Re: 1986 suburban build with 6.0l swap
Tonight I figured out how video games have enhanced my life, You see I used to be really good at Tetris.
Spent a ridiculous amount of time on the HVAC box like 5 hours, I went to the paint store and bought a box pf 3M strip calk. Thanks BTW Scott! I would have never known about this stuff. what a mess I made for my self. but,I finally got a good seal around my firewall. also hid the wires underneath the box instead of over it. Got my throttle cable, Its way too long so I ordered a 36" instead of the 48" I also just ordered another radiatior/dual fan combo. the guy sent me the 17" core insted of the 19" core I needed for the 'burb. after month and a half of talking back and forth with the seller. He payed for shipping to sent this radiator back but by then I was frustrated and I decided to just keep the 17" one for the C10. I ordered from a different company this time. I sugjest If you buy from entropy that you be very specific on how you want your radiatior. When i told him he sent me the wrong one he said "well I thought you wanted the BARE minimum radiator :Angryas****smiley: I said if i wanted the bare minimum I would have bought a champion one, NOT the 700$ one. He then said that I had to give him 400 more for the 19' core. after arguing he gave in and I gave up. I bought a American eagle one this time for 1/4 of the price and I cant tell a difference between the two. I honestly think he takes the cheapo one, and slaps his name on it. BUT I wont know for sure until I compare the two when it shows up also ordered a complete carpet set from Stockinteriors.com for both trucks. Suburban got charcoal carpet because thats the color I'm doing the seats. the c10 got black. All the seats out of the burb are loaded in the back of my truck and are going to the upholster Mike Harris on Monday. I think he said a week and a half to finish them. I chose charcoal vinyl and he Is going to build up the lumbar and make the seats look like the ones in my Yukon. the seams will be double stitched and NO tubes (I hate the tube) Today I also scored A 91 burb gas tank with the correct baffles in it. and with it came a cowl induction hood. think it will go on the c10 cause I have already jammed the hood off the burb. I'm tired and going to bed :lol2:

Re: 1986 suburban build with 6.0l swap
I have been working on this like crazy in any free time I can get, I have a bunch of need parts that have showed up/still shipping that I'm excited for. This build is taking a turn for the more expensive route lol originally I wanted a quick swap/mod to make this truck just a little nicer then the average suburban. the more and more I work on it the flashier it gets lol oh well, I'm having tons of fun building it. More and more of my friends are starting to get into this project as well. friend are showing up to help and its awesome, up until a month ago I did all this work by myself and it was super boring. now when I get off work my friends call and say "what are we doing to the burb tonight Ha Ha
Full carpet kit came and is laying in the suburban, Mike Harris (Upholster) is coming out Saturday to install the carpet. I was going to do it but Its a ***** to line everything up and I'm afraid of cutting it to small or in the wrong place. Mike has installed so many it will be easy for him and I can focus on wiring. Also mike finally has my interior at his house and working on it all week. I'm excited! i went with a charcoal leather with blur french seam double stitch. the centers of the seats will have a slightly different color leather with a different pattern. yesterday I got my order of 200sf of fat mat, I'm going crazy with the stuff because I don't want one rattle. also thinking about buying some spray deader to coat the inside of my quarter panels. I'm going to need all the sound deadening I can get. Bought a 24" flip down Tview monitor that will go in the roof just behind the front seats, I wanna watch movies if its raining while camping LOL I think I will mold the indash out of my camaro into the roof console so there is a screen up front also. it as a remote and will be easier to control up high. today I'll be picking up my set of subs I ordered from Car Concepts, I chose two 13w6v2 subs. let me just say these things are going to be insane!! My truck will most likely (Hopefully) be in some booths for car concepts later down the road so the boxes will be made out of fiberglass on the back of the box so can utilize all the space I can. the front of the box will be mdf rapped in leather to have a not so flashy appearance. one box and sub on each side so I have room for my air mattress still. It will look nice and still be a functioning camping truck. still waiting on my led strips I ordered Tuesday, I bought 50 feet of cool white leds strips and 50 Feet of RGB led strip, the cool white ones will go under the lip on my fenders to illuminate the engine bay and the ground around the doors, like a Curticy lighting. the RGB's will go under all the seats, dash and head liner molding for a Opera lighting kind of effect. I'm kinda stuck on my fuel system, I planed to do the corvette press regulator with a return-less fuel rail. the fuel rail I was going to use was off a 5.3l engine I have, it is a aluminum fuel rail. while I was plugging in my engine wiring harness last weekend, I noticed that the injectors on this fuel rail are the longer ls1 style injectors. so the plugs on my wiring harness don't work, so I thought I would just swap the injectors. when I did that I noticed that the injectors are different lengths and wont work. so i'm on the look out for the black plastic fuel rail that is the returnless style (no regulator) If you have one please let me know. I came up with another thing thats kind of cool, I could not find a solution for a temp sensor problem i have been having. see, the ls temp sensor is a 12mm x 1.5 thread. the Original small block sensor id a 3/8 x 18npt so after days of searching i decided I would try something my boss suggested. so i went to the junk yard and snagged a temp sensor and went to work on it with a lathe at work. I was able to machined the SB sensor down to a 12mm x 1.5 thread. I have now sold 5 of them on national forums for some extra cash, If anyone doing a ls swap needs one let me know. Any way I hope all this nonsense makes some sense, I'm out

