Re: geezers unite

I was born Feb. 1952, but feel 21 when I hear that big block rumble. I don't drive the Vette much, but it's safer that way. I get just as much thrill from the big block as I did at 21. I did a frame off on this one.
I'm a lucky man. I've had back surgery and hernia surgery, but I do anything I want.
I still work 10 hrs pretty much every day, but I avoid stress, passed that off to the son in law. I like to drive big rigs, so when our equipment needs to be moved, I take the runs that have good scenery and cafes, and I usually take a loafer car buddy.
I get to see a lot of neat cars and trucks in my travels.

Re: geezers unite

Thank you. I didn't do anything heroic, I just saw it as an adventure. There were times when I thought I had made a serious mistake, but 98% of the time it was a job. Met a lot of people who are friends to this day, got a chance to travel, got to play with some of Uncle Sam's expensive toys, and got paid to do it all.
Now, I know some of you other vets are wondering if I qualified for the CG by being at least six feet tall. Yes, I did! Today, maybe not, but what I've lost in height, I've gained in girth

Re: geezers unite

Well, I am 53-my wife will tell you I quit maturing at 17-and I still have petroleum products coursing through my veins. Built custom trucks for quite a few years-quite a few years ago-and still love it, although I mainly do it for myself these days. Got into building custom guitars and basses a few years ago for the same reason I started building my own vehicles-couldnt afford to have anyone else do it for me and my tastes were way bigger than my budget. That, along with a job and teenagers still at home keeps me busy.

Frame getting welded up next week. THen I'll have to start a list. Always wanted to build an old rod. Should be running by the time I hit 61 or at least before I kick the bucket. LOL!!!

Some pics. Only in mockup stage. Frame was welded up today. Deciding on suspension set ups. So many choices. All involving spending some mulla.
So far about 4 grand into it. 1978 302 and c4. Ford 9". Big bigs and little littles. All the parts and pieces. Assembly time.

Re: geezers unite

So since this thread started,I had an experience that makes me want to change the "Geezer" title to the "Butt Light Brigade".

If you haven't then do it.The prep is worse than the procedure.

I don't know why I didn't notice this post before.

Been there, done that, not much fun. The only piece of advice I can offer during the prep part is when the you're visiting the thunder jug, keep your mouth open. If you don't the sudden purge could cause a vacuum and your head may cave in.............just sayin'

Re: geezers unite

A liitle update. Hit the big 60 a week ago. Officially collecting a pension from the government. A mear 700 bucks a month but enough to build my T with.
Got the frame built and found a spring and the rest of the stuff to build the front end. Had to cut the 75 year old hardware off the axle. Used my angle grinder and a cut off disc. Set my coveralls on fire with hot grinding slag.
TWICE!!! LOL!!! Here's a pic of the hole in my coveralls, my frame etc.
Ain't old age grand!!!

This is before I pulled the engine and front cross. member

Re: geezers unite

got a question... of you older gents out there.

are you totally bow-tie? or do you bridge the brands?

me, i'm more style orientated. i love most chevys, but chevy had some bad looking models and a few style-less years. sorry, but thats my opinion.
(most 40's chevys, vega, corvair...)

ford had some wonderful models and some great styling years. (30's cars, mid-sixties trucks, etc.) seems that most manufacturers had good years and bad, based on their designers. except dodge, dodge has always played catchup with the styling curve.
there again, just my opinion...

what's yours?

I think someone should be careful when they say they are absolutely a one-brand person. They may "prefer" a certain brand/model, but to deny another marques existance is just blindness. Back when I was much younger the hot rod of choice was a Ford. There were reasons for this. Ford had the flathead V8, and although they had some wood in the bodies, Chevrolet relied too much on a wooden "skeleton", and when the wood went away, so did the body shape. All of my early cars were Fords mostly from the 40's and 50's. My first Chevy was a '60 two door hardtop. I loved that car and drove the wheels off of it. I've had at least one of each major US brand and each one has filled a need at the time. Today I have an '06 Caravan to haul the boat trailer because the 8' oars fit inside on the floor, all of the gear fits in the back, and I don't have to worry about it sitting at the ramp while I'm gone.
I just sold a '33 Ford pickup that had the sweetest sounding flathead you've ever heard, and my toy of choice right now is my dually.
I prefer Chevy trucks, but if a sweet old Ford hotrod showed up begging to get in the garage, I wouldn't kick it out just because "I was a Chevy man."

Re: geezers unite

But in all my almost 64yrs I have only had 1 dodge truck and 1 Plymoth and 1 Dodge car just don't care for them. Most of what I have had have been chevy's back in the 60' you could pick any 2 dr post tri 5 for $50 or $100. I loved my 2000 Ford SD 4dr short bed and still like the look of the SD's over the Chevy trucks Ford has the most room and best fit for me any way but they are all out of my price range so I will stick with the old ones I can work on. My daily driver is a 01 Implia and my wifes is a 03 Tauras and I think the Tauras is a much better car.

Re: geezers unite

54 years young and hope for many more. Like others I'm not as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I ever was. Still playing with toys and enjoying the simple things of life. My first grandson is on the way and I have already restored an old peddle tractor that belonged to my boys growing up and am working on a home made rocking horse that was mine when I was a kid, makes it about 53 years old. Next in line is an old tricycle. I need to get back to my truck but this is fun too.
