Re: 1970 swb c-10

I have been making good progress the last week or so. I have the wiring almost wrapped up. I am hoping to try to start it up tomorrow. Most of my progress has been non picture worthy, but I did switch over to my other wheels and put the grille in. So that gives me an excuse to post some pictures.

Re: 1970 swb c-10

Thanks for the compliments!

I got it started today after a couple of problems that had to be corrected with wiring. I still need to bleed the brakes and do a few other small things before it can move under its own power. Everything worked as it should from an elictrical standpoint except for the factory tach. Im goint to call AAW tomorrow and see if they have any ideas. Felt good to hear it run again after around 9 months.

It could be an excuse for me to go to Bass Pro also
Bass Pro gets alot of my money too... I'll keep ya in mind for sure.. I've just been working along real slow right now, haven't had anything really to post other than more metal work and whatnot, and I have enough pages of that on my build! I wanted to get mine done by Fall, but I'm not sure, probably going to be more like next Spring. :-/ Really been taking my time with the metal and body stuff so it comes out nice and tight. (almost there and can move on to body and paint.) I'll give ya a heads up, but right now I'm still in bare metal, and have a long Trucky-to-do list.

What kind of paint gun did you use to spray yours?

Devilbiss Finish Line 3. It was pretty cheap, and even though I know NOTHING about spray guns, it seemed to work great.

Thanks. I've had that gun on my radar but was look at the Finish Line 4 which I'm pretty sure is the same gun just newer model. Also been looking at Eastwoods guns for about the same price. After seeing how good yours turned out I'm thinking I'll go with that one. I just have a cheap Harbor Freight gun I've been doing the primer with and it lays paint ok but I have to sand out quite a bit of orange peel every time. I know I'll have some no matter what, but the less the better!

Re: 1970 swb c-10

Well I took it to a little car show a few miles from here today. It still needs carpet, seat cover, and a steering wheel, but I couldnt resist getting it out. Its been raining here for so long, I figured I better get it out while I could. Show was pretty small and not too impressive. I forgot how much I dont really care for the car show scene. The oldest car to win one of the only 3 awards was a 08 Mustang. The other two were C6 Vettes Got alot of compliments except for the two grungy twenty year olds that couldnt afford a tank of gas for it, called it "A poor mans restoration" because the bed floor is line-x'd. I hate to admit that these two loosers opinion bothered me, but it made me mad. To hear someone criticize something you have put you heart and soul into for the last few years, kinda hurts. While I never intended for it to be a show truck, its far from a jolopy. Anyway, between them and the people/kids touching everything, I'm kinda down on car shows. But I did win $100 in a drawing!! took som pics before I left.

Screw what the kids say.
It's beautiful.

I enjoy the "cruise night" shows/scene much better.
Even the Goodguys Events are more to my liking.
They have everything from ratrod, beaters, drivers,... all the way up to million dollar show cars all at the same event.
Plus you can't leave your vehicle at the events overnight,... so they gotta be driven.

Again,... beautiful job on your truck!

Man, don't let it get you down. Those kids were just the wrong audience. Not to say because of their age but because of their taste (or lack there of). Everyone has their own opinion on what looks good. Some people like only OEM style restoration. For others it's all about everything being shaved and having a modern interior. The only guarantee is that you will never please everyone. Just please yourself and be proud knowing that you did the work yourself. Btw, I think your truck looks great and I agree with Keith about the "cruise night" style shows being a better scene.

Thanks for the compliment.
I would definately use it again. I really like the look it gives chassis parts, just the right flatness. Im planning on driiving it alot, so we'll see how well it holds up. I noticed that while doing the assembly, it didn't scratch very easily. So i'm optomistic that it will hold up fairly well.

Re: 1970 swb c-10

I put about 120 miles on it this weekend. Everything is working flawlessly. Restoring this thing was the best money I have ever spent. My wife told me she doesn't want to drive her boring "mom car" (New Lincoln MKX) anymore. Once I get the interior done I'll use the real camera and do a full photo shoot and post them up.

Congrats on getting out to your first show Jonathan, even though it sounds like it was the wrong show. lol. You're truck looks great and I agree I think the showing it off part would be great but the part of everyone touching stuff doesn't sound so appealing to me. :-/
