Re: 49' Patina bagged in PA

thanks shannon, where you been hibernating? I'm debating on few things right now such as redrilling rear fender holes to move the bed up an inch or so. Got electric hooked up so now I just gotta run some wire. Ordering a new welder very soon. So progress should speed up. Hoping to finish engine Jan/Feb and drop it in and fire it up.

Re: 49' Patina bagged in PA

12-15 Not much to report other than this snow blows, or wish I had a snow blower. Got slammed with a bunch of snow again. So I didn't get much done today as I had to leave before I got stranded in a 2x4 s10.
On a good note, got my electric hooked up. Started running wire for my new welder I finally got too. So since I been taking some mad hits to the wallet this month, I went with an Eastwood 175mig deal with free shipping, couldn't beat the deal and don't think there is a better deal out there. Read some good reviews so we'll see what it does soon. Tried finding a used hobart or lincoln on CL and I just kept missing the deals. I should have two full days to work over xmas, so I gotta get welder hooked up, still need gas for it. I'm also trying to build a work bench and some shelves, since I never really did any of that yet, just jumped into the truck. Now I need some peace of mind and regroup. Still hoping to have body fully mounted/moched up for good soon.

Re: 49' Patina bagged in PA

99 to Life, yes, I was under the radar for a while. I have been working on the box truck like mad. I had a bunch of figuring on it and really nothing to post. I too have the ****s of the snow. I is a real pain to work outside in it and it is too big to fit in my little garage anyway, plus the 51 pickup is still in there. Glad you got a new/bigger welder and you are getting ready for the Christmas holiday. I am off between Christmas and the New year, but I will still be working. Truck looks great all mocked up.

Re: 49' Patina bagged in PA

shannon, thanks man. Can't wait to get over this cold weather and into spring. Got a lot of things I gotta do this year, lotta stresses. Getting this truck done would be very uplifting.

Sarge, thanks. It wasn't the best decision because of the almost 60 hours into it, but its a good show piece to show people what can be fixed if you just put the time and effort into it. I personally have no time to spare, get 4-6 hours a week to work on parts or engine stuff and then one day on the weekend to work on the actual truck. Once I button up my engine (money is hanging me up on that) then I'm back to body parts for a 52' I'm doing. Can't wait to post that thread because of the metal work, but it just needs more content and its just far away from that. Big part of me wishes I would have gotten that dash off you bf I dove into this one!!!

Re: 49' Patina bagged in PA

daverod, well I worked on the dash and engine in spurts over 2013. Just got the body off and onto the dime frame the last two months, last two weeks I couldn't even work on the truck itself. Been busy with a fludding and damp garage and just started a work bench finally. Hooking up welder tomorrow and possibly making a home made shop press 1st. Then back to the 49'. Should be finishing up body mounts and hopefully onto floor soon. This truck is a struggle too, time and money holding it back, got a fam now and old and new debt!! It should be done for 2014 no doubt.

Re: 49' Patina bagged in PA

12-27 Well I haven't been able to work on the truck for a couple weeks. been working on garage again, started my work bench and got my welder wired up. Need my cart that is on back order and need to wire up and extension cord for it. But am able to weld a few areas, such as the bed I was working on. Like my last build, I made bed mounts before I worked on front of truck. Dunno why but just seems to be my thing. So I got the bed leveled front to back, side to side (though I might put a slight rake to the back now) anyway, for the front of the bed I made this mount so you can just run some bolts into this mount. I just have the mount tacked in as of right now.

For the rear, there is whats called a rear cross sill that bolts your bedside together. it has tabs on each end that are nice for mounting and supporting the bed in the back. So I just tacked some angle to my frame, sent a 5" bolt all the way down the tab. good thing is, you can still move bed forward or back if you wanted cause the tab on the cross sill is just a long bolt hole so to speak. To add some rake to the bed, I can put some washers under the angle, should push the rear of bed down half inch or however much I add. I kinda like a tail dragger look, just a little. Even when slammed, the rear of the fender sits a tad too high for my liking.

These mounts just hold the bed body in place, I'll be adding some more braces and also a track system that the bed wood will sit on. The bed wood will slide off in one piece and rest on a track that is mounted to the frame, so no weight will be put on the actual bed body.

