Re: My '87 SWB Project w/pics!!
I know these maybe boring pics but here are the body mount cushions, retainers, & upper front shock stud/bolts. I had to remove the factory rubber bushings from the cab mount cushions. They are factory GM parts I got from the dealership (cheaper than LMC). I will only use 2 out of the three shock stud/bolts. All these will be powder coated silver except for the shock bolt/studs which will be polished ceramic to match the rears. I will keep pics as I make progress. Enjoy!!

Nice project. I just did a blazer tank swap on my s10 and was wandering what needed to be done for this swap. Thanks for the pics and info.
I know what you mean about snowballing projects. I'm still finishing up my last one...

dbmx66: thanks for the compliments
87 chevy silverado: thanks for the compliments glock35ipsc: thanks I remember that when i got it lowered the next morning I went and put the wheels and tires on it and then went to work the next day, I thought it was shiznit until I found this site and you know what happened afterwards.. smokedat: I basically clean the frame soap, water and some SOS pads, I already did the marine clean (por15), next I will do the metal ready (por15) and then i will foam brush on two coats of the POR15 Chassis Coat which is a Satin Black (factory look) color. americanmuscle: Yeah some people tell me that it's overkill; it could be I guess but like told them it will not be a trailer queen, I want something that will hopefully last and is easy to keep clean. I already want a 4 door squarebody dually.. |

Re: My '87 SWB Project w/pics!!
Here are some pics, not too big of deal. I got this done today. A lot of elbow grease, heavy duty scotch brite pads, 220 grit sand paper (used occasionally), some mean green cleaner, & some brake parts cleaner (used occasionally). I still have the two coil brake lines that come off the master cylinder and the two rear axle brake lines to cleanup hopefully tomorrow after church. I may replace the two rear axle ones we will see. I am contemplating on using some VHT silver paint to paint them all and then use VHT clear on them as well. Those for lines mentioned above has the factory spiral sleeving on them. These are all the factory lines, two of them are the tranny lines. Enjoy!! FYI I should be picking up all the parts in the previous pics that went to powder coat on Monday evening and I will try and post pics up!! Enjoy and have a good safe weekend to all!!!

Re: My '87 SWB Project w/pics!!
I had the alternator case powder coated polished ceramic as well. I just had Alterstart to put it back together. They built about a year or so ago and I never have installed it, that's when the tear down started..lol So here is a pic of it put back together with the polished ceramic powder coated case. It will have the black fan and polished ceramic pulley as well. It's 200 amp. Enjoy!!

Re: My '87 SWB Project w/pics!!
Guys here are some more pics, maybe boring to some, but here yo go. The first 2 pics were requested by WigglesTheHoly. 1st one is bed without fuel filler and the 2nd one is how it will look with the fuel filler installed.
3rd pic is the steering gear box that was primed/painted gloss black & clear (rattle can-Dupli Color primer, ceramic & clear). The 4th pic shows the bottom of the steering gear box which was just cleaned and scotch brighted. I may paint it with Dupli Color Silver and clear it. The 5th pic is the brake proportioning valve & the steering coupler that goes on the steering gear box. The cover for the steering gear box was powder coated in silver (shown in previus pics above) so it shoul look pretty good. I should have the rest of the frame por-15 finished this weekend. I will keep everyone posted. Have a blessed evening. I will be hardware shopping this weekend for nuts/bolts. Getting close to ordering the Energy Suspension bushings to start installing the suspension. Enjoy!!! |

Re: My '87 SWB Project w/pics!!
twoodson, do you have a zoomed out shot of the fuel door in the bed? I'll be swapping out my poly cell for a Burb tank in the next couple weeks and I'm wondering if my existing hole will work.
