Re: Slick Copper's Build Thread

Took these today! Don't know if you noticed but it is turned around! Drove it up the street and back, but after it warmed up, it started running bad. Name: Photo0395.jpg

Covered it up. Just for the heck of it.

Size: 45.9 KBStill gotta figure some stuff out. It also was backfiring and would never get above 2000 rpm. Soon as it would it would choke out, backfire and idle back down. Agrivating! Played around with the timing, but never seemed to get it right. So even if I get it timed, I'm not sure that's the problem. I'm thinking it's about time for my intake, exhaust, and carburator. Maybe not though, anyone got an idea?

Re: Slick Copper's Build Thread

IT LIVES!!!!! BWAH HA HA HA!!!! Ole Copper fired up today! I got some pics, but'll have to post 'em later! Got everything on the engine wired up, timed and gave 'er a crank and soon as she got gas she fired right up. Still, gotta get it timed just right, but man that HEI is a HUGE difference!
Now I'm trying to figure out the radiator. Bought a new one today via AutoZone, and it's the bigger four core radiator with built in tranny cooler. Which'll be nice, but trying to figure out how to make it fit, it's bigger than the original stocker. Was hoping to be driving it around by now, but guess I'm gonna have to wait. Anyone know an easy fix? Swap out brackets?

Cool! Congratulations!!!

I cannot be 100% sure but you could should be able to use the 4 core factory upper and lower brackets.

Thanks! Yeah, that's what it's looking like. Also probably a new fan spacer as well, the fan is only 1/8 - 1/4 inch away from the new huge radiator!!

So glad to get it running! Just ordered my new radiator support brackets from LMC truck. Couldn't find any used ones, so got new ones on the way! I just pray they're of good quality! I think I'll have to post these pics on the straight six thread too!

Re: Slick Copper's Build Thread

Great job on the engine bay! I'd try to get it running better before swapping more out, because it's harder to diagnose once you have more things thrown into the mix. That being said, the carb could be one thing causing you issues...so it could end up being worth it to do the swap...

Well that cleared things up!
I know what you mean though, could cause me more trouble, but at least I could eliminate those things

Re: Slick Copper's Build Thread

BTW someone told me it wasn't a good idea to have my glass fuel filter right above my exhaust manifold. It's not sitting right on it, it's about 2 inches up from it. Anyone think this is actually a problem? And why?

Re: Slick Copper's Build Thread

heat could shatter the glass bowl and fuel would leak evrywhere and could potentially start a fire and your trucks to good to have everything burnt crispy under there

the glass fuel filters have a tendency to break anyways...also could at the minimum cause the fuel to boil...which could be a reason for the running issues once warm....

My old neighbors 36 chevy burned to the ground a few years back, fire chief told him they see lots of fires caused by those glass fuel filters

As much as I've heard about these I'm gonna take it off before driving it anymore. Thanks for reminding me!

Re: Slick Copper's Build Thread

Got me one of those fancy memberships! Need to sell some stuff! Should I post it somewhere else or just here on my build thread or both?
But for now I'll go on and say I got a set of 6 lug rallies 15x8 up for sale with the trim rings for $60 plus whatever shipping. I have polished the rings they look nice, the wheels are solid, just need a little cleanup/paint. Didn't want to paint them 'cause someone might want a different color!
Also have a 67 SWB parts/project c-10 body and frame up for sale. Asking $1,000 and includes many spare parts.
Will be taking pics and posting wherever I'm supposed to.
