Re: TPI Conversion Progress/Process

Still gonna run that TPI under boost, or just NA for now?

Re: TPI Conversion Progress/Process

Initially NA, but I have a turbo sitting in the floor... I am going to get the 6.0L truck running/driving first and then probably turbo the TPI.

Sweet, lemme know how that goes -- I'm very tempted to boost mine too, seeing as I've got like 8.5:1 compression right now :P

Re: TPI Conversion Progress/Process

Friday Dec. 8th 2006: finished up on the body bushing replacement, just need to tighten up the bolts. Started the removal of the carb fuel lines so they can be replaced by the EFI lines.

Re: TPI Conversion Progress/Process

Saturday July 14th 2007: Finally got back on this... Removed all the fuel lines and the fuel pump and started on pulling the carb. Got distracted by someone selling a '87 K5, was wasted time.

Re: TPI Conversion Progress/Process

Saturday July 21th 2007: I had one last fuel/brake line clamp left from the previous week to remove. It was under the engine stand. It took me about 30-45 minutes to get it off with an combo open/box wrench. (engine still in the truck)
Pulled out the new lines and laid them out so I can get the shipping bend out, pulled the carb and had to stop to go get a family portrait.

Re: TPI Conversion Progress/Process

Monday, Aug 13th, 2007: put on the blocking plate for the fuel pump, cleaned up the TPI plenum for final assembly along with the Throttle Body pieces. Put the high pressure pump and new filter on the 87-91 Blazer sending unit. Getting ready to pull the intake manifold to start putting the TPI on the engine.

Re: TPI Conversion Progress/Process

Saturday Aug 18th, 2007 had to clean up one of the runners had some gunk still in one of them, still soaking it. Got the plenum all cleaned up and ready. Pull the top of the motor down and removed the 4 bbl intake, set the TPI base in place and got the gas tank out and realized the spare sender I had was for a deeper fuel tank, Guess I will be getting an EFI tank now.

also realized I need a sending unit piece that will allow me to use the stock sender and the EFI sensor...

Re: TPI Conversion Progress/Process

Saturday Sep 8th, 2007 Instead of getting an EFI tank I ordered a 25g sending unit for a EFI truck from Advance (PN# FG12K). Took 5 days to arrive.

Saturday Sep 15th, 2007 Took all main TPI pieces and cleaned them up and painted them over the next few days.

Re: TPI Conversion Progress/Process

Friday Sep 28th, 2007 Opened the package from S&P for the rear exit/feed and SS fuel lines along with the 9th injector elimination kit and started piecing it together. Cut the return line off and installed the rear feed connection. Found that they had not sent one of the pieces for the regulator.

Saturday Sep 29th, 2007 Painted the remainder of the TPI Parts

Re: TPI Conversion Progress/Process

Monday Oct 1st, 2007 Installed the EFI unit in the stock gas tank. Pulled out the EFI fuel lines recieved from Classic Tube and started straightening the shipping bends out.

Tuesday Oct 2st, 2007 placed the Feed and Return lines in the chassis only to discover the poor exhaust system that I had put on previously that was a POOR attempt will need to be removed from the truck and made again. This time the Turbo will be present for mockup.

Saturday Oct 6th, 2007 drilled and tapped the front feed line of the fuel rail with 1/8th in pipe tap. This was NOT fun.

Wednesday Oct 31st, 2007 Ordered some 42lb injectors

Saturday Nov 4th, 2007 Pressed in the 9th injector block off plug from S&P. This wasn't fun either

Re: TPI Conversion Progress/Process

Friday November 16th, 2007:Injectors were delivered USPS on 14th, but weren't left. I had to go pick them up at the Post office.

Saturday November 17th, 2007: got all the bolts to the manifold off, but from the shady job of building the y-pipe from some an exhaust shop (that I didn't pay for) I now have to cut the Y-pipe to get it out...

Re: TPI Conversion Progress/Process

Friday, November 30th, 2007:Picked up the 700R4 trans that need rebuilt to replace the TH350 currently in place.

Saturday December 1st, 2007:Got the fuel lines installed and clamped down short of 2 clips I would like to add on top of the missing fuel filter clamp. Put splash shield on the TPI base and then installed it. Put the S&P oil pressure tee on (for running factory sender and the TPI sender) and the thing stripped out. Yippie! Couldn't find my water outlet, have NO clue where it went so I got to get a new one. Installed the 42lb injectors in the fuel rail. Debating on whether I will run the EGR or make a block off for it.

Saturday December 2nd, 2007:Went to several parts stores to find a brass fitting that would fit under the TPI Base to replace the S&P piece, finally found the 2 I needed.

Re: TPI Conversion Progress/Process

Saturday December 8th, 2007: Pulled the intake back off to put the new brass fitting in the block for the sensors. Installed the fuel rail assembly and hooked up the rear feed fuel supply and return lines. Definitely not going to run an EGR due to no room, so I have to make a block-off for it. Ordered a water outlet.

Sunday December 9th, 2007:Picked up the water neck (gotta paint it) and then searched all local stores for the parts to rebuild the 85 TPI distributor, with no luck.

Lightbulb Re: TPI Conversion Progress/Process

Hey Chris,

If you find that other missing water neck and i assume you are talking about a thermostat housing send it out and have it jet hot coated.

For some reason i have had 3 go bad on me in the last 15 yrs my TPI has been on my truck.

I dont know if it's the material there made out of or if it's from just sitting too much.

But all of them have had holes bored through them from an electrolysis effect
Iv'e allways had good antifreez in the truck mixed @ 50/50 using distilled H2o + nothing else in the cooling sys. has had that type of problem.

So i got a new GM T-stat housing and had it coated and it's been over a year now and it seem to be holding up so far.

BTW all i see are the red-x too
