Re: Ran 11.44 @117.69mph
Yea, it's a tad heavy for a glide. How tall of a tire do you run? I run 4.86's but I run 1/4 mile. I have 32" tall tires. While hitting the N20 You need to load the engine...lower SLR (staring line ratio)(1st gear ratio times rear gear ratio)will help. With the stroke of your SBC I would look at taller tires or 4.30 gear ratio while spraying.

Re: Ran 11.44 @117.69mph
Every time I look at the front I know it...It drives me nuts... We were looking at a nova front half...should be pretty simple to swap. I just spent a ton on drop spindles and front disc's.

Re: Ran 11.44 @117.69mph
Jim, I run a 31" tall tire. You are correct; you definitely need a lower starting line ratio when spraying. I guess I'm trying to figure out the better way to achieve it. I'll probably end up putting the 4.10s in it and trying that.
Talking about the Fatman front-ends, that is also something I'd like to do. It's going to have to wait a while, though. Got too many other things to buy first. |

Re: Ran 11.44 @117.69mph
I don't know about anyone else, but I'd say that 6.00s in an old Chevy truck that can be street-driven is pretty quick!
Since I already have the 4.10 gear set, I'll probably try them first and see what happens. |

Re: Ran 11.44 @117.69mph
My truck is barely streetable it has a race weight glass nose and doors! It also is 14 to 1 so gas would be rough!

Re: Ran 11.44 @117.69mph
Your truck is for sure at another level, Jim's truck has to be pretty close also. I'd like to get my roll bar, few more race parts, hood etc. maybe alluminum bed and that will be it for me. 10's is as far as I'm going, can't be bothered with all the hastle of 9's, next time my motor is out I'll likely change it into a 540. I want to run low 10's on motor, loose the nitrous ( it will be there for show ) and at the weight I'm at going to need a bit more oomff. Maybe fuel injection.

Re: Ran 11.44 @117.69mph
Mine is a 3"DOM custom job. I used a long tailshaft th400 and move the engine back 4 inches to be able to go one piece.

The support you have Does it bolt up in the same place as the factory one or did you have to make somthing?

Re: Ran 11.44 @117.69mph
I have a 4-link setup, it has a custom cross member and the support fastens side to side, if that makes sense to you.

Thanks I forgot about the four link. By the way I gotta say your truck and the others in this thread are some badass trucks. I think seeing one of your videos got the idea in my head to race my truck. thanks

Re: Ran 11.44 @117.69mph
Franks72, I changed my driveshaft from the factory 2-piece to a 1-piece. I had twisted a couple of slip-yokes on the 2-piece and had gotten tired of that, so I had a 3 1/2" 1-piece shaft built. I had to do some clearancing to the hole in the crossmember that held the carrier brg., but nothing major. Pretty well a bolt-in swap.

Re: Ran 11.44 @117.69mph

Re: Ran 11.44 @117.69mph
I wanted to get a 1 piece, but nobody wanted to build one that long, they said it wouldn't hold up.

Re: Ran 11.44 @117.69mph
I think that the 2-piece shafts are stronger than a lot of people think. I always heard jokes from my buddies when we were at the track about seeing parts of driveshafts coming out from underneath my truck on a pass, but it never happened, and I went some 6.70s in the 1/8 with that setup. I finally got nervous enough about it and put the 1-piece in it.

Re: Ran 11.44 @117.69mph
Mine has been good so far, hope it holds up. It is made of heavy duty 1350 series parts and makes the stock shaft look like a tooth pick.

Re: Ran 11.44 @117.69mph
71, if you're running 1350-series parts, then you're definitely running better stuff than I was. All I ever ran was the factory stuff. About every 2 years or so, I'd put a carrier brg., u-joints, and a slip yoke in it. Never had any trouble out of it.

Re: Ran 11.44 @117.69mph
I have the old one out of my camaro in it right now but I have to get the other one redone to be able to spray it! This one seems to run about the same but I don't want to kill this one!
