Re: LS engine swap info
In doing some research I was unable to come up with a cure for my return line issue. I have a truck intake with regulator and return. I wanted to switch to the corvette filter with regulator and ditch the return line from the engine but stick with the truck intake because it's tall and I think it fits the engine bay better than the shorter car intake (not to mention the car rails all seem to have the feed pipe pointing to the left instead of back towards the firewall). What I did was replace the left fuel rail with a non-return rail part number 12602113. Then you can toss the return pipe that attaches to the rail and you're left with only the feed pipe. You can also get retainer kit part number 89017378 to replace the one that was originally for both tubes, I plan to just trim the one that was there.

Re: LS engine swap info
Or you can get a different set of fuel rails that does not have said FPR on it from the trucks, I do not have a good pic of it but it accomplished the same thing as mentioned above. Heck, I think I got a spare fuel rail here that does not have a FRP on it.

Over on ls1truck, ls1tech, et al, the guys that are building up GenIII's with LS6 and other aftermarket intakes practically give the 04 > truck intakes and rails away.

If you want to go big, I can ship you a 102mm FAST intake for the truck for $840 and $30 for the intake gaskets if you want them too.

Re: LS engine swap info
Theres a 3 digit code (like DCP) that doesn't match the RPO number (LS1, L92, etc)...the dealers Parts dept) don't seem to know what it means... but someone at GM has to.

Re: LS engine swap info
Wow! $500?!
I got mine from Wait4me, I think I will try Nelson performance in SA, a custom tune is $300.00 and they mail order too.

Re: LS engine swap info
Thats list for a Wester's tune probably...Brian discounts the price, especially if he doesn't have to reference Westers data for your tune. Brian can also do a dyno tune....rather then a "bench" tune. I plan on taking my truck over to him to help dial in my combo when its complete. He's worked on my TBSS and it picked up like .4x to .5x in the 1/4.
Nelson is OK but Wait4me wouldn't be my 1st choice. You could also buy HPTuners or LS1edit and do it yourself? Mine will be easier to tune I think. Just select the right curve for the MSD box and the rest is jets, air bleeds, and set screws....screwdriver work.

Which one? I have used both styles and ended up with the rod style over the cable style.

Re: LS engine swap info
I used a Pierburg Pump from Turn Key Engine supply.
Low_84, I would just save the $ and ship it to Nelson Performance, they will do you right. Not that there is anything wrong with Jesse, he is a really nice guy, it's just that Nelson Perf has a very good rep here and on LS1Tech/Ls1truck. I went with Jesse and them, the work they did was fine for a stock tune, nothing more( all the stuff was eliminated and I wanted it on, like front O2's the CEL, and other sensors) the harness didnt look very clean at all. no instructions were with it at all. After 2-3 calls, I figured out what went where. Their communication is on the poor side though, very frustrating. I DID get what I paid for.Knowing now what I know, I would get an after market harness and a perf tune. Try Fuel Injection Connection (FIC) for your harness, they quoted me $508 for the engine harness with 4l60e, all relays and such for fuel pump, ac and stuff. If your putting your LSx in your 84, just get a tank from an 87 and put the Walbro 255 in it. Hope this all helps.

Re: LS engine swap info
i have a question on the 4l60e,,,,apparently you "have" to have a speedo for the tranny to shift?? well here is the problem, my 84 has a broken analog speedo and i dont really want to deal with the speedo right now. i thought the computer shifted the transmission.

Re: LS engine swap info
You would need an electronic speedo, the truck will run and all without one, you will just be a target of Johnny Law without.
You can switch the tail housing out to a 700 ( or aftermarket) but I think that is expensive. You also can purchase an electronic speedo from many different guage companies, takes a bit to get them configured but it isnt all that bad. The trans shifts the trans, the computer just monitors it and adjusts the rpm and or timing if needed, I really dont think it cares what the trans is doing.
