Re: 1965 C20 fleet side longbed DD low budget build.

So today was the big day. I pulled the 292 and put it on a stand now waiting for it to be refreshed. New lower end bearings and head gasket. Then just cleaning and paint. The cam and new lifters , and Pistons are going to have to wait. I'm going to build up funds befor I hot rod the 6 to much. So just the 4brl intake with headers and some fancy color for a while. My buddy and I moved the cab almost on our own. Had to call a friend to help me muscle it onto the frame. Worked nicely and went smoothly.

Re: 1965 C20 fleet side longbed DD low budget build.

Next was fitting the cab. Putting the bed on. And mounting one fender just for mock up because I couldn't wait. I think I may lift the body a little bit. Open up some fender space. I plan to remove the body lift I'm planning and substitute it with a suspension lift. Just need to put a few more hours of work at the job to pay for the springs.

Also liked this one of the old frame because you can see my daily driver 92 Toyota pickup for size comparison to the 65 thought it was neet. Hah. Old iron rules

Thanks Joe pass, and 61 k10. I'm really happy it's finally coming together. I always loved my truck. Now I REALLY love it. Always wanted it to be a 4x4. Guess dreams come true with a crap load of work and plenty of colorful vocabulary.

Re: 1965 C20 fleet side longbed DD low budget build.

I really like it. I have a '64 K20 that I am going to get started on soon. It is also a 292, 4sp truck. Factory running gear but most of the body is beyond repair. I have been gathering parts to put it back together with. I thought about swapping newer drive train inn but like the fact also of keeping it all original. It will be a lot slower but will pull a house down if need be.

Your is looking great....

Re: 1965 C20 fleet side longbed DD low budget build.

Thanks man. Just know to keep at it! They are worth doing right. A lot of the other guys on this site have build threads and they really can motivate ya to get off a sofa and work on the pickup. Post up a picture of us k20 I'd love to see it. I vote keep it factory. They were build like that in 65 for a reason. Why Change it. Anyone who knows 4x4s will be taken back by having the original running gear under the truck.

Re: 1965 C20 fleet side longbed DD low budget build.

Just another shot of the truck and all of its 8 foot long bed glory. Hopefully this week I can strip the engine and slap some color on it, Detroit alpine green. Working on making a 2" body lift for the truck at work from some 1/4" wall tube. Should be fairly stout. Oh and ordered new king pin bearings and races. Hope that solves my camber issue on the front axle. Thank you summit!

Smile Re: 1965 C20 fleet side longbed DD low budget build.

Did the 2.5 inch body lift. And got some freE shop floor paint with flake from my buddy at kragens. They re painted the bathroom floor at the store and had leftovers. So I happen to come in at the right time and they just gave it to me. ended up painting my floor Pan. Turned out great for free paint. it's not a bad price either... I have heard that this stuff is really durable. I still think it turned out great.
