I'm currently wrapping up a mild restoration on a 1980 BJ40 Land Cruiser... As soon as it leaves the shop, I'll be back in action!

Way too cool! We used to have a 73 or 74 FJ40. I remember as a little kid using the huge bumper on the front and ramming down all the small sapplings in the back yard with my dad driving. What an awesome vehicle that was. I always have had a spot in my heart for them since them. What does it typically cost to have one imported? If you don't feel like talking prices here could you PM me?

Thanks,
Dylan

1954 Monster 4X4 Shop Truck "Crush"

A hard left turn has just been made for project "Crash"....

I have completely changed my mind for the build on this truck...

A friend of mine made a comment the other day about the number of lifted trucks I currently own: 8" lifted 87' Crew cab Short bed, 8" lifted 88' K5 blazer, 8"-10" lifted Land Cruiser, 6" lifted 55' GMC.. He then went on to make a valid observation about project "Crash"... "Why have a lifted shop truck," he said?

After giving a little thought to the question I thought to myself, well it will look cool... DA!

He went on to explain the difficulting in loading a truck that sits 4 - 5 feet off the ground, which for some reason I hadn't considered.

So I have desided to take "Crash" to the ground...

I just purchased a 1982 2wd Crew Cab Dually with a 4 speed manual, and 454 engine.

I will be using this chassis and drive train for project crash... The photo below shows a basic idea as to where I am taking "Crash"...

New Plan:
1. Powder coated wheels with chrome spike lugs and center caps
2. Vintage style flat bed, or a stretched out "Era matching" step side bed
3. Air ride
4. New interior (No paint, just fabric, and a Line X floor)
5. Powder coated bumper(s)
6. Leave body untouched and unpainted
7. New Glass, and weather stripping
8. Some kind of cool side view mirrors
9. Visor
10. *****in' Stereo
11. Some cool NON-Smog Bolt ons for the 454!
12. Load exhaust!

Tell me what you think of this new plan, and any additional thoughts you may have...

I think either way you go it would be cool. I've always liked the old styled low flatbed tow trucks though.

Re: 1954 Monster 4X4 Shop Truck "Crush"

I've included a few update photos...

RIP old idea
Long live the new!

My initial plans of creating a moster shop truck have died. After considering the idea of loading heavy loads onto a shoulders height flat bed just didn't make a great deal of sense....

The new project crash includes a slammed vintage style flat bed very similar to my sketch.

The old chassis is going to the scrap yard tomorrow while a 1982 Chevy crew cab dually chassis becomes the new home for this beast.

For now the truck will be running a 454 big block mated to a 4 speed manual. Should I keep this truck for the long haul I will be dropping the big block for a 12 or 24 valve cummins and either a NV4500 or G56 6 speed (Either way a manual trans).

The 82' crew cab is listed in the classified section under 73-87 parts board:
t=433290http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=433290

Stay tuned!

Hmmm with all the ups and downs, I'd do something really rare and unusual. Stock height.

Take it low, flat bed, air drop in the rear?
Then you can haul those other rides!

Oh by the way... I was on a bit of a stand still until I sold the crew cab (Cab) and front clip... This weekend it should finally be at of here, and I can continue moving forward.

I just sent out the wheels to the sand blaster and powder coater.

Radiator came in about a week ago... Will post photos soon..
