Thanks! I've been using Evercoat products. The glaze is called Evercoat Metal Glaze. I'm using it over the body filler that was sanded down with 40grit and then sanding the glaze with 80 grit. Next step will be high build... Hopeful to have that done by spring.

Been gettin' after it in the shop lately. Still sanding on the interior of the cab. Had to switch gears though as I need to get some more supplies.
While waiting to get my supplies, the new rocker I ordered came in on Friday. I spent Saturday night and Sunday installing the new rocker. Finished the glaze on the inner windshield patch. Turned out pretty good. Also cleaned up the roof lip and various other little areas. The rocker I ordered was okay quality. I probably could have left it as is and it would have been decent... But going through all that work I wanted the gap to look perfect. So I cut the rocker in half as well as various pie cuts. Once I was happy with the gap, I started welding the top section back on. Pie cuts up front. I'm thinking this is pretty common on most rocker replacements. Welded and started grinding. Will finish cleaning it up this week. |

Well done sir. Looking good! I pie cut mine for sure, all over the place... One thing to remember that I didn't think about until I was done was for the front of the rocker, door gaping, you may want to hang your front fender and make sure the door and fender are good with spacers if you use them.
I hung my doors the way they were from PO and there were no spacers in door or fender. So when I finished both my rockers I noticed that the doors are sunk into the frame pretty far and need spacers to push them out which means my rockers are going to be sunk in depending on how far I space out my doors, and then the fenders will need spacers too probably. I dread the fact I may need to cut up my rockers again... Are you going to spot weld the top inside edge of the rockers to the floor pan or are you just welding the surrounding edges?

Friday night I finished up welding the tailgate holes. Spent Saturday morning getting everything prepped and then spraying primer for the tailgate and cab floor. Had to spend a little time with the DA getting rid of some surface rust.
Tailgate prepped for primer. Floor in primer. Will eventually get a sound deadener installed. Next is to flip the cab. Tailgate in primer. Pretty sure I'm going to bolt the handle relocate in. Misc. Items Starting slinging mud on the tailgate. Fingers crossed all that effort will show at the end. Ran out of time to make a lot of progress. Hopeful to hit it hard the next couple of weekends. |

Not a lot of progress. Finally moved back home after an out of town job for work all summer. It's been a busy week back getting caught up on things a neglected around the house. Managed to squeeze an hour in the shop here and there. Finished with the body filler and now onto the skim coat and 80grit.

Ouch, I feel like a selfish jackwagon lol. Well maybe not that bad. My wife is dealing with a lot right now. She will be getting a vacation when I finish my truck to say the least . That tailgate is gonna be sweet when you finish scurry. Can't wait to see it done!

I decided it was time to switch gears. The tailgate still needs some work. It's far from perfect, but hopefully it'll do the job.
Set the tailgate aside and started mudding my driver door. I got it roughed in for the time being. I won't finish it up until I hang the doors again. Last weekend I had some buddies over and took advantage of it. I had them help me flip the cab onto the firewall. From there I started cleaning up the bottom of the cab. I had some random pin holes to fill from when I was doing floor patches. Also removed some old seam sealer where the floor pan overlaps the firewall. New seam sealer went in right behind it after it was cleaned up. Welded up driver rocker/cab corner as well. The previous cab owner welded up the bench seat frame holes and had used a different seat. I plan on using a bench seat from a 68, so I was able to remove the welds and run a thread cutter through the bracket nuts to get it cleaned up and functional again. Lastly, I put a couple coats of epoxy primer on it. I realize it's not perfect and my welded seams standout. I figure it won't matter too much because it'll never really be looked at. I'll throw some undercoating on later this weekend or early next week before I get the cab flipped back over. That should help mask the weld seams. Tailgate with glaze sanded with 80grit Cleaned up the shop to switch gears. I will be doing similar, sound dampner, and I'm also planning to use closed cell foam on back wall too. Did you blast the grill or sand it manually?

Back at it again. Heading in a couple directions right now. From my parts pickup, I have an original SWB fleetside bed that is in decent condition. There seemed to be only minor dents in it that the previous owner attempted to remove before using some body filler.
I used a grinder and chisel to remove the rusted bolts from the rear fender.... What a PIA! I finished the passenger side. After analyzing the inside of the fender, I was a tad nervous with all the rust up in there. After debating on what to do, I decided to split the fender skins to take care of it. I figure it's the best time to do it while I can. I could only find a few threads on here about it, so I'm guessing it's going to take a bit of time to do it right. What I did read was it is a TON of spot welds to drill out. I purchased a couple decent spot weld bits and a seam buster tool and got after it! Here is the first night doing the top rail mainly. It definitely takes some time and touch to find all the spot welds. Here is a picture of the skins split. I did a quick count of about 65 spot welds (plus a couple extra that I thought were spot welds ) Also... Just when you think you have all the spot welds drilled out, there are definitely more lol. I spent an hour trying to find the last couple. They ended up being ones on top of the bed rail. This was the one area I didn't see any of the other threads had mentioned. You can see they were pretty rusted. I'm going to start cleaning up the rust and either POR 15 it or epoxy prime them (depending on if I can clean all that rust up. Then continue on the other side and hammer/dolly the minor dents. Getting going on the frame is on the agenda too. Hopefully get it to the sand blaster in the coming weeks so I can start working on it this winter. |

Wow man, great job. That's a ton of work. Cool to see those split and to see all that rust scares me a bit lol. So Eastwood makes this Internal frame coating that stops rust. It comes in aerosol cans with long tubes that spray in all directions. I used it on my cab, sprayed it in the roof panel and all down the pillars, and inside the floor supports. I hope I can use it between these bed skins now after seeing your come apart.... Great work man keep it up!

Yes that is truly getting at the rust. For this reason I am considering removing the roof off my cab and replace it. That way I can see what it looks like in there and stop the rust from getting to the inside because it's there and I know it. This proves it. The rust alway comes from the inside out.
