Thanks! What does the vaccum line hook to? Is it the one that comes off that servo thingy on the side of the trans?

Yep. That's your vacuum modulator.

It connects to a port from the intake manifold. If I remember how mine is setup, the same place you would hook the power brake booster to, there is a tee fitting that has PB and trans connection. If you never had a T350 ro T400 tranny, then you might not have the nipple off the tee for the connection.

OK cool, so I need to get a fitting that hooks into the back of the intake? Does this part have a specific name, and is there already a hole there for it?

I would look something like this


There are different configurations, number of ports, etc. but if you look on your intake manifold, between the carb and distributor, you should see a port that either has a tee fitting already (if you have PB) or a plug, which you remove and replace with the tee fitting.

Most auto stores should have them or online. May be called manifold vacuum fitting or power brake fitting.

There are many ways to hook this stuff up, I followed the viedo that came with the edlebrock carb that i bought. It looks like we have the same one, so there are three ports on the front of your carb. The big one in the middle goes to the Pcv valve, or breather in your valve cover. The one on the passenger side goes to the dist. and the one on the driver side goes to the trans.
like i said the are many ways to go about it but this is the way i hooked it up.

Hmmm I just remembered that I didn't use the new carb, I put the old one back on. It only has the one big port in the middle and one tiny one on the passenger side.














I tried hooking the trans. vac. line to it, but it was too big. Tested it out of curiosity and the tranny still won't shift. Would this be the right place to plug in the vacuum line? I was wondering about the big open hole in the back of the carb, what goes there? And theres a threaded port in the back of the intake, directly under the dizzy cap. What goes there?

And Im also wondering about the vac. advance. Besides where to hook it up, I don't know if this is set up right. The timing is set pretty good, but the distributor seems to be spun way too far to the side. Its running into the coil. Is this supposed to be like this?

I'm sure someone w/more experience will chime in, but this is how I have mine:

I've got my PCV valve hooked up to the large front port on the carb. The small one in the front is for vacuum advance. I'm using a port on the back of the intake manifold for the transmission vacuum. The big hole on the back of the carb is another vacuum port. It should be plugged if you aren't using it, but I have my brake power booster hooked to it. I'm assuming the rear port could also be used for your trans. vacuum line if you aren't using power brakes.

You have a tubing and screw in the port that goes to the trans it has something to do with the heights. the passenger port is higher than the one one on the driver side. The vac advance goes to the passenger side. really you can take vaccume from anyone of the many places they give us. I've plugged the port in the back of my carb, and taken vaccume for my brakes off the intake in the back.

Ok I bought a couple different fittings at NAPA. Hopefully one them will fit. NAPA doesnt have a very good supply of different fittings, its all bigger sizes

I got all of mine from Napa, but I know that Checker Auto has them here. I don't know if you have Checker, but Advance, Kragen, CSK, and Schuck's are all the same. The local Car Quest usually has em too.

No I've been gone all week, Just got home from a school camp out at the beach. This weekend will be time to find a bigger NAPA and get the right fittings.

I saw this nice truck on my camp out and just wondered if it was a members.









We were sitting around the fire late one night, and someone had the bright idea to throw a pot of beans at a raccoon. He hit me in the face on the back swing.









There was blood and baked beans everywhere.

Took the first real drive since I took it apart over a year ago! It felt and drove great. Couple questions though.....

I am wondering about my brake lines. They run inside the frame rails, which is right next to the headers.














Over extended driving time, will the heat coming off the headers damage the brake fluid? Any dangers of losing brake pressure after driving for a while?
