Re: 55.1 S10 swap Gypsum
great work, just read the whole thread.love the cutting table made pieces.a man would be hard pressed to come up with parts that look that good,go together that nice and have 1 or 101 be all identical, any other way.i buy parts like that from a place in Ontario.they've made a bunch of pieces for me i designed and then they cut up that i used to install a 360 dodge motor,a mustang 2 front end, transmission mount and some other things all in my 39 Chrysler project.great parts, wish i could do it here.you do great work.i'll be watching.take care.thanks.

Re: 55.1 S10 swap Gypsum
haha ds there is one there, it has a box behind the interior panel because the jeep is separate lights for brake and turn. i have been using the cherokee and the 77"x12' trailer for most hauling because it gets better mpg than the silverado.
mr mud thanks!

Re: 55.1 S10 swap Gypsum
Always enjoy seeing what you have on the go. I have a bit of an off topic question.
You've built alot of Advance Design pickups....what do you use for headliner material to replace the original ? I have the original for a pattern, I'll just not include the mouse holes! Thanks Russ. |

Re: 55.1 S10 swap Gypsum
i use the cardboard replacement headliners but a tip: kind of prebend them and always work with a friend.
I always say I am going to trace the headliner on all this kydex i have but i NEVER DO. ![]() ![]()

Re: 55.1 S10 swap Gypsum
playing around in the shop, saw a guy who said his 48 ford truck came with some hudson taillights. i looked them up and they had an interesting shape, found a set on ebay and got some harley LEDs. they fit the curve of the fender like they were made for them, and the LEDs fit great and are bright as heck. single ring parking light, and two brighter brake/turn.

Those Hudson taillights are a creative idea. You may start a new customizing trend!

haha the cnc table is like 3 feet to the right. I used to watch for torch collisions religiously or sometimes the slag on the shield would grab the metal and take it for a ride, but ever since I got the z axis motor and torch height control software, i can cut an entire nest while just kind of staying in the room. the 54 is still in the 4 season garage ©®™ so i can walk out in the driveway and work on it too, such a godsend was that upgrade, like almost doubled the cost of the table with the machine torch but sheeeeeeeesh. I have been getting further in front of orders with an actual inventory so i should be finishing the 54 soon, more to come!

Re: 55.1 S10 swap Gypsum
I got a new welder! well I didnt but I did. i research everything religiously, and so I picked a hobart ironman 240. look at the size difference, old one on the left.
kits are mostly 3/16th material, my old welder was a trooper and as long as you keep a carpet fan on it, it would do the job and then some. not bad for a 23 year old machine that ironically i bought because it was way more capability than I needed at the time. here is a comparison of the settings for 3/16th parts, old machine (lincoln 170T) vs new. the lincoln had a 30% duty cycle at that setting! the hobart has 100% duty cycle at that setting. ![]() and how did i get a new welder but didnt? well, the new one is going to my kit welders house, along with the welding table and the vise and some other stuff. instead of him schlepping over here to weld on saturdays and sometimes sundays (and sometimes mondays!) depending on orders, he will now do it in the comfort of his own shop. I will supply the steel and the wire and the gas and the consumables. which means more time for activities here! I have been working on new stuff like a madman, and teh 54 of course. ![]()

Re: 55.1 S10 swap Gypsum
Nice upgrade. I must admit I've been thinking about upgrading my Lincoln 180T. This darn peer pressure...

Re: 55.1 S10 swap Gypsum
slow slow slow progress! i did get the front end mounted and the hood lined up. its been unusually cold in the 4seasongarage™.
around christmas i bought a compressor, my old coleman powermate has been getting louder and really I have been asking a bunch of it with the almost non stop sun up to sun down plasma cutting I have been doing. it was an IR T30, and the guy said it was a 3ph motor wired 230 single phase and it had a black white red cord on it, the guillotine switch was missing. some 3ph motors can be wired this way, so i bought it. unfortunately he was mistaken, the motor was a 3ph and couldnt be wired single phase, the single phase colored wires were a red herring, someone had just use whatever they had on hand. it was also missing the contactors and perssure/unloader setup. a $300 t30 is a good deal when it doesnt need a $550 motor and $200 in ancillary parts. but TODAY. I found a gal listing just stuff after stuff on FBMP and saw a 10 minute old ad for a 17 gal compressor with a motor that fit the bill exactly, 5hp (I needed 3-4), 1785 rpm (needed 1750) 230v single phase. and it had contactor and all the missing parts I needed. kudos to the gal for posting the motor deets on the ad! $100!!! nothing could prepare me for the size of that motor though! I had to improvise getting it out, when I loaded the guy was helpful but at my house my wife and daughter were home so i just did it by myself. ![]() of course it works great, so now i am thinking of just connecting it to my 80 gal tank and using it as a 97 gal setup. my wife will love it because when i forget the switch at night the coleman sounds like a helicopter landing in the basement. more to come I promise!
