Re: Project: GOOBER, 1971 GMC
All I know is Warns design is not very good compared to these new Yukons. The teeth that lock the hubs up are entirely to small. The Yukons have a completely different design with a lot more teeth and meat in everything. Don't really think it would matter where the Warns were made when you compare the design diffences.

Re: Project: GOOBER, 1971 GMC
[I[/I]I agree with Ya', Warn hubs were never made to keep up with the torque delivered by both the HP & Huge tires (Spelled “traction”) of today’s rigs. Warn has missed the mark
They were great in their day: Warn hubs were made for the surplus WWII jeeps (that you could pick up for $35.00….. Not) I owned a 1952 M-151 top speed with hubs turned in was 35MPH and a hell of a lot mechanical hardware spinning. Warn was also known for their 2 speed overdrives, which allowed this same jeep to top out 50MPH freeway speed. Just curious if these same parts are outsourced (mfg. over sea’s) ? |

Re: Project: GOOBER, 1971 GMC
I run the normal cheap Warns on mine. I had the premiums in my Ranger and they were junk. Now that these are available, and looking at the design comparisons, this will be another item on the wish list

Re: Project: GOOBER, 1971 GMC
I just spoke with a new apprentice (co-worker of 1 ˝ yr) he is a former worker from Warn. Asked him how much work was being shipped out. His reply is that a lot is being sent to Mexico and with the Warn family recently selling the company he expects a lot more to go offshore,
PS. He confirmed Yukon are better for rough use then Warn hubs were in the best of times |

Re: Project: GOOBER, 1971 GMC
Picked up a new set of leaf springs from my buddy for the front of my rig. My old ones were worn out and bending backwards.
The new to me set has 2 extra leave in it that I left so that it will help with the extra weight of this rig and hopefully will keep them from bending backwards. Heres a comparison of a new one and a old one. After the install I gained about 1.5 inches in lift on the fron witch I think I needed. It leveled the front out and will help with my tires hitting the fenders. Next will be to get my front bump stops installed and do something with my headlights so the tires don't hit them anymore. |

Re: Project: GOOBER, 1971 GMC
I haven't changed any of the sheep metal on this one. Not sure if the grill is right or not. Finally had some time for an update though.
Decided to upgrade my headlights. I also was needing to get rid of the factory light mounts because when I would flex, with my tires turned, the tires would try to grab the metal backing plates behind the lights. So I bought some slim off road lights and made my own mounts and cut out all of the factory stuff. This pic is before they were ajusted. Now they look even and fit really well after I adjusted them. I haven't had a chance to test them much but they seem to work really well what little driving I have done. |

Re: Project: GOOBER, 1971 GMC
Built a holder for my extra gas and water jugs. Now they won't be laying over leaking all the time and my friends will have easy access to them, sence they are always needing them!

Re: Project: GOOBER, 1971 GMC
Just got a call from the powder coater and he said in order for him to do my wheels in flat white it would cost $400 just to get the powder because he would have to by a 50lb box of it and in 20 years he has never done flat white before. Therefore he didn't want to buy it for his shop and only use 5lbs for my wheels. So I guess my wheels will be done in gloss white, but I'm sure the gloss will fade with a little dirt on them.

Re: Project: GOOBER, 1971 GMC
Finally finished up the my on board air system. And added my horn with a pull chain in the cab.
And my quick connect that is easy to reach with a pressure guage. Got it set to pump up to 140psi and kicks back on at 120psi. And here is the tank that I built for it. |

Re: Project: GOOBER, 1971 GMC
We made it back from Rednecks With Paychecks. Had a few issues but for the most part went well. Not a lot of wheeling to do down there so I only have a couple pictures.
One of the rock faces we played on. And you couldn't avoid some mud. Got some video of my buddies but none of my rig. And this is video of there little creek run they had. I had some electrical issues got most of that fixed. Was trying to winch a buddies dead rig out of the rock course and melted the side post out of my optima battery. And now my winch solenoid is stuck in the on position, but I already had a new one so I just need to stick it on. Took about 2 hours to wash that nasty ass mud off the rig. Got to get it ready for the Clayton Pirate meet and greet run coming up next month. |
