67_C-30,
Do you know where that 71 mounted his ac? On the 6.2L, the ac is mounted on the drivers side...If you run the hydroboost, you will not have enough room to mount the ac. Thanks, David |

The hydroboost master cylinder doesn't have a big booster behind it & doesn't stick out "that" far, & unless the engine was sunk back into the firewall really far I see no reason for there to be a clearance issue Now I may be incorrect in this, but I don't see you as being right in stating that it won't work either Last edited by Spray-Bomb; 01-25-2008 at 02:28 PM. |

I have also been playing around with some decals to go on the engine and under the hood. Detroit used to designate their engines by # of cylinders -Type of block - cubic inches per cylinder - and "T" designation if it were turbo charged. For example a 6V71 was a V6 engine with 426 cu in. With that being said, the 6.2 TD would be an 8V47-T if that designation was still used. I made up a few different designs of this decal, and another that would be a valve cover decal with all the service parts numbers. I think they'll look very cool on there and definitely different than anything anyone else has.

Will that motor bolt up to the same transmissions as the chevy v-8's. It sure looks like the same bolt pattern on the back of the block. Sorry for the dumb question i just know nothing about diesels

Re: 67 C-30 Dually pickup build.
Yes, the transmission bell housing and motor mount pads are the exact same as a SBC. They are a direct bolt in. These engines put out a little over 400 ft lbs of torque with about 10 lbs of boost, and are very durable as long as you keep them cool. The other two 1 tons I've with this engine have averaged around 18 mpg, but will get 20+ all day long in 1/2 ton truck. My '84 K1500 gets around 25.

Re: 67 C-30 Dually pickup build.
I have got to hand it to you, this is a very very cool truck you are building, I have long thought of exactally what you are doing. I have a 72 C-30 that I am working on right now. Somthing you might consider is installing a NV4500 as well, I will be posting pictures on a build thread here shortly, I think you might take a lot away from it.

Re: 67 C-30 Dually pickup build.
Oh one more thing you might consider, this is a swap I have done in the past, if you find a 73-91 suburban in the junk yard, you can pull the fuel tank right out of it along with the frame cross members, these will bolt directly into your truck, some times with no drilling required, I am trying to remember, but I think that some of the suburbans even had 32 gallon tanks. you can also cut the fuel door out of a 90's model suburban, and graft it into your bed side, it looks really sweet, and the fuel door looks like it is suposed to be there.

Re: 67 C-30 Dually pickup build.
That particular Isuzu engine is rated at 87HP and 166 FT-LBS of torque. It is a 235 cu in engine. The good thing about diesels is the ability to turn them up usually for either no cost or very little money.

Re: 67 C-30 Dually pickup build.
I know that the Isuzu 4BD2-TC is rated at 135 hp, but I couldnt find a torque rating on it. They are a peppy damn engine though, and if memory serves, the 4BD1 is rated at 128 hp, so they are both good engines, and are capable of being turned up cheap.

Re: 67 C-30 Dually pickup build.
I have been flipping back and forth on the whole altitude thing for awhile now, and I know of guys say slam and lower it, but I just can't see the big rattling diesel dually in the weeds. If it were going to be a big block truck, I'd be more open to it, but low and diesel just doesen't seem right to me. That leaves me with the dilemma about what to do about the rake. I went back and looked through a bunch of my saved dually pics 68gmcdually's extended cab dually and the blue Longhorn dually really stuck out because they have an all business look to them. Both of these trucks sit almost level, and IMO they look good that way.
I got the ol dually out today and hauled off a bunch of boxes and junk from my storage building (ya know, cause Santa has to put the toys together in there to keep from waking the kids!). When I got through, I threw the trusty ol floor jack under it to get some ideas. I bought a full set of 6 almost brand new tires that are a good bit wide and taller that what I was running, so I put those on and and jacked up the front to make it sit level. From the current height I'm going to have to come up about 3" higher in the front to make it level. I like the look of it that way. I'm thinking about buying a new set of 80's Diesel C-30 front springs since they seem to be about the heaviest ones made that will easily fit under my truck. I wonder if it will be enough? I may have to run a spring spacer as well. I am definitely going to be spacing the front wheels out a couple of inches also. Not much of an update I know, but it was nice to get it out and drive it around a little.
