From what I can see the top piece was added because of the main crossmember itself where the upper a-frame mounts is taller than the main rail that was added. The added top rail took up the room needed to back up the upper a frame mount and will help in keeping the a-frame mounting points stronger and help with deflection in that area.

With all these hand built frames on here and all the great work alot of these members are capable of its a wonder more of these frames arent being built.
Nice work guys, others are watching like myself and can appreciate nice fab work and welding skills.

I see many times a project is shown and possibly a question is asked to why a certain piece is welded like it was, gussetted like this or that or basically asking about weld quality or more bracing and so on. I am proud that no one attempts to really thrash on a persons work. Constructive criticism is what I keep seeing if someone spots something out of the ordinary or welds not up to par,and others try to help resolve the issue in question.

LOL, I don't even fit into the "constructive criticism" category I can't criticize anyone for anything because I have jack schitt in fab and welding skills. I've probably lit up my welder three or four times, tops. I'm afraid if I fire it up any more, I'll either destroy what I'm working on, or get so addicted that I can't stop.

I was just genuinely curious. Everything I know about fabbing anything up, I pretty much learned from asking questions in threads like this (oh yeah, and watching guys like Lou fab stuff up on TV). I don't know where people go to learn this kind of stuff - other than maybe a school like WyoTech, but ... when you work 60hrs a week to fund your projects, there's no time!

Re: For your viewing pleasure

It is SUCH an honor to have you here Lou!! I wish I could have caught sooo many more of your shows! I’m finally getting “into” or excited about metal and fabrication and have been in awe of the incredible work that I’ve been seeing on this board. I’ve already felt so little, and now you show up! Great to have ya and I hope you’re in this for the long haul and stay with the family!

Oh, btw, I have a 12 year old that’s also a fan of yours and she’ll definitely want a shout out to ya from her too!

I’m subscribing to this so I don’t miss anymore updates!

Re: For your viewing pleasure

Welcome Lou, it is good to see you aboard.
It's funny how the "suits" go looking for guys like Lou (not only skills but personality too) but then they want to hold them back?

Most of those shows are nothing but commercials for the suppliers. They are just going to the next level by showing people how to use their products. The more fabrication their is, the less product is shown. Muscle Car was my favorite from the beginning because it seems to be less like that. I understand the reasoning behind telling viewers where they can get the products that are being used, but it seems like the products drive the shows. I know that it is a balancing act, you need the sponsors to even have a show, but it doesn't have to look so much like an infomercial...does it?
Bullydog anyone?.....Trucks! wore me out with that one.
Then you have the opposite, getting too far beyond the average guy, so they feel overwhelmed/left behind then they get bored. Too technical (while appealing to guys like us) is not as commercially viable. Fabricating is great, but once you get beyond tools like welders, grinders, etc. there isn't much to "sell". Selling is what keeps any show on the air.

I knew that something was up when they brought in the new guy and started rehashing the old projects. I was sad to see Jared go and it will be worse to see Lou leave....but I sure was glad to see that body-builder guy leave Trucks.
As far as Jesse, I figured that her medical issues would be the end of her on that show. I was actually surprised to see her come back.

It's great to know we'll still be able to watch some of your work here on the site & as always it's top notch..joe

Holy crap its Lou sweet huge fan of the show (specifically your work). Sad to see you go. I really enjoyed that show. I don't know, how it will be the same. Seems like almost everyone is leaving the Powerblock. Only Joe and Ian will be around that is nuts the rest of the guys that started all of those shows will be gone. Your stuff was one of the main reasons I watched. I don't know If I will watch after Jessi leaves.

I planned on posting these the other day but I spaced it in the last couple of pictures. I made that tool from some pointers form toe in toe out gauge and a piece of conduit. To measure the wheel base by myself. I plan on installing the engine in the morning.
