Re: 1955 big back window named RUSTY cummins to be......

yea the 6.0 isn't a cummins and i don't expect it to be. but it already has a new turbo head studs EGR upgrade all the things that make the 6.0 suck so i think it will be fine.
bonus is how tightly packaged the power stroke motors are made the swap a lot simpler due to the stubbiness of the f350 from packaging

Just put a SCT on it with a good tune and it'll be right there with a cummins. Just don't push it too hard.

And yeah, they pack them in there tight for sure.

Re: 1955 big back window named RUSTY cummins to be......

to explain how i joined the f350 firewall and floor to the chevy i cut the rockers off the F350 floor until it matched the inside dimensions of the chevy from step to step i then plated the ford floor ends with 1/4 plate and welded that to the steps. then cut the excess off the top of the steps to fit the contour of the ford floorboards and welded it up. the back of the floor from the ford was about 9 inches too long to i cut it off and boxed it into the back of the chevy cab. the rear cab mount is from the chevy and the front and core support are from the ford.

Re: 1955 big back window named RUSTY cummins to be......

then i decided to tackle the cowl area which i have been avoiding.

Name: IMG_6314.jpg
Views: 223
Size: 42.2 KB

this is what i had to fill

Name: IMG_6307.jpg
Views: 228
Size: 47.7 KB

made a template and decided to cut it a little shorter and pull up the bottom of the ford cowl when i welded it to gather to make a little more room in the engine bay for future upgrades or service.

Name: IMG_6305.jpg
Views: 221
Size: 45.8 KB

to make the ford cowl actually be functional and all the HVAC features work like they were intended to i cut the bottom of the chevys cowl out so that the air will flow thru the vent and down and out the side just like its supposed to. once its all sealed i will weld the back plate on in the cab and it will be 100% functional.

Very nice work on it! I'm betting this thing is a blast to drive. I bet you can't shift it fast enough? Great work on the body swap and the body work looks nice too. That's so cool you are letting your son get in on it too!

Re: 1955 big back window named RUSTY cummins to be......

Thanks guys!

It is great finally to have it complete enough to drive. All the modern stuff in it makes it not seem like a 1950s truck. Still planning for the duramax or cummins swap in its future. On to the 68 now.

Getting a little more finished up to get this thing 100%
here are some better photos

The front has fox coil-overs that are too stiff they will need different springs for sure. The tires are some 35 inch BFG's
i had laying around and a set of weld on beadlocks that i never used from a different project.

The tail lights are some reproduction ones for a Ford of some kind they were cheap and look nice.
Only downside are the lenses are actual glass so we will see how thy hold up.

I do have the steps and plan on putting them on but i
do need to strip them down and repair some rust on them

Gas tank is a 40 Gallon one from a 80s blazer and i modified
the filler to go under the bed wood which is the next step for the
rear

You can see how i made a panel to go over the pedals that are shifted over
it turned out well. the carpet kit is for a 2005 F350 reg cab. I do still need to
make some mouldings for where the carpet stops.

the shifter is a flash bang body i got on one of my deployments.
It is "Inert"

I wire wheeled the door panels the dash and the filler panels and cleared them i like the look. fits the primer finish

Re: 1955 big back window named RUSTY cummins to be......

One of the downsides of running the drivetrain is the fact that 2005 and up power strokes Gauge cluster are
part of the vehicles computer system. without the stock gauges the truck
goes into limp-home mode and wont go over 50MPH it also has the voltage regulator in it.
I like how it looks and i kept most of the V. the modern gauges are easy to
as well

I made a console also for the Head unit that came in to truck it has the stock bluetooth so I can use my phone.

Name: inter.jpg

the turn signal switch will be removed and the column cleaned up as well

I still have a page worth of things i need to finish on this guy.
the interior is getting buttoned up. some finish welding on a few under
carriage parts, rebuild the door windows and seals, The wood for the bed and other things.
the truck is a blast so far and it feels good to share a register insured
driving truck after so many years and so many change. sorry if this was not
the version you thought it was going to be but i love it.

6Dof,

thanks honestly im glad it turned-out how it did since i had to use it.

Took it for a couple our drives and besides the bead-locks making it shake it runs good. now to daily drive it.

me and my son have started tearing into the 68.

Nice work! That shifter handle is cool too. If it is straight piped, I guarantee people are looking around for the super duty.
