Re: Where's the 3/4 ton love?
I bought one for parts a few months ago, it had a detroit no-spin rear diff in it. I passed it on. There is that brokeback look too.

Here's what mine looks like now that I really started working on it. Just finished rebuilding the Hydra-matic trans and got it back in on Friday.

Re: Where's the 3/4 ton love?
My 66- finally running again- 1 coil cut in front, removed all but the longest 5 leaves in the rear. 250, Rochester b carb, sm425, Flowtech headers, 2ft cherry bombs. Sounds great, handles great- going to look at a Holmes wrecker bed tomorrow, so I may be restoring the rear suspension(including the 1 ton helper coils) and picking up dual wheels for the rear. Looking to do a "Rat Wrecker", a bit like the one seen in pics on the site a while ago. Plus, I'll have a way to move all of my other trucks around.

Re: Where's the 3/4 ton love?
I agree, it has that no nonsense look. Modern vehicles just don't have this look. Speaking of wheels, you must have originals because modern 8 lug wheels ( 1969 and newer ) don't accept period 3/4 ton hubcaps. They appear to be the 1 piece solid 17.5" (clip type) wheels that use tubleless tires.

Re: Where's the 3/4 ton love?
I'm trying to find some factory take offs for it. These things are like pizza cutters, I get stuck in the smallest amount of mud. I love the look but there just not that functional. I've not even begun to try to find tires in this size but I'd imagine it's slim pickins.

Re: Where's the 3/4 ton love?
Ive been looking for these "pie crust" edge kind of tires. Bias ply...not easy to find. I am going to have to go 70's eight lug i guess.

Re: Where's the 3/4 ton love?
I ran that tire on my 66 jeep pickup and my old scout. They were period correct and as long as you keep the pressure right they worked great. Didn't last too long though, very soft compound rubber. Great looking tire.

Re: Where's the 3/4 ton love?
17.5 one piece wheels with tubeless tires like these were standard equipment on 60-66 3/4tons ( shown with 61 thru 63 hubcap). 8-17.5 tires can be ordered if your into authenticity.

Re: Where's the 3/4 ton love?
A couple of rear end/wheel questions between the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks.
I have a '64 1 ton C30 with flatbed, dual rear wheels. From the pictures here of the rear ends, it appears the 3/4 ton trucks have a similar rear axle, floating axles, same-same?? Does the 3/4 ton use a split rim, as my 1 ton does, same-same?? I'd really like to find a nice 5 speed with granny low, and 2 speed rear end for my flatbed. |