Re: 1986 suburban build with 6.0l swap
I'm not sure If anyone reads my build anymore but i'll update anyway
I had the ev1 to ev6 conectors delivered, tried them and they are wrong they fit on the injectors but not the harness. This is the injector what the harness plugs into, http://www.ebay.com/itm/Delphi-FJ10062-11B...=item4ab0547786 I have a teaser pictures tho  They are not exactly how I wanted the but I guess they'll do. I like them. I HATE the line that cuts off the head rest to the side lumbars. but all and all this guy is incredible with a sewing maching. the rear seats look so amazing as well, he is dropping the rest off tomorrow and installing my pad and carpet

Re: 1986 suburban build with 6.0l swap
here is some more seat pictures. I'm mad at myself because I did not take any pictures before carpet. I spent 8 hours (I know because I timed it) to lay out almost 50sq feet of fat mat on the floor. I don't want any noise!! Ha Ha but Mike Harris came out and Installed my carpet and I took few pictures, I should have taken more. dash pad is getting wrapped with the double stitch "french seam", and all the door panels are getting wrapped and Double stitched. I hate the cheap feel of the door panels. am I going to far? Maybe! but I'm having fun lol
Best picture I could get at night front 2nd row 3rd row

Re: 1986 suburban build with 6.0l swap
Thanks for the comments guys. this week i have finished the fuel system, finished the undercoating, instaled half the interior, installed front clip, and started the wiring and what a mess that is. I hope i can get it all working correctly LOL here is a ton of pictures. I scored some EV6 connectors so My friend Paul came out and soldered them in for me. while he was there he took some measurements and we designed my sub box for my 13W6v2. I am getting better at soldering but I did not wanna mess up an engine harness lol
I used the PCM mounting bracket out of my camaro to mount the pcm to the battery tray. Cruise control Module fits under here just perfect. Radiator set in place to check clearance Oil sending unit, I went to evco and bought a few different fittings to make it work. 16mm to -4an then -4an to 1/4-28 npt then oil sender lol its about 3' off the block which made it perfect height for changing if it fails some goodies i picked up Here is some pictures of the fuel system and the undercarriage that I have put about 20 hours into

very nice build!! I am VERY impressed with how the seats came out. They are stock, but look much more modern with the material. I can't wait to see more progress, keep up the excellent work

