KRUE - We did the emergency surface on the SSBN631 on sea trials from test depth. Took a long time to get that 8600 tons moving. After we porpoised, we mushed down to 150 feet. The new guys were white faced. My brother who is 18 years younger than me spent 27 years in Nukes.

Sounds like a trip! We did "Middie Ops" for the Freshman at the academy and did 2 blows from "greater than 400'" a day for the better part of a week! Not to mention all the angles and dangles we did.

Woodyjeff, I don't know about the marine airdales, but straight out of bootcamp I was in Millington (89-90) for AMH A1 school. First week was barracks duty, next 2 weeks was galley duty then another week of barracks before finally attending school. Finished school, and spent 15 weeks working for 1st LT (checking ID's at commissary then forwarding mail at the post office before getting orders to Norfolk VA (USS Eisenhower). Did Desert Shield/Storm (no where near conflict). Returned to Millington for AMH C-school (92-93), similar experience, then went to VF-101 at Oceana (Tomcat heaven). Millington (Sunny's bar) was where I met my second "X", painfully laughing out loud.

I had one of our sensor operators believing that the P-3 engines were installed on top of the wing so it could fly closer to the water.
Being a Herk guy it was years before I learned that it was not the engine that was upside down, just the gearbox. And when they cast the housing they are the same. Later, when its decided what airplane its going to it gets holes drilled for its particular application.

Crew Chief Hell

A pilot died at the controls of his plane and went to pilots' hell, where he found a hideous devil and three doors. The devil was busy

escorting other pilots to various "hell rooms." "I'll be right back --don't go away," said the devil, and he vanished.

Sneaking over to the first door, the pilot peeked in and saw a cockpit where the pilot was condemned to forever run through preflight checks. He slammed that door and peeked into the second. There, alarms rang and red lights flashed while a pilot had to avoid one emergency after another.

Unable to imagine a worse fate, he cautiously opened the third door. He was amazed to see a pilot getting ready for a flight while crew chiefs

diligently put the final touches on a perfectly-maintained aircraft, even bringing him coffee and saluting him sharply as they presented the forms for his approval.

He quickly returned to his place seconds before the devil reappeared.

"Okay," said the devil, "Which door will it be, number 1 or number 2?"

"Um, I want door number 3," answered the pilot.

"Sorry," said the devil. "You can't have door number 3. That's crew chiefs' hell."

Yeah, only the knuckle dragging Mechs would step on the damn thing though! One mech installed all the TD Amp. cannon plugs (4 of them) so tight that he broke the connectors and then safety wired them with .032 wire hoping no one would notice his f-up. His CDI didn't catch it, but we did when the system didn't work and they needed assistance in troubleshooting the system.

Currently F-15 crew chief section chief stationed at Langley AFB, VA. Prior KC-135 crew chief (and regretfully I know drnk2mny all to well) Been all around the world with that MOFO. Hey Jon you're right that NKAWTG..N! but you can never get a fighter guy to believe that. They actually believe there would be no AF without them.

I am in the Army. I came back in after 9/11 to do my part. I am in a long range recon detachment. I am infantry Ranger also in FT. Bragg NC.

I'm not in the Military due to myself being a Diabetic.

But my dad started as a Corpman in the NAVY(Never Again Volunteer Yourself) j/k, for 10 years. Long story short He's an Active Army Guy over in Iraq. Lt. Col is his rank now and when he gets home he's been told he'll pick up full Bird Col. He's Battallion Commander of the 81st. 1-185th AR, but is only two of Enhanced Infantry Brigades (even though they are Armor). Hes Commander of Camp Scania, South of Baghdad which is around 4,000 Troops. From Generals that he visits at Anaconda, hes been told to name the place he wants to go after returning from Iraq. His few choices that hes thinking about are Army War College, or CentCom in Tampa.


ITS ONE THING TO HEAR ABOUT MILITARY FUNERALS ON TV, BUT ITS ANOTHER STORY, WHEN BEING THERE HEARING THE BAGPIPES PLAY, HEARING TAPS, HEARING THE 21 GUN SALUTE, IT BRINGS YOU BACK TO REALITY. Not to be mean but for people who aren't/weren't or have family in the MILITARY they have no clue what actually happens in the real world. IF IT WASN'T FOR THEM SERVING OUR COUNTRY WE WOULD NOT BE SITTING HERE TYPING ON THIS WONDERFUL MESSAGE BOARD.

I'm an A1C in the Air Force, I've been stationed at Mcconnell AFB for a year now, first base. I am a 3C231 (Tech Control!) and I am typing this from work right now I saw the N.K.A.W.T.G. post, Thats our base's motto, 22 ARG, got like 30 something refuelers here. But I wouldnt know anything about them, I sit at a desk most of the time

US Army 97B then 18AO from 88-96. Made CW02
Medically retired out from a bad HALO jump.

US Navy Reserve- O4- Intelligence/Training officer, NFKC in a few places. REMF placed here to get other REMF's out to the fronts.