Hoping to get engine and trans moch up in there tomorrow. Also brace up the cab a bit more and start my cab mounts. Then next weekend work on getting front fenders with inners braced up, maybe start rad support and or get working on cab floors and trans tunnel. Once I know my body is absolutely final, front to back side to side and height, I'll do running board brackets. Oh and gonna test fit driveshaft too. Very long list and PIA trying to align and level everything by yourself. Again, don't mind this rusty frame, it is all gonna get blasted and painted when I'm done with moch up.

Re: 49' Patina bagged in PA

12-28 Been trying to take advantage of some extra work days on the truck, but just isn't panning out as much as I'd hoped. Was gunhoe on getting alot done on the truck saturday, but several reasons to head up to erie (about 45min from me) lead me astray. I did manage to get my impact drill which is so nice to have, also stopped by my buddy Ryan's to finally peep his 54' panel and another 54' he's working on for a friend. Unfortunately he is moving out to cali in a couple weeks. (I have hardly any car pals as it is). He hooked me up with a really cool antique rivet/hole punch machine, needs some work. Also some rear fenders.

I did start the day tearing out my seat, gas tank and seat track. I was going to cut the riser out and give it to him, since the 54' truck he is working on needs all new floor and riser. but he said he no longer needed it.

So you can see the floor work and kick panel work I got lined up. I cut some floor out for trans, have it in there (no pic). going to moch up engine trans and driveshaft next. Might move my whole body back 1". Hoping to have some better pics by this coming weekend. check out the 54' panel, he just finished up some custom stainless headers.

Re: 49' Patina bagged in PA

Hey fellas the inspiration is beyond there, I just have a million other things getting in my way. I normally get a full sat to work on it, thats the schedule I been keeping, until life tosses an anchor at when you don't need it to.

Floor should be started soon, need to establish my driveline height so I can make my trans tunnel and drive shaft tunnel if any. Was hoping to get a bead roller for the panels, but what do you know.... that anchor called money is in my way. In due time.

That always seems to be the case 99. When you have the time, you don't have the money and vise-versa.

Re: 49' Patina bagged in PA

sarge, of course its the way the cookie always crumbles. I still have to pay off my welder and I already want a bead roller, shrinker stretcher, drill press, chopsaw, bandsaw and next year need a new compressor and want a plasma. I've gotten quite a few projects when I should have been putting that money into tools. BUT, the deals are there for only so long so you gotta pop on em. Other problem I have is I have two locations, so I need two of most tools and or gotta pack them up for the haul. I'll def hit you up when I'm back in pittsburgh. I'm getting some product ready for the Pittsburgh autorama so I'm balls to the wall for that too.

Re: 49' Patina bagged in PA

1-4 Nothing much to look at, but I did manage to tear out the seat riser, tried to save as much of it as I could. Might make someones day that needs it, or atleast its a part in my collection that isn't available in aftermarket.

My goal was to get cab mounted, but its just too weak to do so. So I'm going to support floor and kick panels, basically do all new inside of cab practically. Then I'll make my mounts and then get the driveline moched up. Then onto front sheetmetal and radiator.
I noticed my cab moved left to right so it took me a bit to get it back to were it need to be so I can try and keep my driveshaft notch in line. I gotta get s10 xmember out so I can get trans to sit where it needs also.

Luckily I can reference my 51' on alot of things, esp the center consol/trans tunnel. Since I don't have the trans and engine moched up to know how high to make my consol, I just measured off my 51'. The seat should sit above all my tunneling. I really like having a square trans tunnel because I set stuff on it, make some cup holders and other stuff. I gotta get some more tubing and I should prolly have it all framed up by next weekend. Then start on the kickpanels, pass side is the worst. Got to do that bf I can mount front clip and get that all in place.

Here is a pic of my 51' you can see trans placement, and a little bit of the consol. I got some different ideas for the 49' though.

Looking good man. Any progress is progress. I Also like that interior shot. I plan on using a Mexican blanket for a seat cover as well. Is yours hog ringed on or just laying in place. Sorry if you have already explained in somewhere else that I missed.
