67 SWB Crewcab....Building the Beast, aka Donkey!

Finally got the rear section for the crewcab. I bought a complete truck (minus bed) from OHJOE. After striping the truck down to the chassis, I wacked it off in front of the front cab mounts. Next week we will sandblast it and paint it. And then hopefully by the weekend, I'll get all the measurements laid out for a 45 degree cut and then we'll get it welded back together.

Hmmmm...hard to tell from the photos..but is that a 5 lug rear?

wow great truck to start with..would love to have on e..personaly id leave it long, but i like ot stick out, and it gives me somethign to cuss about when trying to park in a arking lot..cant wait to see more progress on it

rob, so your gonna take the two swb chassis and make a new chassis for the crew cab ? wish i would have been there when you picked up the gold truck , would have liked to have meet you . maybe i can talk joe into riding down one weekend and checkout you trucks . well good luck and keep us posted on the progress , mike

The turning radius is going to to crazy as it is, plus I really like the looks with a SWB.

Mike, come on down! Always glad to talk cars and trucks. Bring the truck with you, . The front part of the frame came from a LWB and the rear is from the swb I got from Joe. I'll post some more pics next week on how I put it all together. TTYL.

Ok stupid question I know every one likes to build the crew cabs out of suburbans and everything why don't they just take on the big truck cabs ie 1&1/2 ton or bigger that has 4 doors from this vintage and put it on a different frame extended of course I think that would be easier than making one out of a suburban i understand that the doors are the regular long ones but still wouldnt I realize this truck is not a suburban cut down but i just dont get why not do it that way I guess a chopped suburban would be cool, but you dont have as much room in the cab I would assume as a big truck cab right? and I realize some people wouldn't like the looks of the full doors. but chopping a suburban and adding a rear cab piece sounds like more work to me than lengthening a frame. has anyone ever seen one like I am talking about or has no one ever thought of this before? I think it would be very cool to build hmm maybe I should have some one photo chop one? I really like your truck though it will be really cool when you get it done and sorry for crapping up your thread with my ranting.

Because there were no crewcabs for the 67-72's. there all custom jobs done by a third part company, but not chevy. So their uber rare to find these conversions done originally back then. It just so happens suburbans have the pieces to make a proper looking crew cab.

Yes I realize this truck is extremely rare, but what im saying is why not take a 67-72 c50 or bigger cab that already has four doors and put it on half ton frame rather than chopping up a suburban? and then extend the frame rails so you can use the stock bed (1/2) and not have to cut the floors inside the cab. do you understand what i am saying now?

Mine is not a chopped suburban. It is a 2 door cab that was cut in half and 33" were added to the center. The rear doors are full size doors that have been cut down. Supposedly this was a GM prototype, but I can't prove it , so I'm going to build it they way I want .

yeah I know the history on your truck i read this thread fully and when the PO had it on his thread. Your's aren't the doors I'm talking about. I have seen a few on ebay that are full doors uncut and it was factory on a C50 or 60 cant remember it was definitely full doors with angled part where the door comes down I dont know how else to describe it it looked right to me (as in stock). gosh darn i wish i could find a pic of it

basically yeah but on a bigger chassis C50 or bigger to me that one I can tell it was a conversion the one I'm talking about looked more refined almost. The picture of the truck you posted on the panel in between the 1st and second door looks really goofy not factory this truck was much easier on the eyes to look at but it could be one of these but I really dont think so the truck I am talking about even had the drip rail all the way around but the only reason I remember that is cuz the top was white like the two tone trucks. I'm 75% sure that this was not a conversion it looked to nice to be.
