Re: 67 pro-street

Frank, I had no idea you were so xenophobic. I bought a really nice tach dash with speed warning from you for $550.00. The transaction went well. I think on both ends. I paid you immediately with paypal and you shipped immediately. It was packaged great and I was very pleased and proud to mount a rare item like that in my Son's project truck. It surprises me that you show a negative attitude towards people that purchase items through the mail.I'm sure your business will do better without people like me that have made purchases from your business via mailorder (sorry, I couldn't be there to touch it, look at it or ask alot of meaningless questions before I handed over my cash). I have never purchased items from Ed. I have spoken with him on the phone and he seemed like a good honest person. I would not hesitate to do business with him sometime in the future. I have never flamed any fellow member on this board but was very surprised with your "HELL NO" attitude if you aren't a citizen of Washington State. If you ever make it to Nevada, I really hope you aren't treated that way!!!!

Well, you just learned an important lesson...there are long distance problems dealing with mail order parts.
Why didn't you buy with one of the many local/Washington dealers, that you could have worked with face-to-face? After all these problems...
Your solution was to go right to another out-of-state company, and work long distance again.
I, for one, sell and stock a very complete selection of dropped suspension for our trucks. You could see it, touch it and get several options for your budget and needs.
No I am not trying to solicit your business, I am doing just fine...but why do you insist on giving your money to everyone except the people in business where you live?
Sorry for venting, but I will never understand why guys don't first support their local businesses. I get calls continuously from guys that bought all their big parts somewhere else and now they need help making them work. HELL NO! I spend my time & efforts helping my customers, the ones that buy here and live here!

Can we please pass the plate, gather up $300 to pay this kid off, and get back to building stuff? Life is hard....suck it up-walk it off-what ever... How much does a class costs (pick one...any class at all)? Some go for about $300 or more, right? Just chalk this thing up to a good lesson learned and walk away. You got a $300 class in life and never had to visit a campus.

Remember, DO UNTO OTHERS.... What if the roles were reversed and Ed had opened a thread and blasted you without warning? Everyone may have looked down on you because he is a well-know business man here and you are just a 17y/o kid. Doesn't sound fair, does it? Next time something like this happens (and it most likely will, eventually), try to exhaust ALL of your resources to resolve the problem in private before you call someone out at high-noon.

Any word or announcement before we dismiss?...

I've never delt with ed myself - but I do plan on it in the near future. Im sorry things didnt work for a fellow member on his purchase. I agree with many and this is not the way to argue your point.

I would like to ask the board to strike this post, so that no further damage can be done to ed's reputation.

Id give ed a couple days and then resolve your differences in a more productive manner.

Frank/PICKMUP: I wasn't suggesting you were the one who talks bad about competitors by the way. Believe it or not there's been PLENTY of problems with some of the people on the board selling parts - some of them still here and some of them banned, but manage to sneak around to cause trouble. Fast68 comes to mind.

gonebad2 and I basically agree. I wouldn't disagree with you at all if you were personally irritated about buyers going out of the area, BUT were actually doing something about it. Maybe you are...I don't know...but I think turning this thread into a soapbox about out-of-state vendors is a bit inappropriate considering the context...

I've said this over and over and over again. You can solve your out-of-state problem with a little ingenuity, good marketing, and solid advertising like a lot of these vendors are doing to expand their businesses - AND improve your business at the same time.

People just don't buy from a personality or a face over a hand-shake as much as they used to. People like convenience, quality, and fast service, but they want to avoid "people issues". People today like pretty pictures, cool websites, new and interesting ideas and products, etc. (I like to call them "shiny objects" and "squeaky toys" LOL) - especially younger guys getting into restoring cars/trucks. That's why people buy from out-of-state vendors and have the parts shipped to them....it's FASTER, EASIER, and they don't have to worry about relationship building.

Oh well, this thread is about shot anyway.
Thanks again. It was nice doing business with you, although I thought of it more as a friendly little deal, where I provided you with a nice rare item you couldn't get anywhere else.
Please don't misunderstand me. I am glad to help others. I do it all the time, even with tech info, special items & pics for folks on this board...but, LOCALLY I try to concentrate my time and efforts on the guys that are my customers---NOT the ones that buy their major parts from another company or an out-of-state cheap swap meet booth... and then want me to make it work for them.
I will still advise everyone to look first to their local businesses, before going clear across the country...UNLESS the items are not available locally or there is a BIG savings.
If you live by Ed, Tim, Rick, Paul or others, go there first. It will make your life much simpler.

Boy, it took me forever to find xenophobia in the back of a dusty old dictionary. I was afraid I might have been guilty of psuedepigraphos writing, or something. Stop using those big words, it interfers with my typing.

