My wife drove the truck AND used it for her work yesterday hauling some crates. 100% improvement on the Dart I traded away. Chevy's only now baby!

Chevyrestoguy- the tailgate is awesome. It takes a bit to get it set up and working, but well worth it. part of the problem was the truck didn't have a gate on it when I went to pick it up. I thought it got stolen and just wrote it off as me needing to find one, spray it and toss it on---wrong. The PO had the jambs filled and the back section of the bed was so misaligned that the port-a-power broke the welds loose at the lower pillars and I had to refinish the whole area. It didn't have a gate because one wouldn't fit. |

Read up on several threads regarding tilt columns. It does make a difference what year you get. I used a van column, but I didn't get the collapsible section. I recommend getting the collapsible section to make life easier. I ended up cutting the factory shaft at the lower column end and retaining the box end. I used a piece of square stock as a slip and welded everything together once the column was mounted and the stock shaft cut a few inches short and bolted to the gear.
I placed the interior section as close to the dash as I could to get enough room for comfortable driving. This worked great and having a tilt to get out and tilt to put lower to rest you hand in different positions id awesome. I think this will be our new road trip rig! / / / / / I was able to reuse thee factory clamp at the firewall instead of reversing it to the interior like some had done / |

Spent the rest of the morning overhauling the cluster again. this time I added my Ebay vacuum gauge score and the 60's football tach that was hose clamped to the column when I got the truck. No animals or early tach's were damaged during this procedure. I was wanting a factory tach , but after mounting this one I think it's kinda cool being period correct and behind the cluster vs on the column. I left the pointers out for a cleaner look.

You are close enough I can keep an eye out for one. They range from $50-$100 up here. Being 6'4" and 250 I don't smack my knee anymore and don't think I will mod the seat now that I have tons of room behind the wheel.

Thanks for the support guys, it's come a long way in 4 weeks. Life, a wife, 4 dogs and a full time job make it tough to whip through it as fast as some of these guys do! I read through some of these threads and are humbled by the skill set we have on the forum, craftsman for sure.

Glad I took time to read, & I'll continue to follow along. Haven't been in the build section much lately, so I'm just now catching up on yours. You've been hauling a$$ on this thing, . You started with a nice truck, but I agree with a little too much orange. You've done a nice job at breaking it up with your attention to detail using the various trim pieces & color coding. Just curious why you didn't opt for period correct hubcaps? The ones you have look great though. Looking forward to your continued progress, & the wifey should no doubt be proud to drive that thing!

Likarock13 .....I used the later caps because I thought the smooth transition showcased the bowtie better with the flip flop colors and chrome. I saw them used on C10kings pumpkin truck and had to have them. They just look smoother and still say stock. I do like the OG ones, but my wife also liked these when I showed here several options. We all know a happy Wife means a happy life! |

Take some detailed pics of how and where you taped for spraying the linex ie bolt holes, wood where the strips go and so on maybe kinda do a write up how to.
