Re: Rods 57
Don't you know it! Seems like it'll never get done, doesn't it? Hopefully it'll feel all downhill once it has color on it.

Re: Rods 57
So I bought a shrinking disc for some body work. Have any of you used one of these before?

Re: Rods 57
A buddy just told me about a guy he used to work for who ruined a lot of sheet metal using one of those. As a fabricator and metalworker myself I see how it can work but have no desire to try. I prefer the good old tried and true methodology. I would definitly practice on scrap first!

Re: Rods 57
Rods 57,
The shrinking disc works great, just let the disc do the work do not use pressure. The metal does not have to get extremely hot, just hot enough so that when you quench it, it seams. The concept is the disc will heat the high spots and when you quench it, the highs will shrink. Just remember patience and you will be okay. It is not a replacement to hammer and dolly work just an extra tool in your arsenal use properly you will enjoy it. I like the smooth stainless steel ones like yours I don't use the one with ripples. Re: Rods 57
Thanks, for all of the advise. I tried it out today and it worked great. A little at a time and no pressure. My son in law and I both used it on different panels and it was great in addition to the usual hammer work.

Nice work. Do you plan to weld all of the seams in the cab?

Re: Rods 57
Great build !
Red is one of the colors along with cream white that are the accent colors on my 57 GMC. I hadn't thought to bring them into the interior but after seeing them on this thread I will have to bring them in. Heck while I'm at it I might do the firewall also. |

Re: Rods 57
So I wanted to relocate my battery but not make it difficult to get to. i have this old tool box and i have toying with the idea of cutting it up and making it into a battery box in the bed. started to see what it will look like.
will weld the drawer fronts to a piece to look like they are functional. |

Re: Rods 57
Sorry I can't see covering nice varnished wood with an old tool box. If my truck was built for show I would do what Delmo did if I were to hide it. I am keeping mine under the hood I am to old to be crawling over or under anything just to replace a battery that is usually what requires change a long with oil gas, plugs etc...
