Re: 1978 Russet Metallic 4x4
10-4. Mine did the same thing, they were original to the truck though. When I had them apart to paint them, I soaked the base gaskets, grommets and sleeves in hot water and Dawn dish soap then cleaned them. They stay put now. If yours are new, dirt probably isn't the issue - maybe take the sleeves off and tape some skateboard tape in place instead? That should grip good.

What I did was take mine apart, and then transfer the GM rubber, and the GM base plate over to my LMC mirrors. They now work fantastic and do not move at all on their own! I will post a few pictures over in my blazer thread, but I couldn't be happier with the results. It seemed like the rubber that GM used was a completely different product. It was also about 1/2 the size of the LMC rubber which was surprising. The GM base plates also fit the shaft much better and have more of a "wrap" on the mirror stem. Phillip |

Depends. Mine were brand new. It's the nature of lead springs that they may need some adjustment.

Re: 1978 Russet Metallic 4x4
I can't begin to describe how much I like this K5
I have always LOVED the plaid interiors. It's very refreshing to see people taking the time to revive them (or accurately recreate them as you did) rather than pitching the seats and installing basic LMC-type covers or going with another type altogether. I don't think SMC used to have the fabric in stock. Maybe they did and I just didn't ask the right questions. Oh well, making a thousand mile drive to get plaid seats in my trusty old Burb is a trip that will always be remembered. I'm curious about the dash pad and door panels that you had refreshed. Does it look original around the screw holes in the door panels and does the dash pad have the correct looking center speaker opening?

Any shots of the Ram-Jet? I've had 2 of those engines and they are fantastic. They really don't get the credit they deserve in my opinion.

Phillip: Not much to see. The aluminum intake has surface corrosion. I'm gonna send the computer out to get a better flash soon. Your truck is looking fantastic.

These are the guys I'm gonna try out: http://www.mefiburn.com/ramjettuning.asp
O2 sensors are great unless they're giving you hell. Could be cheaper too. |

Re: 1978 Russet Metallic 4x4
Knocks the dust off the back glass. Old glass was replaced because it was scratched to hell. The dust will just accumulate on the rubber and tear things up.

Re: 1978 Russet Metallic 4x4
I found a good product for the rear aluminum panel on the Blazer. Mine had the normal chalky oxidation that looks dull and crappy.
I used this: And now it looks like this: Also, got this Tom Wood's CV Driveshaft with Shims in the other day. Need time to install: Last edited by buffydores; 07-19-2017 at 03:06 PM. |

I understand as I have 3 kids myself. C10's in the Park is a great family friendly one day event. We just chilled out and talked with a bunch of old and new friends.

Re: 1978 Russet Metallic 4x4
OK Folks: Working on some new additions. I currently have the rims in for powdercoat. The painted silver was already showing some rust. No bueno.
I just ordered some Sunflower Yellow Pinstriping Vinyl in 1/4" and 3/8" sizes to change the trim from black to sunflower yellow. By the way Phillip, I "am" using some of the factory pins on my trim. Brain fart there. I'm still using all the hex nut attachments. I also ordered some 1/4" Orange HDPE to fabricate a tailgate guard to end the inevitable scratches when it's down. I went ahead and ordered a B&M 12-Bolt Cover to increase the volume of fluid for the gears. My pinion angle is sitting at 14.5 degrees, so it was making me a hair nervous. Probably overkill. Ordered a ARB Power Port for the back to run my ARB Cooler. Also purchased the Dorman Parts to run it as a standard Cigarette Lighter Power Port. Finally, I'm upgrading the factory AC with a kit from Original Air. I'll add pictures as things are installed. Last edited by buffydores; 04-25-2017 at 02:14 PM. |
