Not running just yet, i am waiting on the wiring gutters, since i am rewiring for the HEI distr. i thought i would go ahead and install the new gutter (rubber channel that holds the engines wiring harness). Also got a new external voltage regulator and wiring harness.
I need the shift linkage that mounts to the motor. I have also been installing the pulleys and brackets. I have those done but i am still in need of a radiator hose and belts. Once those are installed and the left header i should be able to crank her up!!!

I picked up a gallon of Rage body filler and a tube of metal glaze. Once shes running, i plan on attacking the bed, i have all new bolts and nutz for it. However the wood maybe the last thing i do before or after i paint. I think i should paint the bed before i install the new wood. I hope to have it all painted before the end of the year..... Keyword is HOPE lol

Thanks for the compliment on the paint.

Re: First Timers Build/Super Stock 70 Step

Wire gutters are in and installed, I keep getting this feeling to take the fenders off and inner fedners and just start basting them. LOL I gotta stayed focused..... Still working with the Z-bar linkage. One more cut should do the trick. Headers are mounted except for the left side. I'm want enough room as possible to work with the clutch linkage. Once thats on it will be time to fire it up!!!!

Re: First Timers Build/Super Stock 70 Step

okay ran into a little problem but i think its all fixed now, went to move the motor forward so that the headers would fit and better clearance in general. Had to track down the frame mounts for the motor mounts. They are installed the headers are bolted in. Got a two row radiator installed. ive got an issue with the bolts not fitting the water pump shaft for the pulling i bought course and fine threaded neither work. wiring is all down. the only thing preventing this puppy from firing up is the water pump pulley. still needs a drive shaft but i will have that tomorrow i hope, ive got to search thur about 100 drive shafts to find the right one. Also need to add oil and the filter. i will add photos soon. oh and i broke the alt mounting bolt in the head gonna have to fix that tomorrow too.

Re: First Timers Build/Super Stock 70 Step

So i took the truck for a run down to my parents house this past weekend. Truck did well. I guess the short test drives around town help me settle any concerns i had. Here is the fender i got from Shannon (board member). I welded up the molding hole and applied some body filler. this was my first attempt at welding. I throw down some primer on it today and wrap and store it. I striped the fender down by hand and the other fender i plan on using some metal treatment and priming it as well. My plan is to attack the bed first and work my way forward. So here is another pic of last week at the dirt track. I've been bitten by the race bug too. Another expense hobby!

Re: First Timers Build/Super Stock 70 Step

wow its been almost a year since my last post! Well truck hasnt been driven much. i tore the front sheet metal off and installed the new stuff repaired the core support and jambed the fenders. i need to take a photo of it.

goofin around

why am i sandin everything down to the bare metal????

im not sure, maybe i want to see if there is any filler on there or i want a feeling that the paint is going to have something good under it. This primer is okay i guess, its not to expensive.

Hey Joel,

Good to see that you're still hanging around. I hope those fenders are working out for you. Look forward to seeing you at our next get together.

Re: First Timers Build/Super Stock 70 Step

i picked up some etch primer today for the 58 fenders, went to harbor freight this weekend and picked up some toys. got a siphon sandblaster they were out of the big tank one. I picked up some black diamond sand from TSC for 8 bucks. I hosed down the hood latch. Did pretty good, and made a big ole mess.

Re: First Timers Build/Super Stock 70 Step

got the new air compressor hooked up and running, man what you can get done with steady air! 100 gallon 5 horsepower JennyAir. Got the fenders sanded down for the 58. also used a cutting wheel to cut loose the step side. also sanded the back panel of the cab. heres a few photos.
