LT1 Burbs 65 Stock SW Build

your build keeps me going on mine, i have a question i hope you can help with. i just bought a oem fiberglass fan shroud for my 65 stepper $50 uber super find with other awesome hard to find parts on scraigslist cheap and local, anyway a piece is broken off, more like chipped off about a 6in section on the round fan side and about 1in deep kinda jagged looking. do you know or heard of a way to repair it while keeping the oem look, cuz i watched a bunch of videos and they just mat it add resin and sand,prime and paint. i want the grey look that it just left the showroom finish. so please help me!!!!

Thats a tough one,my shroud has a crack in it and I am going to resin it also. I have not got that far but also want the stock grey look but when you figuer it out LMK or if I get to it first I will let you know.

i just had an idea, maybe if we sandwich fiberglass, the tiger-hair type with with longish fibers between smooth, flexible yet rigid cardboard on the shroud let it cure and maybe it will allow some fibers to show to mimic the factory molded look, and then just color match with mist coats of flat grey to try and blend the color. whatcha think bout that idea?

Have not been in the garage in a couple of weeks so did a little today. My NOS rockers arrived, unfortunately I already had spot welded my repops on but figure this truck is worth the little extra work to change them again. Also finally Dynomatted my roof panel.

Does the Dynomat act as a sound deadener? Looks like it laid out nice and flat.

Yeah, sound deadener and insulator, great stuff to work with, well worth the money.

hey, I saw a post where a guy used the foil backed insulation from a company that sales it in home depot, and uses it for thermo protection for duct work. it does have a thickish layer membrame for the adhesive. my question, to save $$$ do you think this will give the same effectas dynomat or just be a waste of ma money. anyone that knows can chime in.... thks

Good to see you back at it! Between being sick and traveling for the holidays neither one of us has done much. Sounds like the NOS rockers will be the way to go, especially on such a nice ground up build.

Most of the hardware store stuff is ashphalt based and will smell like it when hot

That's going to be really nice. The more you post about rusted roofs and mice nests ,it makes me want to drill out mine and clean it up then deaden it.

Thats gonna be so cool. I have to laugh at the rust, feel for those east coast guys. We throw better stuff away, on the flip side, thinking of doing a killer custom after my short wide is done.

The roof skin looks real solid. No rust around the edges where you drilled out?
I have to ask did you use a regular drill bit to get at the spot welds or a spot weld drill tool?

I have patina and paint on my truck, woohoo, only 125 holes to plug weld, boy does it sound solid though.
