Re: I thought this was a pretty cool find (72 Cheyenne Super shortwide big block)....

[QUOTE=jocko;5128091]is it my inagination or is that a drum/drum master cylinder? Weren't disks standard on the front in 72? (i.e. they look like same size reservoirs front/back - compare to samrasmea's engine photo - and you can see the diff sized master cyl reservoir cap compared to this one). Just curious.

Hey y'all, forgive me for draggin up an oldie but a goodie thread - but am still curious about the master cylinder question above - anyone? anyone? Bueller?
Ha, thanks!

The booster/master cylinder looks correct to me. I believe it to be a Delco/Moraine. The Bendix set-up has a different looking master cylinder and could be what you are thinking of.

Yeah, it looks correct to me also - but I am just not sure why the lid "looks" like it's over top of same-size reservoirs (i.e. usually the cap bulges mimic the reservoir sizes) - and stock 72s had disks so assumed the mc res cap should have unequal size bulges. I might be smokin crack though, who knows. Thanks Dan, at least I know someone else thinks it's correct lookin. I agree.

I would say it is about 50/50 on which MC was used.

Re: I thought this was a pretty cool find (72 Cheyenne Super shortwide big block)....

well, hmmm. Thanks for posting, that answers, yet clouds, the issue! But they were ALL front disk brake trucks? I'd love to see the inside of one of the same-size reservoir liddded masters. I GUESS you could also make up for the difference with 1/4 & 3/16 line vice 1/4" all the way around and that could lead the factory back to same size reservoirs (or not). Or perhaps the brake light switch became a prop valve in 72 and that has something to do with it? I'm stumped. I just assumed (bad idea, I know) that all the 72-up front disk brake standard equipment trucks would have a master cylinder like you show in your red/white big block truck - the lower right corner pic.

EDIT: My comment below is in reference to the original topic of this thread, not any of the others that arose with. As far as the other truck not having a SPID goes, anyone who would pay a that money without knowing enough to at least see a SPID (as well as other ways to authenticate) should be as angry with themselves as the one who misrepresented. The phrase "more money than sense" comes to mind

I used to buy trucks like this for good money and most people didn't get it. Well optioned, original paint, and, unrestored is prime as it gets. If I bought it I would fix what's wrong and replace what's missing with matching original parts. Then, leave it just as it is with those wheels, etc. to have a survivor mild custom truck like we saw in the '70s. A true time capsule

I agree you gotta start somewhere. I have only had one issue on eBay and that seller had 100% feedback with over 600 items sold then just decided to one day start ripping people off. Thank God for buyer protection.

Re: I thought this was a pretty cool find (72 Cheyenne Super shortwide big block)....

I know that you are honest, but the fact is the feedback system is a gauge of trust worthiness. There are a lot of people running scams on ebay or selling junk. When spending that kind of money feedback is important, fair or not.

Fact is someone with 200 or more feedback is going to get more bids than someone with less than 10. Just the way it is.

On Craig s list, where there is no feedback, the buyer gets to examine the product before paying. If you want max $$ for your item you are selling on ebay, you may want to offer the bidder the option of walking away if the item is not all you say it is.

Again, I'm not doubting your trust worthiness or honesty at all, just saying the general buying public on ebay will judge you by your feedback, that's what it's there for. ..:-)

Re: I thought this was a pretty cool find (72 Cheyenne Super shortwide big block)....

Hey guys, just FYSA, the owner of this truck called me today - it's still for sale. It's a nice truck, but I'm pokin around for a 3/4 tonner these days - so just wanted to let you swb super fans know it's still available - he's a nice gent, just doesn't do computers. He's still technically asking $12K, but I know for a fact he'll take 10. I don't know his bottom dollar, but he's very motivated to sell. I drove up to vegas to look at it several months ago - and almost bought it, but decided to hold off - and now that I'm lookin for a 3/4T (and selling my 66 to make some room...) I can't justify getting this nice old truck.