I consider myself to be the best at what I do, which is selling appliances to fine home builders and their clients. Sometimes I screw up and forget to call a customer, sometimes more than once and even with the same customer repeatedly. When it happens, it's nobody's fault but mine and I deserve the ration of s&*t that I get from the customer for it. If that's the case here with Ed, I'm sure he would handle it the same way. Even the best people have lapsed moments.

Can we all move on with our lives now?

I love this board.
It's just like family!
The bickering and all!
We have all gone to battle with our brother at one point or another have we not!
This board is great! And I really doubt that this has made anyone change their mind about Ed, Frank, Billy, Bobby, or anyone for that matter. They are all great guys. And that is that!

Ed didn't get where he is by being a scam artist, he never would have survived this board since near day 1.
Ed has proven his mettle by resisting the urge to snap at this bloke and dealing with him as a good businessman would when a less than satisfied customer arises , no lame excuses or passing the buck from him. You can't be perfect all the time but I don't think any of us thought for one minute Ed had ANY intention of ripping dude off.
I think the subject line was out of line, scam artist my ass, you'll know it when you meet one next time.

Well Ed, you went above and beyond..You will get my business.

as for 67pro-street, what can I say...you picked the perfect avatarf or yourself, Kramer the mooch, or leach as some might say. Shipping them back collect? If I were Ed I would have refused the shipment and you would be the proud owner of a set of damaged spindles.

Peace out!

Oh well, chalk it up to inexperience at ordering, shipping and possibly installing. Hmmm, threads were "miraculously" damaged but the spindles were shipped back with the protective caps on the threads. D'ya suppose the UPS guys took the time to open the package, remove the caps and hit the threads on both spindles with a hammer a few times? I'm suspicious, especially after you mentioned that you spent a lot of time trying to make those spindles fit. How long until you realized you had the wrong ones?

Anyway, you have no idea how word of mouth can make or break a business. This board has over 10,000 members and the folks who contribute to the postings are actually a very small percentage, most are readers. If not for all the good people stepping in and saying ED is NOT a "scam artist" and a real stand up guy, you might have done some serious damage, almost worth calling the lawyers. There ARE laws you know. Be very careful next time.

I also think, since you opted to drag all this out in public, then you owe ED a public apology.

I have recommended your business to many of my friends. Thanks again for taking the time to respond to my post. No more dictionary words...lol. re

I've talked with Ed in the past, he's a stand up kind of guy, and he knows Chevy trucks. He has supplied me with 2 parts that I couldn't find anywhere in the nation!!!!!!!!!!! And they were in exceptional condition! I'm a flight engineer on a jet, and I get around. I've bumped into people (in texas) that I don't know that know Ed in Florida and they speak highly of him too!!!! Your post means nothing to me. I'm keeping Ed's number in my Rolodex. He's done nothing but help me with my project!!!!!!!!! Thanks ED!

It looks like Ed took a loss on this one. I don't believe it's his obligation to do so. I am also not a firm believer in " The customers always right "

Having worked in customer service for the past 10 or more years I have seen and heard it all. And there are alot of people just trying to get one over on the business thinking they can take a loss. Wrong attitude. It comes out of somewhere. The loss doesn't just disapear. It gets eaten.

Maybe Ed felt like since the wrong parts were delivered in the first place he was somewhat responsible. Anytime I was in business on the side doing noveltys, wholesaling or what ever. I avoided this drop shipping because it brought aspects into my business that was out of my control. Yes, it would get to a bit quicker but if you get the wrong thing all I can do is say I'm sorry and give you 25% off your order and hope it doesn't happen again.

I liked having control over every aspect of my business. If I was selling something that I had made(jewerly, stainedglass) I guaranteed them for life. That means I am never really out of either one of those business. Ever! But I took pride in my work. And the people who bought from me know they will always have what they paid for. Even if the beads(silver) tarnished I would replace the whole item.

I don't know all of the inside details here but I feel that Mothertruckers went WAY above what was expected of him. There are many points to this situation and I can see some of both sides. I would be upset at getting the wrong parts and having spent all of this time trying to install them only to find out they were the wrong parts. I am not a mechanic so not sure I would have known upfront. I am loyal once I find someone I like doing business with. I sure wouldn't have sold them out for someone cheaper(thanks walmart) Where are all the mom and pop shops now???

As far as the local shopping for what you need?! I am all for that. I love instant purchase. To be able to get what you need right now. I have only been to one local place here and really didn't care for them. Tried a few times and STILL came away with the feeling like I was putting him out or inconveniencing him with questions not to mention the fact that I wasn't happy with some of the stuff I bought from him. That may very well be just how the product is made and having nothing to do with him but the lack of friendliness and the same feeling I had when I went there caused me not to go back. I wish him luck though.

Like what was already said. Even though this post started as a frustrated attempt to discredit MOTHERTRUCKERS. You did nothing but prove once again what a stand up guy he is.
Job well done.
