Re: Your favorite thing about a 60-66?
What I like is that after it setting for 20 years being abandoned and putting a battery and new gas in it she fired. Also the old dash lights all lit up when im driving it at night during the summer. Make it feel like shes back in her prime. If only she ran that way all the time haha

Re: Your favorite thing about a 60-66?
I have to agree with most people, I love the roof line and the overhang. I also like the simplicity of the trailing arm rear suspension..
Also not to mention the thick metal they used on the body, its solid!!!

Re: Your favorite thing about a 60-66?
The "Apache" feel with the 60-63 suburbans, arrow head inner door panel design, and the tail lights too!...also those lean forward A-pillars, they look fast just sitting there.. oh and the squared off or flat top wheel openings,....BAD!

It's a classic American truck, and it isn't a Ford.....enough said.

Perhaps it's my age... older is too old, and newer is too new. 60-66's just feel right.

Re: Your favorite thing about a 60-66?
We've had a 63 since I was 8 or 9. Grew up in the truck, learned to drive in the truck...here I am 33 (man time flies) and still using my current 63 as a daily driver. Whats not to love? The reliablity is there, the classic lines are there, the 50 year old truck smell is there...there are so many options. I love the 1st gen c-10's because its such a great combination of the 50 and 60's and you can even see the influences into the 70's. Love driving and owing one best of all and all the great people I have met here and other sites, the knowledge thats been shared and the timeless pics of trial and error all because of the 60-66 trucks.

Re: Your favorite thing about a 60-66?
That I own and get to drive one!
Wow, after reading through all of these answers, I just don't think I can say anything more or better about the truck itself. So many people hit my feelings exactly for how I feel every time I see one. There really isn't any other truck that can compare (not saying anything bad about any other truck). Ditto on all of the above, especially the roof line, and the fact that there isn't another one at every intersection...

Re: Your favorite thing about a 60-66?
I love everything I've learned while working on mine. I am a sucker for learning, and this project has certainly filled the role of teacher.
I love (sometimes) all the mistakes that I've made on my truck and knowing that there are always things to go back and improve.

Re: Your favorite thing about a 60-66?
Sinse I started driving this truck is currently my third, first one 65 sb, second 66 lb, then a break with a 77 for a while, then out of the blue I sold it, wife thought I was going out to buy a new truck, so off I went never did tell her that I wasn`t, came home four hours later with the current `64, well the cloud of smoke that enveloped the truck, leaking oil, and god only knows what was coming out of the radiator when I showed up on the driveway, she came running out to see what all the racket was, I was grinning from ear to ear. Never heard the end of it....

Re: Your favorite thing about a 60-66?
"1960 - 1966 Chevrolet & GMC Pickups.. Don't crush em, restore em"
Personally I like all the 1960-1966 Chevy/GMC Trucks. Now the 1960-1963 are my personal favorites due to the wrap around windshields and double hump dashes. Stepsides are my preference over Fleetsides. My favorite grills are 1960-1961 grill/dual headlights. If anyone has a 1960 anodized aluminum grille and wanna swap a '62 anodized aluminum grille.. I might swap if she is in good condition. I like the 1960-1961 Chevy hoods... call me crazy The only appearance to differentiate between the 1960 and 1961 trucks were that the parking light ovals were open around the spinners in 1961 where as in the 1960 models this area was entirely closed. I like the extra trim packages that the GMC's had. Chevy got stingy a few years. I like the GMC 62-66 Hoods due to the cat eye park lights. I can go on and on... I agree with alot of you on this. My truck was my first automobile since High School. So that will be 19 years that I have owned my truck. Next year will be ( 20 years ) that I have had my baby. Around NC/SC the 1973–1987, 1967-1972, and 1955-1959 trucks are very popular here. For years you did not see hardly any of 1960-1966 Chevy or GMC's. They are slowly getting popular again. I liked the body lines as well as the overall design. The wrap around windshields remind me of the First generation-C1 Chevrolet Corvette (1953–1962) and double hump dashes remind me of the second generation-C2 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. (1963–1967)

Re: Your favorite thing about a 60-66?
I was a 60's vw guy for 25+ years I loved the simplicity of them but cool. The c10's take that simplicity and coolness to another level. With the bugs you do get bitten but the c10's have me worse, can't get enough of them.

Re: Your favorite thing about a 60-66?
One time I was in my truck on the way to to pick my girlfriend up at the time to go out on a romantic date... in a good mood....with the windows down.... side vents open.... arm propped up on the door.... wind blowing on me... sound of the motor growling.... it was perfect.... until.... until...
Yes... A Big Ole Bumble Bee hit my side vent... hit me slap on the face at 55mph.... stung the out of me on the left cheek.... I was cursing.... swerving all over the road... slamming on my brakes.. Finally I managed to pull over to a gas station all swollen up and bought a bottle of cold water and a bag of ice. Drove home.... called my girl at the time.... told her what happened.... told her I would see her when I could actually physically see her... Took 4 aspirin and went to bed. My eye and cheek was swollen for almost week. I felt like I was in a UFC match.. Your favorite thing about a 60-66? For a month.... Not the side vent! Didn't drive my truck till a month later...

I love the classic look and the fact no matter where you drive in it, people want to talk to you about the truck and usually have a story about their dads or grandfathers, etc. I love that whether it is a fully restored truck or a work truck with rust and flaws, they are all beautiful and deserve to be on the road. |
