Damn bro!!!! Glad you're alright. Kind of pissy that they would total it, but I guess that's what they felt the need to do. I'm going to miss seeing updates. What's the plan to do with the money though? Get another and recreate "Bear".

What a great tread with a sad ending, was kinda hoping the work hasn't stopped so I could look forward to updates. You sure have a lot of good info here and I wish I had a rig half as beautiful, (1/8 even). The engine swap details are going to be very helpful to me. What ever you do next, keep up the great work.

I thought I would update this thread. For 'closure' purposes.

When I swapped in the tank, I had to take out both furthest back cross members and relocate them with grade 8 hardware to fit the length of the tank. I welded angle iron to the cross members to hold the tank in place. It was actually quite crude, but worked like a charm. The straps were then strung along the bottom of the gas tank and bolted to the cross members holding the tank up. I made sure to weld the angle iron putting the tank up as high as possible, for appearance reasons.

The link that helped me out the most is here: http://www.captkaoscustoms.com/blazertank.html

Yeah it is pretty scary having that happen after all the work done. I'm still mad about mine, it's turned into a headache.

Thank you all for reading my stuff haha

Here are more pics of the truck after I bought it back from the insurance company, for a good deal of course. I parted out this poor truck, sold everything piece by piece and used or junked the rest.

Put the doors on my short bed..

Put the motor in my new truck..

And built a trailer out of what I didn't sell or use to carry my junk n' stuffs. This was the first project I did with my new Millermatic not entirely done yet.. But this is how the truck.. Or what's left of it.. Sits now.

And this is the last picture I ever took of it.

I was just curious as to where you ordered all your fuel system components. Doing the same swap, and a part number maybe for the T in the radiator hose for the steam vents.

I got the steam port T from jagsthatrun.com
I bought the 3/8" braided line, trickflow fuel filter, pump, 87+ sending unit, and all 6an fuel hose fittings from summitracing.com. you could probably source out cheaper parts, I just went with them because they're fast/reliable.

FYI on an old thread.... On my 2001 5.3 swap to TH400 there is a factory vacuum accessory port that is not used. It is on the passenger side on the intake plenum. You have to snap off the plastic plug and you can hook up 1/4" vacuum tubing to tranny or other things that need manifold vacuum.

Talking Re: 1985 GMC 4x4 LS Motor Swap, tons of pics!

I wanted you to know I was very inspired by your story. This is an amazing thread that I stumbled across while up in Spokane Washington looking for a set of fender flares for an 01 Silverado. I saw the image on this truck and couldn't help but come see what you'd done.

So you know, I have attached pictures of the truck I bought when I was 18 years old, learned how to paint and do bodywork on, and gave every bit of my love, blood sweat and tears to for close to 20 years. That truck was my life. I learned so much by modifying, caring for and repairing this truck, it put me in a terrific place for my career. This truck might look familiar to you...

As the second owner, here's how your truck began life with me.

Sorry the photos aren't better, they are 35mm film photos that have been sent through my iPhone. I'm going to keep attaching more photos of the subsequent GM trucks that I've owned because of Bear, but none of them captured my heart like this one. After I was done with my first truck, I built an 88 Suburban that I only have a couple of pictures for. I've had a lot of fun, and it's been an amazing life journey with these vehicles. GM trucks rock!

Re: 1985 GMC 4x4 LS Motor Swap, tons of pics!

I should log on here more often.
To the 2nd owner of Bear, the one who sold it to me: Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to own this truck. Bear was the best truck. I think about its influence on my life constantly. Even though an insurance company paid me a good amount for the accident, no sum of money is worth this truck and the memories that come with it. I wish I could still drive it. Bear brought me ultimate happiness while driving or broke down. I learned so much throughout owning this truck. I was always scared that you would find out I wrecked Bear. The day I bought it, I could tell Bear was something very special to you. Your care showed in every small detail of this truck. I tried giving Bear that same care. Thanks for the photos. I'll try to post more of my own.

Re: 1985 GMC 4x4 LS Motor Swap, tons of pics!

This is like a dream forum for someone who is looking for complete documentation of an LS swap into a K10--especially for someone who stubbornly insists on using long tube headers. Thank you. Also, my condolences on the loss of this truck. It is my greatest fear that something like that will happen once I finish my truck.

I have done some EXTENSIVE research trying to find a set of long tube headers that, even thought they SAY they are K10 swap headers, will actually fit. I find it kind of funny that probably the best option I found were Camaro headers. It seems like no matter which set of long tubes I get, there will need to be some sort of modification done (how hard is it to make headers that fit the vehicle they are supposed to??), and the headers you used seem like they will be the easiest and best long term.

So my question is, do you remember what brand your headers were? I am tentative to purchase Camaro headers for my K10 blindly, being that K10 specific headers all seem to each have their own unique issue. I found two options that appear to be the same; KOSpeed and blackhorse racing. They both look the same, but might be slightly different bends. Which of these two looks like the safest bet? Any info or advice is greatly appreciated.