Anyhoo - just wanted to update this truck's status in case anyone is interested. I do know the guy, but only because I've spoken to him when I was looking for a SWB - I'm not selling it or advertising it for him - just pointing it out to you all if you're interested. Good honest guy and he has all the p'work for this truck. It is the original engine also, I checked the numbers when I was there. He has no email, just a phone. Ken 702-873-9944

Mods - I hope it's ok to post this - again, I'm not trying to sell or help sell this truck, just pointing it out like I would a cool craigslist find in case anyone is interested. Pls let me know if that's a party foul and I'll gladly delete this post.

Thanks,
Jocko

Without seeing it in person, that truck certainly looks like it's worth 10-12k IMO.

Re: I thought this was a pretty cool find (72 Cheyenne Super shortwide big block)....

i saw it in person, and I agree. It comes with the original valve covers (2 sets I think) and some new side trim in the box. He has the original bb air cleaner also. Probably should've mentioned that earlier.

It isn't running though, and that was a detractor for me. One of the reasons I hesitated. But if I were still on the hunt for a super swb, I'd buy this one today for $10k. Just me though. They are hard to come by and the mileage is correct I believe (about 55K if I recall - he had plenty of documentation with the truck that led me to believe him that it was original anyway).

I almost forgot, I have a few other pics from when I went to visit - here they are in case it helps someone:

a few more (not it has the smog pump bracket for a/c mount and smog pump is missing. Not that anyone cares, but it took me a while to figure that out (with the help of some folks on here).

Re: I thought this was a pretty cool find (72 Cheyenne Super shortwide big block)....

nope, i asked him to and he said he was afraid to turn it over after it's been sitting for so long. Like I said, I was hesitant - at least until I visited in person. He's a pretty old fella, just wants to get rid of it I think. I told him if HE took the risk and squirted some oil down the cylinders and tried to at least crank it over, he'd probably sell it much quicker.

Probably something to ask him directly, I don't want to speak for him - but yes, this was definitely an issue in my mind. Worst case, there wasn't even a crankshaft in it... Best case, it was fine and just needed to be lubed up and freshened. It's a risk though. Hard one to stomach for $10K I believe, but over to the buyer to decide. Truck was bone dry - he has not kept oil in it because it was leaking is what he told me. Yep, lots of big questions pop up in one's mind when you hear things like that. Highly recommend inspect in person for a truck in this shape. But it is a nice, low mile, failry rare original truck, and the 70's pinstripes come with it for free!

Lots of folks mentioned earlier to just freshen up and drive the wheels off. Personally, I think this is better a candidate for a full resto. Would be worth a lot when done. It's the onlyh super I've ever seen with Po3 hubcaps on the SPID! (which I prefer to full wheel covers). It's been sitting for so long though that you'd perhaps uncover a new problem every week just freshening it up as you go. Don't know, I'd probably try that route first, but I also (personally) wouldn't buy unless considering/accepting I'd do a full resto SOME time down the line on it - maybe sooner than later out of necessity. It certainly deserves it, very original.

The underside was dry, but looks like it hadn't been touched since 72. When I say dry, I mean dry. As in no lubrication at all for a long time probably.

I don't think the motor has turned over in ages, if that's what you mean. It's certainly worth a call though to see what you think. He'll talk your leg off, good old guy. He's a car/truck guy, has a few other cool old rods laying around his place, but this was the only truck.

Well, if no one is going to step up to the pump then, I GUESS I WILL!
hehehe. i bought it yesterday. and cant wait to get it! jocko was very helpfull in the decision making. I THANK YOU SIR! i have been looking for a few years for a true "super- big block". and now i have found one even documented!
my plans are to remove the trim, clean up the body, buff it out, and re install the trim. adding any pcs that are missing.then clean up the interior, new seat cover ,carpet, ect. i hope to get the engine running and fix all leaks. then enjoy it. after a few years of collecting "nos " stuff i will treat it to a body off, frame up restoration. so.. what do you think?

again....(( I thank you jocko! ))

You're very welcome Dave - Ken's a great guy, glad I was able to connect the two of you. This is a SWEEET little truck, and your plans sound exactly like I was hoping to do with it had I bought it (therefore, you have excellent taste!) Good luck, looking forward to progress pics. Congrats.

Nice truck indeed...I am partial to the ochre/parchment combo, lol. The seat in that condition can reflect low mileage; my barn find truck had a seat in similar shape. The brake and gas pedal on this truck do not look very worn to me when zooming in on the picture.
