going down and the heat went out too.

We got the compressor rebuilt but the mig welder is still down. So today we decided to flip the frame over to weld the bottom. Used the engine hoist to remove the front and rear suspension. Then picked the frame up and flipped it over

Re: My suburban's Twisted Little Sister
Well since the frame is nearly finished and the temperature finally managed to break into the 20's we decided to bring the truck into the shop and let the snow and ice melt

Re: My suburban's Twisted Little Sister
The passenger side is fairly strait The drivers side has a dent in the door and one in the rear quarter. The rear doors have some dents in the lower gate

Re: My suburban's Twisted Little Sister
Rust in the quarters. Rust in the kick panels. Rust in the vent housings. Rust in the rockers and floor. The door bottoms aren't so bad

Re: My suburban's Twisted Little Sister
the bonus is that the rear floor isn't rusty-since its wood!
your rust repair looks about as bad as mine was on my 64 sub...( some shots of it here: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=448681&page=3 ) are you going to just get some repro rockers and fab up a new floor?

I like the color on the Burb. Rust repair will keep you busy a day or two.

Re: My suburban's Twisted Little Sister
Took a couple better pictures of the rusty rockers and floor. We got the truck stripped and a bunch of parts piled up.

Subscribed. Trying to visualized what you are doing with the frame. In some photos, it looks like the skeleton of a dinosaur, in others I envision what it must have been like working with John DeLorean in a garage!
Suspense is killing me!

Re: My suburban's Twisted Little Sister
Love this build.
That pic of the snow and ice when you pulled it into the shop, should be captioned "Who needs to wait for summer?"

Welded the X braces in front and back. Then we made a pointer to find the axle center line. We spent a lot of time laying out cut lines. They are a little hard to see in the photos

Re: My suburban's Twisted Little Sister
One more picture of the cut lines. Then we used tape to show where the cuts will be made. Rear door frame moves back 16" wheel well moves forward 9 3/4" the back of the truck moves forward 19". We finished the day drilling spot welds so we can remove the roof.
