Lossen the mounts and towers, gives a little wiggle room. For really stubborn ones I've ground a little off the long bolts to make a slight bevel.

I defiantly will if I can figure out how! Today I finished running the rest of the hoses, got the grill and bumper bolted on and aligned and all the little small pieces that were left like the headlight bezels, coolant, air cleaner and heat riser. I did notice that my inner grill has a broken tab so Im going to Try to find a nice original inner grill to replace it. My dad is at work until Sunday morning so I won't get a chance to fire it till then.

Re: A New teenage member!

Well today was the day, I finally fired off the truck!! Yesterday was a day of frustration as we could not get the truck to fire. It was turning over, we had spark and fuel but it wouldn't fire. We also could not get the distributed to fall on TDC. After messing with it for over 3 hours my dad and I gave up and called it a night. Today we picked up a new set of points and started to work. We changed the points and managed to get the distributer in and when we went to fire it up we had the same problem. So we went to check the plug wires and I had them off by 2 cylinders. After fixing that we went to start it and it fired right up!! Great oil pressure, temp and sound. It sounds awesome!!!! 315 HP and 300 ft lbs of torque. It is a completely different truxm now. I still have to blast the hood hungers and fit the hood but I plan on driving it to school this coming week. All the hard work and $ has paid off and it feels great!!

Re: A New teenage member!

I have been driving the truck everyday to school since I finished up the engine. Has lots of power and drives great. Only problem I am having is when I accelerate from a stop the engine almost cuts out a little bit. If I slowly exelerate it is not as noticeable, but if I put my foot down a little bit from a stop it almost dies, then after a little bobble it accelerates as it should. Any ideas on what it could be?

Re: A New teenage member!

Thanks guys, I think it is the timing also. The carb is a clean and not jammed or anything but I have not timed it since I first fired it up and tuned it for the first time. I have almost put 500 miles in it and my plan was to check timing at 500 so I guess will just do it this weekend!

Re: A New teenage member!

Updates: Had issues with the truck on hot starts so with a new pentronix unit to replace the points which did didn't help so that came out and a new MSD HEI distributed went in with new MSD wires and regaped plugs. This really helped and now the truck is the running better than ever and I can really feel how much more spark the truck has. Now he fun part, I picked up some NOS lower bed trim, NOS cargo light lense and NOS tailight bezels so I'm exited to get that in the truck. I also installed NOS upper bed trim I picked up on Craigslist for $50 for both pieces. Hopefully next I can find a sub to install under the seat. Plan is to pull the floor mat and install either a rapor liner or may sound deadener that won't make the original floor mat lay funny and to put the sub under the seat along with the amp and bass control dial.

Re: A New teenage member!

Been tinkering on the truck off and on for the past few months. Picked up an original valve cover at the Portland Swap Meet from a fellow member to replace my dented one and also got a new high quality set of valve cover gaskets to replace the cork ones I put on when we put the engine back together. I have a small oil leak and I am pretty sure that the new gaskets should fix it. Also looking at putting a shallow sub or two under the seat to give the truck a little better sound. I currently have a dual kenwood underdash speaker along with pioneer kick panels speakers which sound awesome but just don't have quite enough thump. Any suggestions on good shallow subs would be greatly appreciated!!
