Re: My Blue 1957 build

You guys ever have questions or need parts you should look up Walton Fabrication in Upland, Ca. Been very helpful with my questions and he is a distributor for alot of the name brand stuff ie. TCI, CPP, Currie and more.

Made a fine discovery

Here is the bottom of the passenger door

I guess the door skin is bad too

Re: My Blue 1957 build

Did a little work today after actually going to work. I got the drivers door off. Need to to clean paint off the bottom to see how it looks. Looking on the inside of door shell it looks alot straighter then the passenger door. Started filling in the gas filler hole and ground down the last of the welds on the firewall.

Re: My Blue 1957 build

Went to the shop today to pick up some more parts and decided i really dont like how the vintage air surefit kit fits into the firewall. I spent time filling in a bunch of holes that werent going to be used and turned around and put a few back in it that are all spread out. So i was talking to the guys checking out an install and it looks like i will be able to use one of the nice aluminum bulkheads to clean everything up and just switch to flexible lines.

Re: My Blue 1957 build

Got my gas tank mounted. Had to fill some hole on the frame and drill out new ones. Had to drill out new holes on tank as well. There holes in flanges were too wide. So i centered them to frame rails.

Re: My Blue 1957 build

tank looks good.
plan for failure when you plumb the tank.
think of how you will pull the tank with the bed in place.
i used a one foot piece of braided flex off the tank so i could disconnect both lines to the tank from underneath
both lines originate at the top of the tank
i've had to drop my tank 4 times so far, i could do it in my sleep

No it will be lowered. It has reversed eyed main leafs and i think two leafs were pulled out way back when. I may pull another leaf out and add some length to the rear shackle.

thats what i am going to figure out this weekend. Going to throw the front clip on and set the bed on to get some weight on it and see how it sits. the front will stay the same with the struts that are bolted in. If i use a 2" drop spindle that will lower the front cross member to 4 1/4" of clearance. These arent the rims or tires i plan on running either. That will also make a difference.

Re: My Blue 1957 build

I hung some steel to see how it would look. Going to try to get my measurements for rims and tires and probaly still drop it with the spindles in the front and 4" in the rear.

Re: My Blue 1957 build

Great project. Looks really good. I am starting to get unmotivated with my 57. I am pretty close to where you are except the engine. Need to start a forum to get some ideas. Thanks Blue 57 for giving me motivation to get back in the build.

I hear ya. It is rough sometimes, trying to do as much as i possibly can, but do it right so i dont spend an arm and a leg. Seems like i handle one thing and i find something else that needs attention or needs to be completely replaced.

Re: My Blue 1957 build

looking good blue57
i'd hold off on drop spindles. you still have a lot of weight to add to the front end before your done.
interior, hood, grill, door glass, fluids, etc; all add weight and will bring it down. a lot.
plus your coil overs will work in after a few hundred miles.
the back end will drop a little too, but your going to have some rake on it from back to front.
if you want it level you will need to flip your rear axle and c-notch the frame, flipping the axle will drop you approx 7"

Re: My Blue 1957 build

Flip that rear axle and do a little c notch and you are sure to be low enough like Ogre said.
