Been very quiet for a few months.Moving house and building a new home for the burb. Now I have a garage, with power, with light!!!! Hopefully things should start moving quicker.

Yeah. The garage is now finished. Sadly no where near as big as the previous rental but it does have the all important power and is just at the end of the garden. WIN WIN!!

Before the move I got started on making my door cards as I did want some degree of sound deadening. You could say I've carried away with the teak deck style but what the heck.

I have made sure everythign fits into factory screw holes so easy to put back to stock.

After making the templates I used two layers of birch ply sandwiched together with Epoxy. Slits were cut on the inside edges so the timber would bend to fit the profiles of the doors and side panels. I also hid rare earth magnets between the two layers to hold the panels to the side.

this may have ben a bad idea as iron filings are sticking to them but I am hoping when the car is finished there won't be much ground metal to attract

Not only does the new house now have a garage but also loft storage to kep my bling parts safe until I am ready

To get my progress up to present day from where I haven't been online in a while, here is my speaker install.

Again using the factory holes in the rear panels I routed some mdf rings. Can't decide whether the inner ring should be chrome effect or not though. What do you reckon??

i have covered the inner grills with vintage Wharfdale speaker cloth which matched what is planned for the interior.

I may have just hit on a TOP HACK for installing #chevysuburban side windows...

CAPTIONS TO STEP-BY-STEP IMAGES

1:Starting at the front end of each window take note of where the two channel fixing holes sit together.

2:Even if you are refitting existing glass I think for the sake of a few£$€s it is worth transferring the shape onto some 5mm ply and using them as templates. Jim carter sell paper templates that are very accurate as long as you cut along the inside edge of their marks. I transferred the location of these two holes onto a 5mm glass template.

3:I trimmed the edge square as it was all kinds of wrong when I received it from parts supplier

4: Starting half way between the two marks grip your channel over the edge of your template

5: The channel will want to kink especially on the tight radius

STEP6: At first I spent hours removing then straightening the kinks with pliers

STEP7: BUT HERES THE HACK! because you are using a cheap bit of work to form around rather than glass you can tap the kinks flat with a hammer. For a clean channel cover with thin cloth first

STEP8: First corners done and holding shape

STEP9:Trial fit to between those first two mounting holes

STEP10: Now it gets trickier. You may need a few soft teeth clamps if working alone

STEP 11: Mark the start of the rear radius on youR sliding glass template and transfer that onto the channel so you know where to start forcing the radius into it in the same way you have in earlier steps

STEP12: Foreman approval

STEP13: Not a bad curve. Would love to hear any other ways of shaving hours from this install with your top tips but thought I’d share this one

Looks good. I just received my install kit last week. I dug thru my old glass and hardware. Its nice to have a complete set of old glass to play with. I'm going to have new green tint flat glass cut. I don't have any tips as your farther along than I am. Looks good.

As long as you are not in a rush it is actually quite satisfying. Because most parts places omit the rarest bit of rubber channel I had to source similar. It did the job perfectly but did need stretching around the glass to keep the radius nice and tight against the glass.

More pics to follow as been busy during covid19 lock down.

Currently working out best route for my speedo cable without exiting through the firewall so any tips appreciated.