Re: 1986 suburban build with 6.0l swap
I got a few tings done this weekend, but not as much as I wanted. I sold my Yukon! Yay me lol I installed my new shift linkage from lokar, then broke it FML 130$ down the ****ter. think that six states will make me a new cable? any ideas? the link where it hooks my linkage to the trans is supposed to be a little loose so that it will pivot when the arm moves. well I tightened it and first attempt at shifting it it snapped the threads off the linkage.
And scratched my paint Also I figured it would be a good idea to drop the trans pan and change the filter and this is what I found... I would also like to add that the trans pan tried to kill me.. The drain plug was siezed in there, (part of the reason for dropping the pan) I took some degresser and cleaned the pan good and grabbed the map gas torch. after about 3 minutes, I graded the wrench and tried it, no budge. with the torch again for about 8 minutes with the torch i heard a slight hisss the bang like a gun shot, it exploded. I fell back luckily wearing my safety glasses, while a 4 foot diameter fire ball floated towards the cilling. then another bang and instantly filled my whole shop with a thick cloud of thick white smoke. I grabbed a fast breath and ran out of my shop. Can I just say **** that pan bolt. oh and the best part, it did no damage to the pan or the bolt. it looks normal. WTF was that all about? mounted the radiator and finished all the hoses.

You could use the theory 'when my tummy hurts I drink pepto bismol, maybe it will make my tranny feel better'. I'm not a doctor, but Pepto in the tranny doesn't look good.... You are making sweet progress though!!!

Re: 1986 suburban build with 6.0l swap
The turbo will set in the passenger side of the engine bay, in front of the engine between the water pump and radiator. but off to the side a little towards the battery tray. all the exhaust piping will run under the engine. I want to keep the engine bay temps down to help with the extra heat from towing.

Re: 1986 suburban build with 6.0l swap
What are these for? I thought it was an internal tranny cooler but it looks like you have a B&M tranny cooler mounted in front of your rad.

Re: 1986 suburban build with 6.0l swap
Those lines are for the internal trans cooler. When I find a cooler that I like I will mount it to my frame rails. I saved the area in front of the radiator for the intercooler. What you're seeing is the A/C Condenser. It was half way painted black already so I finished it off to make it look decent under the grille. I cant wait to see what the shinny Aluminum intercooler looks like behind the grille.

Re: 1986 suburban build with 6.0l swap
This weekend I accomplished Quite a few things.
1. I went to Six States and they made me a new shift linkage. its way better quality then the Lokar piece, but not as pretty. installed that and shifter worked threw all the gears properly. If anyone needs a lokar shift linkage Linky I have one for sale 2. I left the trans pan off all last week for the milk shake to run out. :sulk: installed the new trans filter and put the pan back on. I will go have the trans flushed after a few miles of driving. I think what happened was I forgot to plug one of the trans cooler fittings and water got in when I scrubbed down the trans. 3. Pulled the transfer case, replaced the torn gasket with black rtv silicone. and then reinstalled it. wired in the VSS sensor harness I got from, The Kelly. also hooked up the shift linkage for the trans case. 4. FINALLY, With some help from my friend Brett, I finished the engine bay wiring!!! I used zip ties to group it all together until I have put a few miles on the truck, to insure everything is working proper. well I still need to do the A/C wiring. But that will come with time. I have no need for A/c now. Also last night was the first time I let it run long enough to get up to operating temps. my home made temp sender works great! all my gauges work and even my factory Check engine light was used. I'm using my camaros PCM to start the truck for now because I have yet to get the PCM I'm going to use tuned, so as you could imagine the truck runs a Little rough. Hopefully Vince will have some free time Saturday to come up and tune this beast. About I need to do now is build my exhaust and I'll be driving this thing. Here is how the engine harness and PCM unhook from the fuse block and body harness I made. almost looks factory The plugs mount to the side of the fuse box. Finished, before wrapping in wire loom. Shift linkage Off the manifold
